TLDW: If I had to give it a number score, I'd say it's a 7/10 if you play on the hardest difficult, 6/10 if you play on the default. It's a game with plenty of problems (bad AI, inconsistent cutscenes, clunky combat and some story elements that are out of place), but I think it's more than the sum its parts and I had fun. Probably only worth full price if you're a super-duper-die-hard-Star-Wars-fan, otherwise I'd wait a few weeks for patches and sales.
That's the kind of game I want to play, I don't want to play something like RDR 2 every evening, I sometimes just want a fun turn your brain off type game
@@edgeclops but it's not though, there are games like RDR 2 and Witcher that take significantly more player investment and I love those kinds of games, Cyberpunk is my favourite game of all time but sometimes I don't want to be thinking about the inherent existentialism and horror that comes with the Cyberpunk genre and just want to forget my reality, Ubisoft games do that really well
Your character not matching the character model in the cutscene is a great way to ruin the immersion of a game. That's so disappointing. The cutscenes being prerendered and looking like bad dubs is janky af.
Game also is horribly blurry and grainy with crazy noisy hair even at max settings. Technically the game should look great due to the ray tracing tech but it looks horrible.
Fr. I saw a vid on Reddit in a windy area. The atmosphere/environment looked incredible… then I see the gameplay and some walkthrough videos. It looked boring ah. Idk how you could give this anything above a 5. I remember when dying light 2 came out. It was so different from the first game and not in a good way. I still gave it a 7/10 after completion (with updates, I’d say it’s an 8/10 now). Starfield, while keeping my attention for ~100 hours, was only a 6/10. Outlaws can’t be better than either of those lol.
Indeed we have. Aggressively mediocre. God, what i wouldn't give for Force Unleashed 3. It was a bit of a GOW clone, but man you could wreck shit with the force. Or that Darth Maul game. Why do we got to play as the ging next door, or in this case discount fem solo. 😢
If those games aren't good if you judge them objectively. I'm a huge Star Wars fan but ya gotta stop glazing. They're unresponsive, the characters are bland, the words are bland, the exploration is redundant, the mechanics are unresponsive, most of the enemies are real-world animals like frogs and sheep, and the Souls style contradicts the power of being a Jedi. They're 6/10 games fr.

not a single system can save terrible foundations, and that's what Ubisoft games in the last (at least) 5-6 years have....same shit like Starfield....Nemesis system would give you the illusion that the game is now fun, but after several hours you'd be bored and bothered by the same things again
@@envi2273 it's a fair comparison considering those games came out like, 15 years ago for max Payne and 10 or so for uncharted. You're telling me it's not fair to compare those AAA games to one released days ago with a massive budget? Even Far Cry has better combat than this game. In Red dead 2 when you shoot someone in the foot the enemies will react, falling over and clutching their hurt foot. That game also is like 5+ years old. This is star wars wtf they should've done so much better
I'm just baffled by how tolerant the reviewers and the gaming population are towards paywalls. Especially we just had Wukong, which is a game with no monetary gimmick, no paywall, no overpriced BS. It is this kind of tolerance that nurtures more paywall BS. This Ubisoft game doesn't deserve a 7. The paywall alone should knock down review scores by 3 points at least.
Paywalls is not a problem as long as its sufficient declared. The whole concept is me paying someone to make a game I play. As long as I know the full price I can make an informed choice of what Im willing to pay for a product. In this case I knew exactly the price before I bought it, and I got exactly what I expected and wanted for my money. So...Not a problem
Luke is tolerant here because he is sponsored by Ubisoft idk how people missed that entire video on AC Shadows where he said he is being sponsored by Ubisoft. Before that video he was also super critical of both these games. After that video he has nothing but nice things to say about them 😂
I'm struggling to understand how your opening statement of the game being "more than the sum of it's parts" is justified by the points you made after that.
I may have worded it poorly, all I’m saying is: the game has problems, some minor, some major but despite that I still had fun with the game after cranking the difficulty.
@LukeStephensTV It absolutely could be argued that a 7/10 game is no longer adequate by any measure. The price and scope of these games are reaching such Olympic heights that even baseline experiences will not be enough to satiate both shareholders, and customers. Another Ubisoft sandbox is not generation defining, or a "must have" title for anyone's shelf.

