    I can’t help but feel as though the entire gaming community takes Ubisoft and, more specifically, Assassins Creed for granted. We expect massive open worlds that work flawlessly and we don’t want to give them the shout out that they deserve when they achieve what was previously impossible. Technologically speaking these games are remarkable, constantly pushing the boundary and redefining what is possible. You may not enjoy AC games but you have to admit that what they achieve release after release, year after year, is wildly impressive and we should give the talented artists and developers behind these games the credit they deserve.

      Redgrave192 the only people who hate on assassins creed are people too dumb enough to play it. The amount of history that I’ve learned by playing every game is insane. The games are flawless and I’ve always wanted a free running parkour game before ac came out and no one got it right. When the first assassins creed came out I was instantly in love with the parkour even though it still wasn’t at its best but now with origins having automatic sprinting made it so you don’t have to hold a or x to run so you don’t accidentally jump off a ledge

    • @advantageousanarchy7551
      @advantageousanarchy7551 6 лет назад +5

      Redgrave192 yes but when the creators don't give a shit about the franchise they're attempting to uphold, no amount of historical integrity, beautiful graphics, or painstaking crunch time Ubisoft forces on it's employees will bypass that. As singular IPs Black Flag, Unity, Syndicate, and even Origins are all beautiful games with complex world's and decent characters. BUT, due to the fact that these games are all in the same franchise, there is no excuse. They soil the name with saturation, assassins that aren't actually assassins and HELL, in rogue you LITERALLY play as a FUCKING TEMPLAR. FFS the series isn't even truly about assassins anymore. Jack wasn't even really an assassin. Arno joined on a limb. And whatshisface from AC4 just stole an assassin uniform.
      These are horrible AC games and that's the point. They've broken a good universe and that pisses me off more than whatever the fuck Disney is creating for Star Wars. Or should I say, destroying.

    • @weaverquest
      @weaverquest 6 лет назад +11

      Salt Don't dismiss everyone's criticisms just because you like the parkour and history in the games. AC Unity was a horrible open world game because of its extremely lazy side quests and every other activity that became extremely repetitive. There was a thief to tackle and some NPC's to save every two seconds, opening useless chests, collecting ribbons with zero challenge, poorly written detective missions I can go on and on. Only interesting part was the Nostradamus Enigmas which gave the players a good incentive to read and familiarise themselves with the structures in the city and their historical backgrounds. Main quests were also well done in my opinion both in terms of narrative and gameplay but as an open world game it failed miserably.

    I feel like most people just put Ubisoft into the same category of tripple A publishers/developers as EA, Activision and 2k. They surely made mistakes. But what are the biggest mistakes Ubisoft did? Probably visual downgrading (which they don't anymore), One buggy release and Uplay. Thats not all that bad, but they are showing again and again that they care about the games they are making and publishing. They gave AC a one year gap because they recognized that it needed some more time. they did their best to change and add to R6 siege and The division, 2 games that should have been a lot better on release but are some of the best of their genre by now. They adress the issues people have with their games (watchdogs comes to mind) and try their best to make the sequel better. Yet noone talks about it. hm.

    • @StormWorm5364
      @StormWorm5364 6 лет назад +59

      "Probably visual downgrading (which they don't anymore)"
      Wildlands was downgraded. So they still do it.
      The multiple incredibly horrible PC versions (which, to their credit, are pretty much gone now), microtransactions in single-player only games, annualization, the multiple versions and store exclusivities, pre-order exclusivity for some missions/activities and probably some more I'm forgetting (plus what you said, obviously).
      Ubisoft was just as bad as Activision and EA back in the day. At some point, IT WAS worse than EA.
      Mostly because EA wasn't being a bunch of cunts while Ubisoft still had the balls to sell horrible products upon horrible products that showed how much of a fuck they actually gave about the PC platform, which is much more important than people give it credit. It's literally saying: "let's sell to this platform just because we can get more money out of them, but fuck em seriously". On top of that, they had the multiple
      _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
      Either way, they've been a mostly good publisher recently. Their PC versions are usually pretty good (some even better than the console version, like Siege and The Division), and they don't abandon their fuck-ups. Siege was horrible at launch, The Division was ok at launch but got pretty bad because of some dev choices (they than fixed the game with Update 1.4, which came out on June 2016), For Honor was horrible at launch but they kept supporting the game, and now the devs are working on making sure the game has a dedicated server system instead of a P2P system. Wildlands's launch was also pretty bad, but I think they are supporting the game and I hope it actually becomes something more than what it was/is right now.
      I like how they've changed. But I understand why people aren't giving them credit. People are still on the fence when it comes to Ubisoft. And I can't blame them.

