They say that all of the generations after them are “too soft.” I remind them that I was bullied so badly in school that I nearly ended my life over it. It wasn’t until my daughter was diagnosed that I learned I may be on the autism spectrum. I was always told I was just weird. I was even treated differently by my own family and I never understood why until then. I remind them of how badly they used to treat me and how I was pretty much the butt of everyone’s jokes and I never understood why. I have explained this over and over again and they still spout out this bs. They take it as proof that I’m “too sensitive.” It’s a me problem, not a they’re assholes problem.

Hey I'm a dad of 2 autistic kids and it's great hearing you talk about it. One had regression one wasn't and it's a traumatic experience for the parents. It's normal to look for answers. Coming to the point of realizing your children are autistic and that it is totally okay is hard. there is nothing to fix or explain it away and as a parent you need to meet your kids where they are, regardless of your perceptions going into parenting. Loving and supporting your kids is the most important.
Get them neuro feedback treatment. And make sure their diet/exercise and environmental health is all really really perfect for them. You say it’s nothing to fix, but why happens to autistic brains in adulthood is really dangerous and sad. 85% of adult autistics are unemployed,,their lifespans are shortened dramatically; and the dangers of truly not understanding social cues can’t be underestimated.
Their risk for dementia, alzheimers, strokes, and their chance of being horrifically hurt by people they don’t understand and even sadder of hurting others without understanding why, their risk of getting peer pressured super easily…. It’s not just nothing. Remember the brain scans indicate similar lack of neural pruning to other conditions such as psychopathy, and that they often have a lack of mirror neurons. There are cellular anomalies in the cerebellum, amygdala and hippocampus. A shrunken cerebellar vermis. In the past people didn’t even get their kids diagnosed unless they were on the very low-functioning end of the spectrum. Now, when there are so many options for possible treatments and interventions for a chance at a possibly good life, I see people eschewing them! Also, the mercury in vaccines thing develops from a complete misunderstanding of Chemistry (third year Chemical Engineering student here). The compound that contains Mercury that is in vaccines is called “Thiomersal” which is an organic compound that does contain an atom of mercury in its molecular structure. However, one of the most basic principles of chemistry is that compounds have completely different chemical properties and effects than their constituents have separately. The classic example is table salt/Sodium Chloride, or NaCl. Chlorine as a gas (Cl2) is a toxic gas and chemical weapon. Sodium by itself is extremely reactive and explosive. Together they are completely harmless and actually pretty fundamental for life. Mercury in Thiomersal is contained in a covalent bond, which is the strongest bond atoms can make. You have to put a lot of energy into it to break that bond. Therefore, it’s a ridiculous statement to even say there is “Mercury” in vaccines, as there isn’t. Mercury would refer to Mercury in its ionic or elemental form, not within a compound. Saying a vaccine contains Mercury would be like saying all medicines contain graphite because there is carbon in all organic molecules (which make up medicine) and graphite is just a carbon structure.

Ethan, I used to get drowsy on the road too. Even fell asleep a few times. Thought it was narcolepsy for a long time. Turned out to be severe sleep apnea. Do a sleep study. Changed my life.
Also, something about narcolepsy that may make more sense of the confusion Dan had; If you have narcolepsy you may not know you were falling asleep for periods of time. That was the scariest realization for me when getting diagnosed. Out of the 5 trials I thought I had slept for 2 and had a dream in 1. I had fallen asleep in each trial and reached REM in 4. MSL time: 86 seconds. I was mortified realizing how many times I may have fallen asleep without knowing and put myself or others in danger.
Honestly that’s so scary… and Narcolepsy isn’t randomly falling fully asleep like Dan thinks, it’s often seen by others as zoning out, which looks similar to absent seizures. You can fall fully asleep but that’s usually not how it happens. I hope he doesn’t have narcolepsy 😅
@@squirrelbugg99 as somebody was really severe narcolepsy I do fall fully asleep often, but it is uncommon for people with milder versions. Which is kind of why I made the comment because narcolepsy has a spectrum like everything else and on the lower-end it's probably hard to detect. I got diagnosed at 18 witches in the spectrum of normal ages of diagnosis and although Ethan is outside of that range if it's mild enough it could go a long time without being noticed. Especially when he likely has ADHD which the medication used to treat that is also sometimes used to treat narcolepsy. But I agree I hope that he doesn't.

Ive noticed highly academic people who are very dedicated to their work often put so much of their brain power and cognitive resources and emotinal energy (and are often neurodivergents: adhd/autistic) into their work that sometimes their personal health choices get left behind or slacked on. Most people with a chill asf job like joe and a tonne of money do get ripped and have the money time and resources to meal prep/have a personal chef.... Rich people with chill jobs of COURSE are going to be healthier. Ffs.
ASD people tend to be able to ignore things when they’re absorbed in their special interests. This includes hygiene among other things. Some autistic people also have issues with eating foods with certain textures, so they may stick to one thing like say chicken nuggets, because they generally are pretty consistent across the board. Being in crowds of people or public places can be very overstimulating for autistic people, so going to the gym may be difficult for some. I have also found that both me and my daughter have really high pain tolerance. We have the bad habit of ignoring things until it’s too bad to ignore the pain or discomfort anymore. We also aren’t taken as seriously by doctors because we can be at an 8 or 9 on the pain scale and act like it’s just another day. I don’t know if it’s because we have learned such deeply ingrained masking skills, but we don’t like to show vulnerability to others. It usually makes us the target of bullies and harassment when we do. Unfortunately autistic people have a much shorter life expectancy than the average person.
Healthcare professionals have extraordinarily high addictions rates. It’s so hard working in healthcare (I know from experience) and when you give so much to people but see the system continue to fail them it can cause people to fall into really dark spaces. Joes an out of touch prick.