That’s not a good selling point Luke 39:34 the fact that you the reviewer had to crank up the difficulty cause the game was driving you nuts is the reason to not buy this game.
Luke, my guy, this entire review has been nonstop, "The story is meh, there's some really superfluous *and* frustratingly superfluous characters whose inclusion in the story is giving me a migraine thinking about for too long as I rant and ramble about it, the pre-rendered cutscenes are dated with an off model main character, the facial animations are uncanny and bad compared to a game that came out six years ago, the faction system isn't very responsive to play actions, there are repetitive fetch quests, the A.I. is braindead to the point where it's a detriment the gameplay in both stealth and combat. I had to break my own policy and crank up the difficulty to max so the enemy can kill me in 1 or 2 shots so the braindead A.I. has some kind of chance against me. The wanted system is counterintuitive and doesn't make sense narratively or gameplay wise and was probably done because the A.I. is so awful but it's an open world starwars game that looks pretty when you zoom around on your speeder.....7 out of 10!" And this is a game that costs between 70-130 bucks? More then the sum of it's parts is carrying a hell of a lot of weight when a lot of the parts are substandard, outdated or outright broken, by your OWN admission? Your going through a rather Herculean task here of trying to make critical deal breaking issues like a completely braindead A.I. into not being that big of a deal and it's obvious that your trying to excuse something that other games would be lambasted for.

@@GothPaoki I just think that Ubisoft is fine to keep putting out 7/10 games, I don't always need a 10/10, thought provoking masterpiece to have a fun time with a game, sometimes I just need to turn my brain off
I think this is an example of how sponsorships muddy the waters. You can say there is wording in the contract that allows you to say anything positive or negative, but the fact remains that you have been paid by Ubisoft and given privileged access to the game. You have an incentive to be generous to the game, and in a professional ethical environment your comments would be discarded as biased.
@@Porter-1488 there's no way this game is a 7/10. 5/10 would be average meh tier and based on the words that came out of his mouth that's what this game is. The star wars paint job is doing a lot of heavy lifting
how is it that like 20 years ago, enemies in games like this would fkn dive through windows, under desks, and genuinely try to win... or effectively coordinate different flanking tactics with their fellow npcs and yet here in 2024, when AI is literally the hottest topic on everyone's minds, we have THIS
Half-Life AI put this game to shame, and that's not even a joke. Halo: Combat Evolved still has unrivalved AI for how good it is, and also puts Outlaws to shame and you're right, that game is almost 25 years old at this point.
It's an illusion though. A combination of voices, designs of the combat-arenas and aggressive npc's. It never really coordinated. But it gives a decent impression, way easier with more linear shooters. But I do agree that we should had gotten further. Imo it's a similar story with physics that seemed to have peaked between 2005-2010 (destructibilty in levels)
And I also just want to comment on the animations. Deus Ex Mankind Divided (2016) didn't have the best transitions, but damn its stealth takedowns were satisfying to watch, actually brutal and heavy-hitting. This Star Wars one looks like a wet noddle hit
"It looks/feels like a 360/PS3 game in places" should not be said of anything that released in 2024. I know Ubisoft sets a pretty low bar, but...really?
What's ironic is that this doesn't even look as good as TLOU Part 1 on PS3, and I'm not even joking. If you go back and look at that game it looks miles ahead of Outlaws, which is just embarrassing. I was also recently replaying Max Payne 3, and seriously Max's model and lighting for his face is actually far superior to the lead character in Outlaws.
@@jacobantaya7423 The sad thing is, this is bad for Ubisoft, which is really saying something. They usually produce games that are still 7/10, just kinda bland and formulaic. Games they made a decade ago were better produced than this.
My biggest gripe about this game is your tied to 1 weapon a pistol that really annoys me you cannot go out fine a cool rifle and keep it this is a big waste of opportunity
The thing is, even if you were tied to one pistol if it were cool or the gunplay was actually good it wouldn't matter. Keep in mind that in RoboCop: Rogue City you're also tied to one weapon, but you can also pick up lots of other weapons along the way, and also you can upgrade the Auto-9, too. I ended up using the Auto-9 more than any other gun in the game because it was just that fun to use. The shooting in that game was satisfying, impactful, and well done. The same can't be said for Outlaws, since the gunplay is derivative, samey, and boring.
With all the games that game out prior to that, I refuse to believe this game is worth 70$, if a game is a 6/10 or 7/10 the most im willing to pay is MAYBE 45$. Doesn't matter how big is the game rather how well and polished It's like getting a new car with flaws but still pat full price.