    • @YarpenZ64
      @YarpenZ64 6 лет назад +21

      Ubisoft has earned that reputation. The Division was plagued with bugs and the first expansion was terrible. Rb6 Siege was a complete shit show for much of year 1 and 2 which is why they had Operation Health. I mean, there used to be server disconnects (leading to deranks) every single game and the bugs were insane. Plus, they did nothing about the hackers on PC until year 2 when they realized they might actually have a decent game. For Honor? They pretty much bailed on it, Wildlands was downgraded after release as well.
      Don't get me wrong, I loved Origins. It's probably tied with Horizon Zero Dawn as my two fav games this year but just because they made one game right, doesn't automatically mean people are going to forget, nor should they.
      Between how good Origins is and the current state of Siege, I look forward to seeing what Ubisoft comes out with in the future. But I'm still going into it with my eyes open.

  • @ashthetrash0

    I think we really like to blame ubisoft. They are the scapegoats. The only unfinished or disappointing game they made i can think of are watch dogs and ac unity. And they weren't really bad games. And look at what they have been doing in the recent years, they listen to the community, commited themselves to fixing and bettering games like for honor and rainbow six siege, took a year off releasing ac, watch dogs 2 was so much better than the first one in many ways, they don't show fake gameplay in e3 or trailers like they used to, division 2 released in great shape, they donated for the notre dame fire. They are really trying to gain back the support they lost, but people just won't give them any credit. But any small misstep they take is immediately noticed and are called out for it. Even with the recent dlc for ac odyssey when people were unhappy about something, they quickly apologised and fixed it soon after.
    Look at EA and what they do every year, with every game, with it's studios and devs. Ubisoft is so much better, constantly. I really think we should now forgive ubi for it's past. Right now, with everything going on with the games industry, i say we need more publishers like ubisoft if it saves us from EA, Activision and the like.

I get it if its rushed then its gonna have bugs but stop bitching ,every ubisoft game i played it was barely buggy.
      They act like its completely unplayable and its the worst thing ever .
      I hate this industry

    • @m.g7408
      @m.g7408 3 года назад

      I completely agree, not only do I not hate ubisoft and not get why others do but I love them. I know some of the hate they get for no innovation and stuff. But they constantly year after year put out massive and I mean massive games barely any bugs optimized to the extent that with a mid range pc I can play awesome games with awesome graphics still and they are all comparable to gta 5 in scope and everything. Rockstar takes 6 years to put a game like that out and ubisoft do it year after year. Im just amazed how they optimize their games though massive and beautiful but I can run them easy no problem while even other shitty games much smaller and uglier I run with reduced everything to get a playable frame-rate. And they get some criticism for putting the same open world model out again and again but they themselves pioneered this model and it fuckin works thats why every other open world game from witcher to horizon copies this model. And you cannot build every game from the ground up different when putting out these massive games year after year, even other games copy this style that do not release on a yearly basis. And although they keep the same base model you cannot say they dont put the work in becuz every title is a new time era and city and everything all crafted down to most basic assets historically accurate from that time. I do NOT get the hate they receive and appreciate them very much. Its like in this internet age someone just says some bullshit and shapes everyones mind and no one thinks for themselves. Even the games like unity ubisoft has put although a little buggy but still one of the best looking games ever with a very good story that I hold dear to my heart. Its not like some shitty game! And even so with origins they revamped the whole model of the open world so they do innovate but they put out so much quality games it feels like they’re doing the same old same old while they are not and they keep changing up the games. If you select games they have put out five years apart you can see they are nothing like each other. The whole pirate system with black flag nothing like the earlier ac games, origins nothing like the previous. Look at other yearly releases like fifa from ea, basically all the same shit year after year. I fuckin love ubisoft for making it so that I with a mid range pc can enjoy these massive open world historically accurate experiences year after year. If ubisoft were to concentrate their efforts for a few years on one game like cd projekt or rockstar I think they would easily be able to top the witcher 3 or gta 5. I have to say I wouldn’t like that but I bet you they could easily. The industry needs these yearly or two year massive releases cuz if ubisoft were to do what rockstar were doing you would be stuck with one game for a couple of years. The industry needs rockstar and cd projekt, but it also needs ubisoft. So stop hating people and appreciate what they do a little instead.

