- This is the same version of POKÉMON LIVE! that is posted on my channel in 7 parts. This version is a higher quality video upload. I also edited out the intermission. It has credits at the end with the cast list. POKÉMON LIVE! was a multi-million dollar musical stage show featuring the adventures of Ash, Brock, Misty, Pikachu, Giovanni, Team Rocket and the mechanical Pokemon MechaMew2. It premiered on Broadway at Radio City Music Hall in September of 2000 and then toured the United States and Canada. I was the Production Stage Manager on the show. The video is a full stage shot with no close-ups, but the lighting is good and the quality of the video makes it easy to follow the action of the musical. The show was directed by Luis Perez of Broadway renown and produced by 4Kids executive producer Norman J. Grossfeld. The show while an artistic success, was not a financial success. To the people down in the comments complaining about the quality of this recording you don't get it. First let me tell you something about recorded theater. Bootleg recordings of theater can be comparable to the movie bootlegs recording a screen, you get an absolutely great bootleg if the camera quality is ok and the camera doesn't jerk a lot. Beggars really can't be choosers so usually you either suck it up and watch unless you're lucky and you get a chance to see a tour of the show or actually go to Broadway or West End to see you're shows. BUT THIS RIGHT HERE is the pinnacle of bootleg recordings, this here is the absolute BEST recording of a theater production you can possibly get without it being official. This here is the 4K 1080HD highest resolution possible of a recording of its kind and as a lover of theater whose only option is to wait for the tours to get to him this right here is amazing. So to the people complaining all I can say is again you don't get it, don't get the struggle I have to go too. Chris if there's anything you'd like to add go for it :)

I do wish it was better, but I did the best I could with a decades old over-the-shoulder camcorder feeding into a mono-TV/VCR two-headed combo to record it on. Thank you again for the comments.
I have a bunch of Broadway bootleg audio tapes which I've collected over the past few years.
I attend a lot of the special Broadway shows adapted for autistic audiences (see tdf (dot) org (slash) autism for information and tickets). The show itself is kept the same but there are changes to the sound and lighting so it's not as upsetting to those with sensory issues, and there is a relaxed attitude towards noise and movement in the audience.
I would love it if somebody could video these shows for me; I like rewatching certain moments of specific performances over and over again (#ActuallyAutistic). I'm not sure what type of camera would work best, but I know it would have to be an inconspicuous one which is capable of recording for at least 3 hours, both battery and memory-wise. The main issue is that the house lights don't go all the way down. But if anyone here is good at bootlegging, please try and film these shows!

TDF usually does 4 shows a year, 2 of them being annual performances of The Lion King (end of September) and Aladdin (beginning of March). The other 2 shows for this season are Phantom and Kinky Boots. I'm not sure what will be next season but I'm guessing Charlie & the Chocolate Factory. If they do Hamilton I would go crazy! The tickets usually sell out within days, sometimes even hours after going onsale, so I'd recommend signing up for info (tdf (dot) org (slash) autism) No really, if they do Hamilton, somebody's gotta film it! If you wouldn't be able to attend these yourself could you try asking a friend to film the shows? It should be a bit easier to find hidden cameras that are more affordable these days.
Regarding the Blue's Clues Live shows ("The Most Spectacular Place" and "Blue's Birthday Party"), I tweeted to the person who created the shows and she said that she loved the idea of a revival and autism-friendly performances but someone would have to speak with Nickelodeon about it. And considering the kind of shows that are green-lighted on Nickelodeon these days (Plankton from Spongebob attempting suicide, twerking ducks, and constant fart jokes), I'm afraid it will require a lot of persuasion. I've heard that back in 2008 Ben Fankhauser (Davey in Newsies) played the role of Steve at a community theatre production in Cleveland, so having him reprise the role at a venue like Radio City should definatley boost ticket sales.
Oh, and speaking of revivals, Pokémon Live would probably still be successful with a revival. Also I'd like to come up with a musical based on my favorite video game, THE DOG Island, and suggest ideas for a new Blue's Clues Live show, Blue's Room Live! The Most Spectacular Playdate (although I guess there could be stage productions based on Blue's Big Musical Movie and Meet Blue's Baby Brother as well?)

Well im sorry to say this but,
Pokemon live clips and recordings got lost in some files of the creator or something so they cant create a dvd version

I think they did plan that back in the day, but it never happened (probably because of the negative reception it got from critics), and it probably won't happen unless they find the footage and get the okay of the actors who were in this (which would be impossible seeing as how the person who played James in this was embarrassed by this).
I feel like this is like a setup for a punchline that never comes
The entire show is both the setup and punchline. And the fact that you can see all the actors dying on the inside as this drags on.
We cannot say that we need a new reboot of this.

Usually prefessionally recorded performances cut out anything the audience says.
There’s no microphone directed at the audience, you can only hear the audience being picked up from microphones based on the stage. That’s why you can’t hear the audience well.