Oh man, I really hope this doesn't come across as too harsh; maybe it's because I'm too jaded. But it is really hard to trust what you say when you put positive spins on things. From what I recall, your team and yourself were given a chance to go with other "influencers" to a fun couple of days in which you got to try out the game early, all on Ubisofts dime. I'm not sure if you went but some of the people who you work with certainly did. And then now here you are with a review for the game before it's even fully out for people to buy, and so I can't help but feel like you're going to want to be careful with your words so as to not get these offers again. I am really sorry if this is too critical; I just have a really hard time trusting people who get such early access, especially in the way Ubisoft did it this time around. I would be much more receptive and trusting had this review come out maybe half a week to a week post-release, with you having picked the game up yourself and having had no possible influence from Ubisoft. Being first to the party with a review is certainly a nice boon, but I just really hope it isn't at the cost of your credibility. In the long term, us viewers will still be here watching your videos as long as you keep things legit, Ubisoft will drop you in a heartbeat the moment they're done with you or you upset them in anyway.

Half-way. What a strange review... It's like you're describing a 4 - 4.5 / 10 game that's still fun and recomended "when you turn your brain off". How is having to turn your brain off a good thing in a AAAA Start Wars game.. and worth a 7/10.. Not even die hard Star Wars fans should be recomended to buy full price. The game does not sound worth it by your own words. But maybe Ubi is just that dumb and you've found a 'read between the lines' way of reviewing.. "No, listen. He's recomending the game. So just keep sending him keys".
Wow... What do you mean we didn't get a garbage SW game this time. I wish you could watch your own review "blind" and see what conclusion you come to. If it's still a 7/10 or even if the review feels off to you. Like I said in a different comment: We're not getting that shit for free like you.. Value for money is a thing. The recomendations almost seem... a bit scummy.
Yeah he's pointing out all the negative things in the entire review yet doing insane amount of mental gymnastics to justify why it is a "fun game" & why it's 7/10. Makes no sense lmao
Probably only worth full price if you're a super-duper-die-hard-Star-Wars-fan, otherwise I'd wait a few weeks for patches and sales.
thank you Luke 🙏
Thank you! Gonna just pay for a month or two of the subscription and beat the game..maybe get it for another month when the DLC comes out if I like it

Paywalls is not a problem as long as its sufficient declared. The whole concept is me paying someone to make a game I play. As long as I know the full price I can make an informed choice of what Im willing to pay for a product.

The wanted system is counterintuitive and doesn't make sense narratively or gameplay wise and was probably done because the A.I. is so awful but it's an open world starwars game that looks pretty when you zoom around on your speeder.....7 out of 10!"

Why you lying.
Feels like if this was AC Valhalla or Starfield he’d be more critical lol
Why do you care what UBIsoft says about Ray-Tracing? Is this a sponsored video?
Yes, clearly.
Luke, personally, didnt go to disneyworld, but his employee that he sent down there to do the preview vid certainly did. Funny way to avoid getting "memed" on.
Wait for real? That early joke definitely made me think that he or his team weren’t flown out. yikes.
@@chasesepulvador6602 Of course they were flown out, that's where the preview build was and they sure as hell didn't walk.
Yes, this is the only time such "corruption" has happened in the industry. Do you even know what press events are? What do you think Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo do? How about the saints of the industry Rockstar, CDPR and From Software? You don't think they fly journalists out to places or give them "special access" and events?