      To be honest: I found each GTA less and less fascinating. Vice City and San Andreas today seem sooo small, yet you knew these maps by heart and there was soo much to discover. GTA 5, in the contrary is too huge and there is not enough to fill that world. You rely on your map, don't go into all the sideways and generally the world seems more ... sterile. Origins brims with love and even the empty parts like desheret are intentionally there to convey a feeling (emptiness, loneliness and the sense of sublimity and respect for the endless desert .. in my case). In GTA San Andreas, I loved to roam and mess shit up but in GTA 5 i never did so. I was mainly doing missions because the world just had little to offer and thinking about dying and then having to go these long ways again made me feel discouraged already.

      David Fehn Yeah, GTA V's map definitely lacked the fun factor I loved about Vice City and San Andreas. Half the map is just wasted empty space, whereas San Andreas used the forests and deserts to fill the space between cities and made the world feel richer and more varied.

      Assassin's Creed died with Ubisoft firing its original creator during the development of Brotherhood. (reason at the end) And ever since then, it has been a rehash of the same idea or a feeble cover up of a big fuck up. AC 3 was where it showed the most, the fans of previous ACs enjoyed it as a game but the story/game was devoid of emotion, unlike its predecessors. Almost like it was an empty shell of its past self... Patrice Desilets was the original creator of AC, he also worked on PoP and when fired from Ubisoft (he was asked to turn AC into COD because the first AC was very successful, which he refused) Patrice tried making a spiritual successor to AC called AMSTERDAM 1666. You can watch the leaked trailer on RUclips, which itself has more spirit than any recent AC game. However, Ubisoft bought THQ Montreal, the studio in which Patrice worked and FIRED him! But, his IP was theirs and they refused to let him have it. He dragged them to court for years and when they finally allowed him to have it back, he was working on another game (Human Odyssée looks intriguing and dope)... AC is just a cash grab, if it loses fanbase it will be shut down just like PoP was or when something bigger shows up, it's just their cash cow right now because all you fuckers keep buying it.

      MG1995 From a technical and development standpoint Assassins Creed Origins was on par if not better than TW3, however even though it was fun AC Origins does not have any good story missions which make you care about the characters, sure Bayek and Aya are amazing but they are far cry from the likes of Geralt and co. However if AC manages to fix its glaring story issues it can reclaim the title AC Brotherhood had been nominated for so long ago.

      I agree and disagree at the same time.
      From an technical standpoint, there's just no doubt that AC Origins is objectively superior to W3. In terms of its world and intricacy, I reckon W3 doesn't even come close. People always praise W3 and its graphics, and they do look nice. But AC Origins is just so much more impressive.
      At the same time, in terms of narrative structure and story, W3 is a better game. Where I disagree with that is I don't think W3 has a particularly story either. Geralt is one-dimensional, and I know that is the point. But that doesn't change the fact that he's a very shallow character. I actually prefer Bayek, but W3 told its story (which I didn't think was very good) better than AC Origins. AC, as you said, has characters you don't care about, apart from Bayek himself and Aya (only because she's a badass, not because she actually has depth).
      In other words, I don't consider either game to be the pinacle of open world storytelling. But W3 is clearly better than AC in terms of characters and story. Just as AC is better than W3 in terms of its worlds and technical depth. This is why Red Dead Redemption is still my favorite game of all time. It mixes the best from both: a fantastic open world with insane mechanical and technical depth, especially for its time, and a story which I consider still unmatched as far as AAA open world games go.
      This is why I want Witcher 4 to happen... Because I think they can still improve the W3 formula, in spite of what fanboys say. Just as I hope the next AC game will improve its story and characters.

