If you add up Stilicho, Flavius Aetius, and Belisarius. You got a century of extremely competent Roman Generals who had their enemies running in fear. They were brought down by insiders not outsiders, had they been allowed to continue in their colossal work, then it would have likely given the Roman Empire a century of dominance and breathing space. Would the Romans have fallen after the great Belisarius, who knows, but their continued presence on the battlefield, representing the Roman Empire would have deterred a lot of hostile aggressions. It is just a sad state of affairs that the Roman Emperorship had turned away from the likes of Trajan, Marcus Aurelius, Aurelian, Diocletian, Julian, etc :(

Secondly, I would not add Justinian to this list for his treatment of Belisarius. The guy was a genius, conquering so many territories with so little, overcoming bigger forces despite being numerically disadvantaged. Belisarius and his policy of treating the civilians in a respectful and kind manner was colossal. Cities opened their gates to him without Belisarius having to fight. ...In the ethereal landscapes of Elysium, where time and space flowed differently, Stilicho found himself emerging from the mists of the afterlife. The last vestiges of his mortal pain - the cold, sharp bite of the executioner's blade - faded away, replaced by the serene warmth of the eternal fields.
Before him stood a figure he knew from the annals of history: the radiant Emperor Aurelian. Stilicho, in his surprise, took a step back, eyes wide. "You are... Aurelian, the Restorer of the World," he murmured, a hint of disbelief in his voice.
Aurelian nodded, extending a hand in welcome. "Indeed, and you are Stilicho, the half-Vandal who bled for Rome. You, too, are Roman in my eyes," he proclaimed with unwavering certainty.
As Stilicho processed Aurelian's words, another figure stepped forward, the renowned Emperor Trajan. His eyes, filled with understanding and empathy, met Stilicho's. "You did not fail the empire, Stilicho," he said with a voice imbued with respect.
And then, from the shimmering mists emerged Augustus, the founder of the Roman Empire, his aura magnificent and commanding. "Trajan speaks the truth," he asserted, his voice resonating with authority. "It was the empire that failed you."
Stilicho's heart swelled with emotions; the words of these great emperors were a balm to his wounded soul. But it was Aurelian who delivered the final truth, placing a reassuring hand on Stilicho's shoulder. "In death, we see with clarity. But it is not for the departed to dictate how the living should proceed. We can only watch, and hope."

You have to understand, Stilicho was highly virtuous, just like Majorian. Stilicho's last order, when his barbarian troops came to save him was "to lay down arms" knowing it would lead to civil war and further instability for the Empire. Since he was betrayed and too late to revert the changes, his last efforts to keep the empire somewhat intact was for himself to be executed, obviously he would have been a great emperor but Honorious was still a legitimate ruler. Like one says "So much love for your nation, would only lead to your own demise" GOD, can any man today be virtuous as Stilicho or Majorian?
