I have autism and ADHD and I definitely see a lot of myself in Fousey. Always perceived as clumsy, annoying or overly emotional, not emotional enough at the right moment, too impulsive, etc. A lifetime of rejection makes you mask so hard that you don't know who you are anymore, like he said. @@SchlauSchafe I may have gone through some trauma later in life, but this would be because of not understanding social context and therefore not recognizing dangerous situations or because of the constant rejection and critique I experienced as somebody with special interests/obsessions, oversharing, freaking out over small sensory stuff or small changes, not getting jokes, having bad concentration and either being great at something or being unable to learn it.. in other words, the root of much of my insecurity is being perceived as different from the start, so these are the most important diagnosis to mention. Everybody from my autism support group has similar stories about rejection and how it effected them, emotional dysregulation just isn't really listed as an official symptom, but it definitely is one.

When Fousey’s dad said he loved him back and he started crying I almost started balling my eyes out. My dad is black and was raised souther baptist. Growing up, a lot of times when I told my dad I loved him his response was either “you too,” or “mhmm”. A year ago my dad had a stroke (he’s almost back to 100% at this point) and since then, I’ve noticed he says “I love you too” now. There’s been so many times in this last year where I had to hold back tears when he said that. I don’t think parents realize how much that truly hurts their children. For years I felt like I was just an annoyance to my father. When Fousey’s dad said he loved him, I could completely empathize with him. I know that had to feel so good! 💖💖💖💖

When Fousey’s dad said he loved him back and he started crying I almost started balling my eyes out.
My dad is black and was raised souther baptist. Growing up, a lot of times when I told my dad I loved him his response was either “you too,” or “mhmm”.
A year ago my dad had a stroke (he’s almost back to 100% at this point) and since then, I’ve noticed he says “I love you too” now. There’s been so many times in this last year where I had to hold back tears when he said that.
I don’t think parents realize how much that truly hurts their children. For years I felt like I was just an annoyance to my father.
When Fousey’s dad said he loved him, I could completely empathize with him. I know that had to feel so good!