      MG1995 You're right there is so much more open world games have yet to achieve yet they also face the ugly future of the gaming world called monetisation.
      We have been playing Assassin's Creed and know that this franchise gets undeniably better with every release (except maybe the Unity/Syndicate, but then again those were the games gave birth to Origins)
      CD Projekt working on CyberPunk will definitely bring something fresh to the open world genre (And I too love the idea of a Witcher 4)
      But there is one game that has a scary future: Red Dead 2. Bear with me Red Dead was easily the best open world game of the previous gen but as soon as Rocksteady released GTA5 they had an idea called GTA online which operated on basically real money, (and it made huge bucks putting a smile on the publishers faces) its not pay 2 win but it definitely inspired other companies(which led to the notorious loot boxes) - and the result: the offline open world of GTA was completely abandoned. (Couldn't really say the story was to my taste either but hell it's GTA.)
      Point is if Rockstar abandons a narratively focused open world for a simulated MMO fleshed with micro transactions, Red Dead will die and when that happens there will be hell to pay. (Or others will just follow suit - either way we burn down Rockstar or they burn down the genre)

      I too fear for RDR2.
      Not only for the reasons you've mentioned... but RDR2 has been in development hell for some years, and key members have left the company. Not to mention the reports of the team feeling burned out.
      I want RDR2 to be the best game ever, but I fear it will be very disappointing. I hope I'm wrong.

    Honestly, ACO is one of the greatest games I've ever played. Huge map, endless missions, puzzles, and a few heart pumping occasions. Want to go to the desert, swamp, city, mountains, river, you can do all of those. And even when you complete the main storyline, there are things made just for the max level players so the fun never ends; DLC, war elephants, Trial of the Gods, etc. If what you see in the game is good but critics don't recognize it, play it anyways because Ubisoft is always there fixing, adding, and making new things all the time. Honestly well said, Luke Stephens, I couldn't have said it better myself. Also to add, out of other AC games, this one somehow stuck with me; the amazing graphics, clean and easy to use menus, swift controls, and let us not forget the picture taking mode.

    One of the most amazing things about Origins to me is, if you kill a guard then go and hide if of his friends finds the body the the guard will attempt to search for you, when he cannot find you he picks up his friends body and takes him away to bury him.
    This is one of the many details in origins that no longer occurs within odyssey and consequently the world of odyssey does not feel as alive.

      +Mr Kebab, for the number of things going on concurrently and the graphics, the game is actually okay optimized. I have 16GB DDR4 RAM, GTX 1060 3GB, and Intel i5-6500 @ 3.2GHz, so medium-end I'd say, and the game averages about 48 fps. Now, this is of course not substantial, but I have a 60Hz monitor and 48 fps is enough for it to not lag, which is, of course, the most important thing. I do play on Very High though (I'm a huge graphics lover), and if I toned that down to Very Low I'd probably be able to get above 70 fps.

    I feel the Assassin’s Creed games are just criticized because Ubisoft made them, I’m not insulting Ubisoft here, I’m saying that because of Ubisoft’s many mistakes, people say Assassins creed is just as bad as any other game, granted Unity had glitches and the story was a bit off, but no one said anything about the amazing graphics? The new style of gameplay? The character customizations? The online features? It’s a great game when you think about it. Same with Syndicate, it had a weird story, and the combat was a bit bad, but the graphics? The character build ups? The DLC? The city they chose? The connection to Black Flag? Assassins creed games might just be the greatest games, only if people paid closer attention to them...

      CONTENT! Can you people fucking realize that CONTENT is what matters! People didnt say anything about graphics?! What kind of stupid statement is that?! Are you that easily impressed that you feel the need to mention graphics?! AC fails everything that matters in games: boring skill trees, simple combat, none-rewarding exploration, simplistic parkour mechanics, no interesting abilities, basic stealth, little content, repetitive map sweeping, etc etc. There is a reason why AC games are so hated. Actually, there are many reasons...