I remember watching this show live in person in New York! The critics may not like it, but I enjoyed watching it even though it wasn't cannon and was not up to the same season as the anime (it was either when it took place at the Orange Islands or Johto Region, the Gold/Silver/Crystal generation). I vaguely remembered what happened, but I started to recall certain parts of the show more as I watched it. Thanks for putting it up even though it's not the official recording that was intended to be released on DVD!

I FOUND A THING! On the Pokémon Insider tape, The guy who played Brock in this claimed that Pokémon Live would be coming to home video in the near future. According to Bulbapedia, the Pokémon website claimed the same thing at the time. So this begs the question. Why did they claim this on a website and commercially available video but never release it? Does this mean they had plans for it? This must mean they have some tapes SOMEWHERE. Do they have boxes of printed videos that were never distributed? Why didn't they relalese the video? SO MANY QUESTIONS!!!!
Hi. Yes, this was planned to be released on home video. I spoke to the executive producer Norman J. Grossfeld recently. He told me the story of the tapes. He had plans to edit to raw multi-camera HD video footage that was shot in Chicago, IL into a final version. He never got around to doing it. He left 4Kids and then 4Kids went bankrupt. The tapes, that had been cozily stored at the 4Kids studio at West 23rd St in New York City for many years were transferred to POKÉMON USA in Bellevue, WA and are in archive now never to see the light of day again. They have never been edited into a final version and most likely they never will.
The guy who played Brock, Dennis Kenney, didn't know all of this. He only knew what we were told in Chicago when the show closed. Bulbapadia was going off of old information as well. Believe me, 4Kids had every intention of releasing this show on home video, Norman J. Grossfeld just never got around to editing it into a final version and as time went on the project became less and less important to him until finally there was no market for it. There is not a market for it today. They could not justify spending the money to edit the videos to a final version to sell to a few thousand fans. It just wouldn't make good business sense. And, unfortunately they are not going to let me have the tapes so I can get someone I know to edit it into a final version. They don't want to let go of the property. Catch 22. :(

I actually saw this when the show came to the Worcester Centrum (I believe it's the DCU Center now) in Worcester, Massachusetts in late 2000. My mom had just passed away but my awesome Dad agreed to drive the hour or so trip so that I could attend (bless his heart for sitting through this lol).
Being a freshman in high school, I was one of the older "kids" there, but I didn't care. I had an absolute blast.
Team Rocket were my favorites so I was thrilled whenever they were on stage. Years later when I found out that the great Andrew Rannells was the one who portrayed James I fangirled like crazy. To think I got to see him before he made it big!
It kills my heart, though, that Andrew talks so much smack about this production, 4Kids, and the character he played. James was always a queer icon to me and to THIS day he is easily the best character to come out of that show.
It's too bad that Andrew doesn't seem to understand that many of us LOVED the character for being so camp and flamboyant. There were not characters like him on kid's shows, or really ANY shows around this time. And though James is a "bad guy" he consistently is cited as one of the best, most wholesome characters on the show. People that grew up with the show for the last 20 years will often point to James as being the "heart" of not only Team Rocket but the Pokemon franchise in general.
James has the biggest heart, provides the biggest laughs, and is all-around a joy to behold whenever he is on screen.
Anyway, sorry for my ramble but thanks so much for the upload!
OMG I wish I was a kid or teenager when this came out, This is one of the best Musicals I've ever seen, it was amazing and the songs were Broadway level, this is my favorite Pokèmon thing of all time.

Hey Chris, when I saw this show with my family in Chicago I managed to get a HD recording of the first 30 minutes, it's REALLY clear, the characters are not blurred, there is no washout on ANY of the characters. I was looking for a DVD release, before I knew that the HD recording of the full thing had been lost, I would like to release the HD footage I got of the first 30 minutes of it on camera! I'm afraid of getting copyrighted by any of the studio's involved in this project, may I have permission to release it? I think people who didn't have the chance of seeing it would really like seeing the HD footage, no offence to you, but watching this footage of the show really doesn't do this fantastic live-show justice.

Chris doesn't really have approval to give. He doesn't own the copyright. The version he uploaded is just as boot-legged as what you'd upload. Just make a new account if you're worried about a copyright claim. If they haven't taken Chris's version down, I'm sure your version will be fine.

It’s been a while since I’ve gone back to rewatch this play, but as someone who grew up with both Pokémon and theater, this show is very dear to my heart. I only wish I could have seen it live. But I am extremely grateful to have this recording! Thank you so much for keeping this all these years and uploading it for us to see.

I remember seeing this in Radio City. Still to date the only thing I've been to Radio City for. I don't care that I was 25 when I saw this. It was amazing and I loved it so much. I was able to actually get my hands on the CD and I listen to it this day. Thank you so much for putting this up.

About the minimal cheering, remember that the camera and the mic are in the back the theatre, and the noise from the stage is travelling towards it. The audience's applause travels away from the mic, which is why it sounds so quiet.
