    I'm praying for all you folks in Texas. Winter weather is normal up here in Alberta but I can imagine what a shock it is for you. Hang in there and try to stay warm.

      @@roxanneharrow6486 I live in Arlington Texas, and besides the two scheduled rolling blackouts that had our power off for 45 minutes at a time, our power has been on. I know some areas have lost all power but most of Texas is fine.

      It bad Bruce Texas home aren't design to with stand below freezing temperature night after night. Some Texas home have high ceiling to let the heat rise so that people can stay cool. Now that that design is freezing people in their homes.

      @@siq1k well i live in dallas and let me tell you i was without power on monday for 8 hours, it came back on for only 2 hours and then off again for 6 hours.

      There isn't enough power to go around. 53 percent of the power comes from Natural gas and half of it is gone due to frozen pipelines because ERCOT decided to cheap out on insulation and pocket the difference.

      Natural gas spiked Feb 12, just before this. Lots of people in Texas are using natural gas while the powers out. Next month it'll cost then x 100 % too 200 %.

    I can remember as a child my grandmother having a wood burning stove it would keep the house nice and warm she had lanterns for light no electricity she had a pump water you had to pump it to get water and she had stockpiled or wood old fashioned ways were simpler these modern days are a headache

      Gonna be much worse...busting pipes,dying pets,flooded house, moldy refrigerators, fires in apt complexes due to starting candles and fireplaces left on etc..

      It’s not that bad. I stay in Arlington, we got at least 10 inches of snow. They did two blackouts for 45 minutes two nights ago and the power has been on since.

    Go solar with battery backup and you don’t have to worry about others for YOUR power.

      Some of us don’t have that option unfortunately and it’s doubtful if commercial buildings will make the necessary upgrades without passing that cost down to the renters. But I definitely agree with you. We need multiple efficient and reliable energy resources in place as a standard in all businesses and residences.

    I'm in Austin without power since Sunday and only half my apartments got power today. The back half where I am has burst water pipes and no power.

    If you aren’t in Texas and not affected , you really have no place to state your opinion, I on the other hand am a born and raised Texan, I have two children ( a five year old daughter and 13 year old son) we were without power for over 24 hours, freezing temps.... unless you are a meteorologist, and you understand solar energy, and can differentiate between megawatts or grids, then please keep your asinine thoughts and comments to yourself

    Take care...we had 15 inches last night...but i live in Wisconsin...we hope you stay home and get some heat source...blankets..hats gloves..socks..wear your hats scarf and hat in the home...nice warm fluffy shower gown...if need be sleep in your car for heat...with lots of blankets..fill your tank up...stay warm....

      wind energy is what got us into this mess!! 23% of texas grid is from wind turbines. and 50% + of them are frozen and not spinning... our reliance on alternative energy instead of stable gas/coal//nuclear energy is actually killing people. its people like you who suggest and push such unreliable energy sources who are killing people with stupidity

    You would have thought with the gain in population, commercial and industries, and the surge of tech gadget smart internet of things at each residential household would definitely account for increase in electricity consumption....
    But nooooOOOO, nobody thought the demand is so high, much higher than 2011 (one decade ago, when iPhone was still 4!!)

      IIRC, it's more the cold snap than tech. The gulf is right there, it usually keeps things pretty balmy except 2020's hurricane season decided to pump all that heat directly into space so there's plenty of heat for space, and not enough for Texas, or the rest of the sunbelt really.

    I live in Garland, near Plano Rd and Buckingham, I've been without power since 3:30am Monday morning. The lack of information, updates and communication for Garland and Ercot officials has been reckless and useless.

      Electric cars pollute the air even more about 8 more metric tons
      it's made through lithium which the process to mine it , is more dangerous and harmful for the environment .

    Welcome to deregulation. I noticed that the member owned electric cooperatives are doing a much better job of serving their customers. Just look at any outage map of Texas and you can see that the coops were prepared. The current blackouts are to keep from having an uncontrolled grid failure that could mean over a month without power for anybody in Texas. Digest that!

We use alternative energy on our homestead and used smart design to build a berm home that needs very little input to adjust the temperature. It even has a "cold pantry" as part of the design. We installed air2water gen, and our next project is to try and capture methane to use for cooking. Apparently they can do it in India, so why can't household in America do it?

    Polar vortex hit canada a week ago it been -40c here for a week and some days it was -54c. Finally got back down to -17c. Stay warm people layer up two of everything. And wear warmer clothes I recommend not to wear cotton. Wool is your friend.

    Being from northern canada and having to deal with this every year i feel sorry for what you guy's are going through. Be strong and hopefully this comes to a quick end. tip a roll of toilet paper put in an old coffee can and soaked with lighter fluid then lit makes a great little source of heat to keep the hands warm.

    Thanks for putting your news programs on YT , now under the conditions we have you are my only source i see on my cell internet,
    I charge my phone with , a charged car battery jumper . Other stations local their programing shuts off with the slow internet, saw Greg Fields earlier, the 4 pm .

      No,not too often, and definitely not at this level and coupled with extreme temperatures.. This is historical, and will likely not happen again, for maybe 100 years or ever in our time anyway.. Of course I am not in control of the weather, but jut born and raised here. Just my two cents..

      Uh yes, it's snowed in Texas before. It's been cold in Texas before all the way down to Corpus Christie. This was avoidable, it's been proven in the northern states and other parts of the world that face these winters every year. Someone dropped the ball, now they need to drop their job and hope criminal charges are not brought up against them for the increasing deaths.