    • @fergalbrophy1760
      @fergalbrophy1760 6 лет назад +12

      The reason why AC is hated is because of bandwagonning, people loved it before unity
      boring skill trees? Just like any other if you ask me, simple combat? The combat is origins is anything but simple, non rewarding exploration? In origins you see interesting rewarding shit all the time, you would be riding around the desert and run into hidden tombs filled with good gear and an xp boost. Simplistic parkour? AC does the best parkour mechanics around easily, name one game with better parkour, No interesting abilities? You want the character to shoot fireballs out of his hands? Basic stealth? Just like any other stealth game to be honest
      you obviously have never played any of the games, if so probably the shit ones.
      People just hate for no reason. the gamer community are the biggest crybabies on the net. If you want the impress them you give them a generic medieval fantasy rpg with a bland main character

    They see smoke in a game, and they think oh look at that it doesn't look like the fire smoke I watch on the news on TV. Little do they know that smoke hides around 2 to 3 subsystems to be rendered, not to mention the art. That's just one of the SIMPLEST examples.

Although i think art and the effort put into a game is impressive i would be more inclined to play a game thats fun than a game that looks nice. True. The AC Series are truly underrated. After Unity, half of the AC fanbase died. If this game had another title to it instead of Assassins creed, then there wd certainly be millions of fan boys with their dicks out to try out the game. This reminds me of Christopher Nolan. He uses a concept of time in mostly all of his movies, and kids think that its completely mindblowing(No hate, i do love his movies a lot). But if someone else, like Tommy Wiseau manages to make a movie like Prestige etc. , it wd be considered shit. This is the Placeboid Effect. Deal with it guys. The only series which i feel that ubisoft has put their hearts into is the AC Series..

Much to my surprise I really never experienced any glitch again until a few days ago when a nearby trireme started flying (a patch for that glitch was published the very same day). Those are the only 2 glitches I have experienced in about 50 hours of gameplay. Ubisoft is not the best company out there, but they have delivered an outstanding experience with Origins. The stories in the last 5 ACs were crap, I must admit - Origins' story is not on par with it's astounding open world and gameplay but if they *fire all their current writers and get good ones,* (good Lord please make this happen) I'm very positive that the next AC might be nominated for GOTY.

      lol, Mario vs AC... Yes Mario franchise is huge, and they keep coming out with new games, but their target audience is very different, besides regular players, parents buy it for their kids, the IP is fairly simple and lighthearted. Not too many titles compete with it for a market share. You also have to give Nintendo credit - the variety is there, cart, 2d, 3d, toys, etc. So no, it doesn't count for Mario.
      Then there is AC, competing with ton of other similar games for the attention of the same target audience, (Uncharted, Just Cause, MGS, Dishonored, Far Cry, Middle Earth, Batman, Thief, Dying Light, Horizon Zero Dawn, GTA, etc)...

    AC origins should be Awesome... because the last real, non-recycled, non-reskinned AC game was Assassin's Creed 3.
    And games from AC Unity are unfinished *RUSHED* cash grabs.
    AC Origins is the true, *finished* product, and it shows.

      The last real non-recycled non-reskinned AC game is Unity, actually. Origins is basically a total conversion/expansion of Unity, which is an actual independent standalone application. Frankly, I can only call Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed III and Assassin's Creed Unity 'real', as you say, games because all other Assassin's Creed entries (and actually not just Assassin's Creed but a number of unrelated games as well) are based on those.
      P. S. 'Assassin's Creed IV' shouldn't have been called that. 'Unity' is a weird name and the 'IV' would suit the game so much better. There would be no problem if they called that 'Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag' thing just 'Assassin's Creed: Black Flag' without the 'IV' and saved it for the next game, which was a real step forward in the series' evolution. For me Unity is the actual 'Assassin's Creed IV'.

