It's so funny how the launches of any of the Thunderbird machines are clearly padding but I still never tire of watching them. Even as an adult, I still experience the same thrill of my childhood, every time I watch the Thunderbird 2 launch sequence.
Took me years to notice but on the TV show two little silver metal rods pop up to hold TB2 in place. The shot is cut it seems, to allow these to be moved into position. They stop it from sliding back. Look carefully and you'll see these rods between the pod and the engines. When it lifts off they are more visible.
@@Calvertfilm I must of seen that sequence countless times and never noticed those rods until now. Just watched the launch sequence and they are plain to see when you know, possibly something the model maker could of added if he had spotted them. Even so it is a fantastic model I would love to see in real one day.
That truly is a wonderful and marvellous animated model of my favourite TV show growing up. Truth be told, I still watch selected Eps and scenes now - and I am +50!!
Totally Agree! I still love a TB episode. the best imho of all the Anderson marionation shows. I am also a big fan of his UFO Tv show as well and only managed to watch all the episodes as an adult when they were released on DVD. You are never too old for high stakes adventure!
Watching this, I'm just wondering why Thunderbird 2 needed a runway and take off ramp??... lol.... But fantastic model and fantastic memories..... well done all involved. You are FAB. 👍
Here an ideas why 💡why not build a scale model of Thunderbird 1 in the hangar under the pool and ready for launch just like in the original Thunderbirds series beause it would be very interesting and exciting.
I think it was to emphasise that TB2 was a great lumbering hulk of a transporter. ..and they were guilty of using the take off as a filler, almost every episode we watch TB2 and others taking off. but such fun with the music!
Lol true - well they could have had TB1 under the pool ready too, and TB2 not need so far to move along to the ramp. But it adds to the drama of it all of course and makes for great TV. Gerry Anderson was a genius.
I'm sure all the engineers would have told/reminded Jeff Tracy that it would have been safer and more energy efficient to whisk the pilots out to the prepped vehicles at their own launch pads, but no firm ever saw the complete set of plans.
"Brains, we have to repair the bloody jet blast door again!" Anyone ever notice they have the blast door opening backwards?! Even the new show gets it wrong (worse!). Look at any aircraft carrier to see how it should work. Tracy Island would need to repair stuff in there every time TB2 blasted off! lol This always bothered me when I was a kid.
Never understood why Thunderbird 2 had to start so complicated from home base, while landing and take-off during operational deployment on site could be done vertically.
It is this type of observation that as an adult I look back in and wonder why younger me didn’t ask questions like this… …as an adult I rationalise that VTOL uses far too much fuel and hence it takes a more gentle assent, but we all know TB2 wings and belly are hardly aerodynamic, but I still love this glorious work horse!
How does this all work?! I'm a huge Thunderbirds fan (1960s & 2015 (I prfer the 2015 Thunderbirds Are Go (and I'm only 17 & I'm a boy!))) Edit: Thunderbird 2 is also my favorite Thunderbird!!!
Thanks and that’s what happens if you just use a spell check! hanger vs hangar. description corrected. I can’t correct the spellking error within the video. next time!
You are right! Ha! I missed that one. As the words are part of the video it shall remain so. I am sure this comment of yours will be the most liked as other people notice and see that you got there first. Hope you enjoyed the video regardless.

Not just me then! 👍
Being 65 years old this brings back great memory's and thunderbird 2 was my favourite, great video,
Glad you enjoyed it!The team that build this deserve all the coverage I can give them.
Great stuff (I forgive the slip-back on the ramp).
From the greatest 'children's' programme in the history of the world.
yes, there is The most Slight slip in the clutch brake unit.
I am just amazed they didn’t use any wires / pulleys!

"Er Virgil...never mind...in the time it took to open the hangar doors, TB1 already completed the rescue! Stand down."

I'm 66 still love it. Fond memories

Same as actual STOL aircraft (like Harrier), easier liftoff, greater load and save fuel .
Beautiful model! Well done.
Thunderbirds are cool and it’s a great effort! I hope the people needing rescue aren’t in a hurry as the hangar door takes so long to open. 😂
It is painfully slow and TB2 is no race horse but love the heavy lifter all the same.
If you added a little $10 mist fogger in the hanger area that would have completely sold the miniature. The devil is always in the detail
If only it flew as well, still an absolutely brilliant model as it is !
Was waiting just for some jet blast

Thunderbird 2 is my favorite Thunderbird machine!😀
TB2 is also my favorite

Just FAB!! Fantastic
Unbelievable! I've soiled my kecks!
Oh no!
😂
As a kid I never understood why all the doors opened so slowly when they were always rushed for time.

Poetic liscence!
Apparently Lew Grade extended the show from 30 to 60 mins so they had to pad things out. To me, it made it more realistic and grand.

It is a very advanced computer sequenced controlled RF model kit. I list the model makers name and details in the comments.
Thunderbird 2
Ready for liftoff
Thunderbird 2. Go
Thunderbird 2. F - A - B
I wonder how to make a ramp go up and down ? How does it work i cant find it anywhere
I managed to capture all the control switching but could not see the motors / solenoids.
Great video. Pity about the spelling errors: coming and hangar.
