Imagine how powerful the Hightower are that they received no punishment for the war, and in fact remained as rich and powerful as ever, while the "winners" (Targaryens and Velaryons) were left nearly broke.
Well, lots of major and minor houses lost their Lords, many armies, and overall the entire Continent suffered. The Hightowers suffered losses like everyone else, just maybe not as disastrously.
The Hightowers didn't receive punishment for the war cause technically, this Civil War was between the Targaryens themselves. Why would the Hightowers take punishement for something other Lords agree was the birthright for their own blood, that was mixed with the Dragon?
Some say Rhaenyra was the Usurper, others say it was Aegon. In the end, no one really won, not an ultimate victory at least.
But yeah, in terms of power, the Hightowers getting taken down would've only ruined a family that's so ancient they trace lineage back to the Dawn Era, before Stark or Lannister, Martell, or even Targaryen. They've kept Oldtown running smoothly, have Maesters and Septons/Septas trained and supported heavily there, etc
I would actually have to argue that the greens did win the war, though I know that’s not considered accurate by a lot of people. But the war was fought over the succession… as in who was the rightful successor, not who’s entire lineage would take the throne. Although Rhaenyra’s line technically won in the end, this was after the war had already ended. When the war ended, it was Aegon II sitting on the throne. The fact that history remembers him as Aegon II and rhaenyra’s child as Aegon III is in itself a victory for the greens. The only reason why Rhaenyra’s child got the throne is because everyone else literally was dead, so it continued to follow the line of succession.
It’s like in our real world history, Elizabeth I of England fought with Mary, Queen of Scotts. Elizabeth won but Mary’s child ended up getting the throne in the end anyways because Elizabeth had no heirs. Yet we still don’t consider Mary to have won despite her “lineage” winning out in the end.
@OhMyDuck The war didn't end with Rhaenyra's death, her supporters continued fighting, only this time for her son Aegon who would become Aegon III, and along with his marriage to the last remaining child of Aegon II and Helaena, brought the two factions together thus ending the war.
And Mary Queen of Scots never sparked a succession war against Elizabeth. Elizabeth died with no heirs and James VI of Scotland was simply the closest relative.
There's no "winning" for either side there, we don't consider Elizabeth to have won either.
There was only a few plots from the English Catholics who viewed Elizabeth as illegitimate, but we don't know how involved Mary was in them, we're only cracking the ciphers on the letters in the past few days (or at least a BBC article about it came out a few days ago mentioning they've cracked the code) and many of said letters are missing or lost to time.
@@ohmyduck8101 George Martin is a pacifist. He believes wars don't solve problems, but create them. And his books reflect this philosophy. Like War of 5 kings resulted with deaths of all 5 kings (at least in the show) and all their advisors who provoked it (Tywin, Cersei, Littlefinger, Lysa Arryn, even Melisandra). So is the Dance - it aslo ended with all of its warmongers dead. The Dance has no victors.
Well morning did survive the war the targaryens still had 1 dragon we just dont know how she dies yet im assuming its gonna be fighting alys rivers tho cux the book stop right their where Alys rivers is at herenhall and they cant her out so i think its gon a be moring vs Resurrected vaghar and craxes rat king type thing i think ayls is gonna bring them both back but its gonna be like how madison brings back kyle from ahs coven where she takes random parts and puts them together i think its gonna be like that but eith craxes and vagahr and moring gonna die taking them down but yeah the targaryens did lose all of them intell shortly after tho so even if they where still strong enough to fight another war they wouldnt try cuz moring would have fuck sum shit up lol

I think a shot of Otto in old town with beacon somewhere in the background as he is called back to be the hand again would have been awesome with this score behind it
I hope we will get a shot in season 2 of the Hightower army marching off to war with the beacon shining in green in the background and this theme playing.
She has the best theme in the show, the best lines, and the best motivation. I already loved her in the books but the show *shocked* me with how well they handled her character 💚
She also 100% has the right 👌🏻 her character is a reverse Cersei, that's why the Greens claim is the rightful one this time

There is a Hightower boy who catches my eye but I doubt he will appear. I'm talking about Garmund Hightower, who will marry Daemon's daughter, Rhaena. This fact shows that the Hightower remained important at court and useful allies. So imagine how powerful they were.

I love how the show is showing how her perspective is actually perfectly valid. In the book she came across as a scheming ambitious b***h, but in the show I'm actually sympathizing more with her side than Rhaenyra's. Rhaenyra may be the rightful heir, but she would be a very bad ruler, and Alicent knows her better than anyone else in Westeros. Alicent is still partially motivated by her personal ambition for her children of course, but there is also an aspect of trying to do what's best for the good of the realm. Rhaenyra, even though she is the rightful heir, is just motivated by selfishness and doesn;t seem to have any other ambition for her queenship, other than to have absolute power for herself.
The same here. I have been quite surprised by the series, making me like characters that i didnt though i would like, after reading the books. Otto Hightower was unremarkable yet i like him, conspiring around yet profesional. I like Viserys, the poor guy, everyone think him weak, when he just want everyone to be kind to each other. And Alicent. Her position is clearly the most moral one. Ambitious, yes. Yet she did all she could to make things better with Rhaenyra, sacrificing her personal desires for the king and the kingdom, while the heir fool aronnd, demanding to not be made responsible for the decision she take. Yeah, i understand her fury, her personal distaste, and the realization she surely feel that Rhaenyra just should not and cannot hold power.
I feel the same with Otto, even when he might come as ambitious and selfish, his interests always end up aligning with those of the realm; he also was the first to recognise that Daemon shouldn't even be near the throne and the first to take action on it.
I think they did this so as to not have another Cersie regen in the show.. although it's a spinoff but there are already way too many parallel characters in terms of motives and/or their behaviour..

Its only normal. The books were perspectives of history by maesters. The series is the raw truth of what happened, well mostly, so all these conflicts and confusions that could be prevented were not shown in the books, thats what I love abt the series.

No. Just no. These characters are COMPLETELY different, the only similarity is in their looks. It really annoys me to no end how people are pretending Rhaenyra is another Daenerys and then cheer for her because they cheered for Daenerys. In reality, Rhaenyra is much more like Cersei. She puts bastards in the line of succession to the iron throne, she places her selfish desires above the common good even risking a civil war over it, and she doesn;t think the opinions of the common folk about her matter in any way. That's not Daenerys. That's Cersei.

I'm team Green💚💚💚! Since EPISODE ONE! Don't hate me but the character of Alicent is too much, Even in the book. Her brown eyes color and hair color. I get anxious when I look on People who has BLUE eyes and Green eyes! Which is big and Bright. I dont like it. 🤮🤮🤮 it makes me want to avoid them but I love Alicent eyes she's perfect and Emily Carey and Olivia Cooke portraying her was MAGNIFICENT.

Rhaenyra was pampered, stubborn and reckless, all the shit that falls on her was because of her bad decisions, the woman did not think of anything to have not one but three bastards, besides that she is not seen or read making alliances during her stay in King's Lading. I liked the first chapters but what he did with Criston (he makes fun of him but the only thing the man had in his life was his honor and oath and Rhaenyra shit on that without caring about anything), then the bastard children (and not because bastards but put an arrow target on them unnecessarily) and other things didn't make her worthy of my heart. 🫂 💚💚
I also like greens because I dont like that whore of a queen rhanaera who is willing to pass the throne to her bastards. I mean how can this be allowed!!!!