    • @gets0410
      @gets0410 6 лет назад

      Sorry, that's what I actually meant, *Unity* is what I consider to be the last Assassins Creed...next games from Unity seems recycled and doesn't feel new.
      And the "New" true AC game since Unity, using the same game engine, is *AC Origins*

    But games are not just a collection of systems and, at the end of the day, the game must be satisfying to play as well.
    It doesn't matter how intricate the climbing animation is and the code behind it, if for the player all the platforming amounts to is holding down two buttons and pointing in the direction you want to go, while the game does all the work for you.

      Every Assass game has been more simple to play than the last in that regard and Origins is no exception. Climbing in these games once did feel special and realistic with exciting moments but lately (In origins especially) it feels like a joke. As you said, the game basically plays itself. Push a direction and watch as the character leaps three times further than a person should be able to.
      It does not matter how detailed the code is if the game is a failure. I even have a friend that is so obssessed with the series that he went to Italy to see Venice and such and he could not manage to play through Origins.

    I found the graphical fidelity (post patches) and lighting/ atmosphere of Syndicate and Unity Amazing and i truly felt i was there walking in those streets. But, i just couldnt 'click' with the main protagonists and their story wich is why i simply could not finish those games.
    I loved Black Flag, but it never felt like an Assasins Creed game to me. Again, i didnt like the protagonist. I also hated the fact that i wasnt an Assasin at heart plus that the whole Assasin's brotherhood was a very lousy organisation in that game.
    Assasins Creed 3 i loved a lot, but it was slow and uninteresting/ boring at times i.m.o.
    I think we can never get such a compelling story, protagonist and overall atmosphere like the first few Assasins creed games. (Being AC 1, AC2 and AC Brotherhood)
    Origins to me is an amazing game that i will not forget for years to come. The amount of effort that has beeb put into this game has payed off. Only the story is a bit mediocre.
    I am looking forward to the next few AC games. Esspecially where they will take place;
    -Medieval Times like that one mission in Ac unity? Would be cool to see the devastation of the Great Plague.
    -Feudal Japan?
    -Great Mongol Empire?
    -The Time of explores and expeditioners, and the Dutch Golden Age?
    -Some game set in the time of the Assyrians, Babylonians? That would be before Origins then so i think not.
    -World War 1/ World War 2. hey just sayin, it might work
    - INSERT YOUR IDEA HERE :) -

      ImmersiveRPG's-ByMe, Assassin's Creed died with Ubisoft firing its original creator during the development of Brotherhood.

      I think at some point they're going to have to take us into the future with these games. People are already bored with the animus bit. Taking us out of the story to play as some person in modern times just takes us out of the game for no real reason. I personally think it'd be cool to see the series catch up to the modern age and maybe go a few decades into the future. That'd make for cool settings they could create from scratch, and cool items and costumes. They'd also have the benefit of being able to create characters and areas from imagination rather than having to do their due diligence of upholding historical accuracy. But that's just me.

    As an Assassin's Creed follower since the first, I really feel like they lost their way. I'm personally taking a wait and see stance before investing my time and money into yet another open world game such as this. There are just too many games that take up too much time with meaningless tasks, and I (and a lot of others) don't want to waste our precious time with it. You do point out some major points about their attention to detail and technical achievements, and they deserve credit for it. However, that's what is to be expected if you're going to make a AAA open world stealth action game, and Ubi/AC has been doing that for the last decade. They decided to take a year off and polish the game because their sales were tanking, and that counts towards these GOTY votes and hence why it was not considered.
    I could just be talking for myself, but I think the gaming collective at large is waiting for AC to have a purpose/incentive to invest play time again like the pre-Black Flag games did rather than it being "Historical Action Simulator 2018" where you get to explore ancient Egypt or some other region of the world. As much as the vocal internet hates it, the present day sections up until AC3 with Desmond served a purpose of anchoring the narrative and giving purpose to the going back in time segments. With that gone, I don't see a focus or a reason why I should be playing this series. Ubi can add RPG elements to the game and more stuff to do, but that is going in the opposite direction of what they really need to do - which is to give every minute of play meaning, not just pad number of hours by adding gameplay elements. I would rather have an Assassin's Creed game that gives me 8-12 hours of meaningful play that I can replay because it is just that awesome rather than a 40-80 hour potential slog to complete. We have enough entertainment options to keep us busy compared to ten years ago.
    Anyway, my thoughts.

