  • While Nik and Richard battled with Binky in the shed, Ben headed off to the spectacular Elan Valley in Wales to meet up with Daniel Railean. Dan takes care of all of BOM’s website and hosting through his own business but in his spare time, he’s been building his dream drift car - an RA40 Toyota Celica with the power of a BMW M50.
We know all about the term “Project Creep” but Dan takes it to extremes, pushes his knowledge and ropes in friends to create his own unique car that takes inspiration from many places. A true one-of-a-kind build punctuated by the glorious sound of that straight six.
    Hope you enjoy it!

Yes we are still alive, no we haven't given up on Binky, in fact it's being worked on almost every day, yes we've had various issues that have delayed us beyond what we expected, and no we're not rushing it for anyone, not at this stage. And in the meantime, we still love telling stories and we love making these films so they'll keep coming in and around new Binky and new Escargot episodes.

This is exactly a miss. Talking head and vaguely even seeing anything of the car. But I don't have to watch every video so no problem.
I would just hope they finishded the Binky and then drove it in some hill climb and some daily driving around towns and moors. Then start new similar ground up project. These talking heads can do anyone else just as well.

Right on! When a builder talks about the "walk of shame" to get to somewhere to get the tools and parts is well worth my time for the story. Passion projects like this is are why pure ICE h shift works of art will always exist, kind of like how steam locomotives and horses still have a place for enthusiasts.

Many years ago, I actually used a plastic water bottle (one that you would bring to the gym, that kind) as a washer fluid bottle. I had clearance issues with an aftermarket air filter kit, and instead of modifying the air pipe or changing to a smaller pod filter, I decided to remove the stock washer fluid bottle, remove the pump & proceeded to drill a hole in my wife's neon pink gym bottle that she had left, right on my table. Bit of plumbing epoxy & cable ties, and my shiny new air filter kit was installed, along with an unplanned mod that raised everyone's eyebrow when they saw a hot pink bottle just chilling in the engine bay.

This type of car is one that generally falls outside my interest area, and as such, I usually wouldn't give it much consideration. The engine choice in the title piqued my interest though, and then the production took over. I've come away a fan of both the car and its considered builder, and of the people who put this video together. Bravo, and thank you for the compelling viewing.

These were really common in Australia. Rust like this is almost completely unheard of here.
In fact I'm a mechanic and one of my customers had 3 of these in the forest at his rental property. I used to work on all of them until each one became unviable due to the abundance of cheap better running ones.
I was constantly out there removing parts from one of the non running ones to keep the current one going. Anyway he got a cheap 4x4 and all 3 got parked and his landlord cracked it and made him move them all on. He got scrap prices for 3 good rust free cars that's how little and unloved they were worth here pre covid. They were all crushed in mid 2019. I believe they're worth more now. Yep I knew a thing or two about these for 20 or so years there.
