    Another outstanding interview! The part about the JASDF was fascinating, I hadn’t realized they didn’t have AAR capability.
    Thank you Marco and Steve, I’ve really enjoyed (and learned from) this series. Looking forward to part 4.

    Holy cow. The entire interview is great but those parts on Japan’s default defensive posture completely denying them the ability to air refuel, and all the talk on war games, electronic warfare tactics with China was fascinating - since I just read somewhere that China is currently “wearing out” Japan’s Eagles and pilots thru daily incursions into uncomfortably close airspace.

    What is the “heat sensor on the wingtip” of the drone he mentions?

      What he is probably referring to is a heat source (flare) that gives the drone an IR footprint more closely aligned with a full-sized fighter.