    • @marypalmer00

      Laurence Nash I see your point, but they had to improve in this direction, the previous strategy was not providing Ubi with enough mass interest in the game, I guess

      Ezio games are my favourites. The gameplay did change very little during them but at least they had intricate systems that worked and fit the series. With newer games they just replaced some of that stuff in hopes that that would make it sell more. But it's not better, it's different. And I think even worse. Origins has seemingly removed almost everything about the old games such as combat, eagle vision, random task and hiding in plain sight.

    I haven't played AC Origins yet but I bought and played the others, at least the main ones...
    The problem with AC is its gameplay.
    IMO, there's no other company in the industry that can deliver such massive and well crafted worlds as Ubisoft do -- AC Unity's world is probably the most amazing thing I have ever seen in a video game -- but then, at the same time, I've never seen a company miss the target so much when it comes to gameplay... such amazing worlds and yet the core play is dull, tedious..
    AC Unity's the most impressive game I've ever seen and yet I couldn't stand more than 20 hours of it... what's the point in creating such massive and well crafted worlds if the actual tangible content is bad?
    I'm always buying the next one and wishing they fixed the gameplay, it's been like this since 2, but they never do... I want to enjoy these games so much, man, you have no idea... I love the themes, the historical facts, the fictional lore, the graphics, the world, the details... but they're just bad as games...
    And it's not just AC... Far Cry 3 and 4 suffers from the same thing, Watch Dogs the same... even Rainbow Six Siege has this Ubisoft "inverse polish" ffs, It's like they have no clue how to make fun games other than Rayman.

    I agree that Ubisoft needs to be credited more for the work they have done, but this does not mean that AC Origins deserves the "Game of the year" title. From my experience, I had way more fun playing Mario Odyssey than AC origins because Nintendo made the gameplay super entertaining to play with. Yes, the game's graphics and attention to detail are nowhere near AC Origins' but it is more fun. And that's what matters the most in a game; is it fun or not. AC Origins was fun also, but not as much as Mario Odyssey IMHO. I keep buying AC games since I'm a fan and because of the eye candy :P

      Its given to the ones that are beautifully created and has deep meanings .
      Mario might be a lot fun to play , but it comes nowhere near AC games , to compare them is just stupid .

    The problem is, people in the gaming press generally don't care about history and don't want realistic historical settings (unless it's WW2) - so they'll never give AC the respect it deserves. Fortunately, the people who made AC1 didn't care, and gave us AC1 anyway. The story of the AC franchise has always been of the fight between those who want AC to be like all the other games, and those who care about history and want to play games in realistic historical settings.

  • @agro0
    @agro0 6 лет назад +3

    Well, from a game mechanic standpoint, super mario odysee is way more innovative and diverse than assassins creed origins. Measuring the quality of a game primarily on its technical aspects is incredibly narrow minded. Altough I enjoyed assassins creed origins, it's always mostly just more of the same in a different setting. That's still impressive and cool, since the AC series is generally a lot of fun. But the big difference between Ubisoft and Guerrilla Games is that Ubisoft had 10 games to perfect all of this while Guerrilla Games managed to get most of it into a game without ever making an open world third person game ever before. A very good backflip after 10 tries is more impressive than a perfect backflip after 100 tries...

    I agree with every point you've made, and this is EXACTLY what pisses me off when people bash and hate on these kinds of REMARKABLE games, claiming that they are bad or not up to their ridiculously high standarts, which I don't think any other game would even get close to Ubisoft's level of performances in game design.
    I mean, ffs! I'm constantly impressed with the way her system in Syndicate and how it makes puddles of different depths that look so real, with the brick roads reflecting through them and everything! It's absolutely mind boggling to me how people can claim that these graphics are not good enough, when they are clearly outstanding!!!
    It's like nothing is good enough for them and it pisses me off because getting to these levels of detailed is extremely hard and takes huge amounts of work which they clearly can't even begin to fathom!