Ethan, I truly hope you see this message. My twin has narcolepsy like you speak of. He doesn't completely pass out, but he will have episodes of EXTREME tiredness/sleepiness, like you speak of, even when he's driving. It was very weird when it first started, and a lot of people DIDN'T think it was narcolepsy because so many people think, passing out and falling over, like in the movies. There is medication that can help. One thing that helped him in the interim was journaling when symptoms occur. This helped the doctor and with what to do in the end.

Also, the mercury in vaccines thing develops from a complete misunderstanding of Chemistry (third year Chemical Engineering student here). The compound that contains Mercury that is in vaccines is called “Thiomersal” which is an organic compound that does contain an atom of mercury in its molecular structure. However, one of the most basic principles of chemistry is that compounds have completely different chemical properties and effects than their constituents have separately. The classic example is table salt/Sodium Chloride, or NaCl. Chlorine as a gas (Cl2) is a toxic gas and chemical weapon. Sodium by itself is extremely reactive and explosive. Together they are completely harmless and actually pretty fundamental for life. Mercury in Thiomersal is contained in a covalent bond, which is the strongest bond atoms can make. You have to put a lot of energy into it to break that bond. Therefore, it’s a ridiculous statement to even say there is “Mercury” in vaccines, as there isn’t. Mercury would refer to Mercury in its ionic or elemental form, not within a compound. Saying a vaccine contains Mercury would be like saying all medicines contain graphite because there is carbon in all organic molecules (which make up medicine) and graphite is just a carbon structure.

If you have narcolepsy you may not know you were falling asleep for periods of time. That was the scariest realization for me when getting diagnosed. Out of the 5 trials I thought I had slept for 2 and had a dream in 1. I had fallen asleep in each trial and reached REM in 4. MSL time: 86 seconds. I was mortified realizing how many times I may have fallen asleep without knowing and put myself or others in danger.
Honestly that’s so scary… and Narcolepsy isn’t randomly falling fully asleep like Dan thinks, it’s often seen by others as zoning out, which looks similar to absent seizures. You can fall fully asleep but that’s usually not how it happens. I hope he doesn’t have narcolepsy 😅
@@squirrelbugg99 as somebody was really severe narcolepsy I do fall fully asleep often, but it is uncommon for people with milder versions. Which is kind of why I made the comment because narcolepsy has a spectrum like everything else and on the lower-end it's probably hard to detect. I got diagnosed at 18 witches in the spectrum of normal ages of diagnosis and although Ethan is outside of that range if it's mild enough it could go a long time without being noticed. Especially when he likely has ADHD which the medication used to treat that is also sometimes used to treat narcolepsy. But I agree I hope that he doesn't.

Ive noticed highly academic people who are very dedicated to their work often put so much of their brain power and cognitive resources and emotinal energy (and are often neurodivergents: adhd/autistic) into their work that sometimes their personal health choices get left behind or slacked on. Most people with a chill asf job like joe and a tonne of money do get ripped and have the money time and resources to meal prep/have a personal chef.... Rich people with chill jobs of COURSE are going to be healthier. Ffs.
ASD people tend to be able to ignore things when they’re absorbed in their special interests. This includes hygiene among other things. Some autistic people also have issues with eating foods with certain textures, so they may stick to one thing like say chicken nuggets, because they generally are pretty consistent across the board.
Being in crowds of people or public places can be very overstimulating for autistic people, so going to the gym may be difficult for some.
I have also found that both me and my daughter have really high pain tolerance. We have the bad habit of ignoring things until it’s too bad to ignore the pain or discomfort anymore. We also aren’t taken as seriously by doctors because we can be at an 8 or 9 on the pain scale and act like it’s just another day. I don’t know if it’s because we have learned such deeply ingrained masking skills, but we don’t like to show vulnerability to others. It usually makes us the target of bullies and harassment when we do. Unfortunately autistic people have a much shorter life expectancy than the average person.
Healthcare professionals have extraordinarily high addictions rates. It’s so hard working in healthcare (I know from experience) and when you give so much to people but see the system continue to fail them it can cause people to fall into really dark spaces. Joes an out of touch prick.

My twin has narcolepsy like you speak of. He doesn't completely pass out, but he will have episodes of EXTREME tiredness/sleepiness, like you speak of, even when he's driving. It was very weird when it first started, and a lot of people DIDN'T think it was narcolepsy because so many people think, passing out and falling over, like in the movies. There is medication that can help. One thing that helped him in the interim was journaling when symptoms occur. This helped the doctor and with what to do in the end.

It's worth noting Hasan read a comment, so it wasn't even him making the joke. He just read chat. That's how fragile these "big men" really are.
this happens so damn often with him too, it's so bizarre that people don't take a moment to investigate further. I'm not a super frequent viewer of his (just don't love using Twitch, my phone prefers the RUclips app it seems), and even I have noticed this issue of people thinking he's saying something against them when his tone of voice is clearly indicating that he's reading someone else's take. Doing zero investigation into the context in which someone speaks, and just reacting based off of the words alone, is so indicative of someone prone to going into attack mode unnecessarily. Therapy dudes, therapy is on the To Do list.
The moment I heard Hasan say it, it was very obvious he was reading a comment. Idk how people who use a platform with live features and don't understand what reading a comment sounds like.