      Besides the bugs which is just unacceptable, the only problem with AC has been the story, never the world or mechanics. Unity and Syndicate the gameplay was amazing and the cities felt alive too. The same with Black Flag and 3 mechanics amazing story meh while Rogue had a good story.
      AC 1 actually a bad story, Brotherhood also bad.

      4 Had a great pirate story that worked alongside the assassin stuff
      Rogue analyzed the plots and mythologies built up by prior games
      And Origins has it's tale of starting the brotherhood.
      As stories, the AC games are still delivering

    I don't like when people make videos where they speak about things they have low knowledge of. Because ACO's climbing system desnot differ from any previous games of this series, it's just a little more polished. And ACO still uses how you put it "Anchor points". It does not achieved through heavy programming, If they want you to climb certain things they just populate assets with such anchor points either by hand or programmaticly, it's no heavy task. System animates characters leap between these anchor points using pre-recorded animations, tweaking certain parameters, like height of the jump character needs to make it to the next anchor point, and so on. That's basicly the whole system. Uncharted 4 had already done it, like two years ago, and it's system is much more polished. So, i don't mean to offend you but, you are not taking ACO for granted, you are just praying on it.

    Personally it doesnt matter tooo much how "technologically advanced" a game is. There is just so much downtime is AC but not all down time is bad it gives you time to think about what has happened and what is to come but i didnt care about that in ACO because the story and gameplay were in my opinion boring. The climbing is simple. The world isnt that fun to play around in like zelda. The world may be detailed with technological things but they are not that interactive. The fighting is flashy and simple. Some games can pull that off like god of war. But still AC lags behind on the "fun factor" for me. The world may be incredibly detailed and i respect your opinion so please dont deem this comment as "hate". I just dont have as much fun with the later AC games as i used to. I LOVED Black Flag and Revelations becuase they were the first ones i played and i wasnt burnt out with the climbing and combat just yet. About ubisoft being underated again it comes to the fun factor. Far cry 2 was incredible it was challenging on harder difficulties and far cry 3 offered a great world to interact with. Both of those things i do not get from AC. i do enjoy some of ubisofts games. Rainbow 6 was great. Beyond good and evil is fun aswell. It is not all bleak for ubisoft though. Beyond good and evil 2 looks absolutely incredibly and hopefully they can redeem themselves in my mind.

      Yeah, not a single aspect of this game he mentioned hasn't bean done before in another game. GTA V (2013) had all kinds of similar systems in the world that interact, as have RPG games since before 3D graphics. I'm not saying this game isn't impressive, just that NONE of the mechanics or technology behind it is new or in anyway advanced. It's just got a lot in it, but not a lot to do just like every AC game ever. I want to like the games, I really do, but they're just bad games.

    the things is lol, people have pretty low expectations with nintendo games, which will probably explain how Mario got so much attention because the standard of gaming is much, much lower. whereas games released on pc or ps4 etc have higher standards and expectations, people just assume those elements should be there without truly appreciating it, e.g climbing walls in a Zelda game is like "wow!" but have that feature in any game on higher gen consoles and people are like "okay?"

      how am I shit talking Nintendo and how am I being a Ubisoft fanboy please explain? Low expectations in terms of graphical power/ gaming standards. Like no one's expecting a Nintendo game to have hundreds of NPCs on screen at a single given moment, like with many open world or Zombie orientated games, or the ability to free roam an environment with realistic animations and physics, but that doesn't mean Nintendo games are less innovating or fun, and that's my point.

    Being a photographer amd artist I have always noticed the amount of minute details in the AC games. Climb up on the Jackdaw or hang off the front and their are boards, wood patches and knots that technically, do not need to bethere for the game. Climb the Basillica or another building and there are details in the stonework and stained glass, minor details most never notice but little details are there so it feels like a real building that a group of Mason or stoneworkers spent building and putting in details to make the place attractive. Games are doing better versus the original 3D games where walls were plat color pallettes of texture, now we have insects, birds, spots of dust floating about and details.