Now is that bad... no, that's his profession, but when this guy says 7/10, he really didn't say anything.
It really feels like Luke has become much more lenient with Ubisoft since Valhalla, similar issues he called out there and before that are brushed over now and focused on much less. Maybe it’s bias, maybe it’s just him not being as critical anymore? He was also surprisingly lenient with Dragon’s Dogma 2 so I doubt it’s Ubisoft corruption or whatever
Now that ubisoft is caught buying good reviews i cant take what you say as truth after all the bad reviews. Hardly anyone said its higher then a 4
Seems like Mr Matty and Big Dan are the only ones being honest about how shit this game is.
I've come across a few honest TikTok reviews, likely because those creators didn’t get paid by Ubisoft. It might be worth blacklisting channels that aren’t being truthful in their reviews. Take Luke, for example-he gets big sponsorships, but because BGS didn’t pay him, you can see how critically he reviewed Starfield. Yet, suddenly, a Ubisoft title priced at $70-$130, full of bugs and issues, gets a higher score, even though he admits it feels like a game from the PS3/360 era. That’s a clear sign something’s off.
Luke I genuinely thought you were a honest gaming journalist but yeah it’s quite clear your being very soft/lenient/easy on them. If this was Bethesda, EA or Activision you would 100% be more harsh.
Really disappointed
He wasn’t financially compensated, but was taken on trips and given “experiences” by Ubisoft. It’s sad that true journalism has died in today’s society.
@@jaredsmith540um.. he said he was sponsored when doing the last review of this slop before launch. Are you no paying attention?

He's very transparent about which videos he's paid for- and the ones he is paid for he calls out that he's allowed to say whatever he wants - which he brings up in this video, while also saying that it's not sponsored.
@@oneboss7648 fam do not tell me this wasn’t a biased review. I don’t care if he was transparent about his relationship or not. This is not the same guy who rips into Bethesda over starfield. "turn your brain off to the bits that hold it back"
We live in a time where multiple options exist where I don't have to do that and have a 10/10 experience, so why would I want to turn my brain off just to enjoy slop?
I mean wukong that's being praised as GOTY and it really is jaw dropping at some parts, not only requires your brain to shut off, we're talking about literal lobotomy to enjoy it. I can't think of a single big title even rdr2. witcher 3, 2077, any big release that doesn't require suspension of disbelief. Not comparing Outaws to these games ofcourse, but your comment seemed weird
@@proksenospapias9327The difference is WHY you're turning your brain off.
You turn your brain off for RDR2, Witcher 3, CP2077, Elden Ring, etc because you're immersed in the game, and are focused.
You turn your brain off to this game because the animations, character models/faces, combat, stealth are bad, and to have fun, you need to shut your brain off to how bad those systems are.
It's like an abusive relationship.
They scream at you and beat you, but you had that one good day that one time and think they will eventually get better but they never do.
@@proksenospapias9327 suspension of disbelief =/= brain turned off. RDR2 sure you may not actually be a gunslinger in real life but between the well written characters, fun gameplay loop, and absolutely stellar graphics makes the game amazing to play. Immersion does not mean your brain is shut off.
Big Dan gave it a 4.5 out of 10. Matty said he was angry and disappointed. I suspect that a 5 out of 10 is probably where it will end up. 7 out of 10 seems too high esp in light of the sneak mechanic issues, the dropped weapons issues and the facial expressions issues. I forget if it was Big Dan or Matty but one of them said some of the expressions were as bad as what we saw in Mass Effect Andromeda. Yikes! It's not worth 70 dollars. I am kinds surprised you were so lenient on its issues. Maybe Heaven Forbid Luke is getting well soft rotfl.
Btw you can finish the main mission in around 20 hrs and that imo is insufficient.
He can say what he wants but he can’t just poop on the game because he still wants to have a working relationship with Ubisoft. I definitely think luke would rate it 5-6 than a 7.
90% of reviews ive seen have given it 7+ and ive watched a lot, most sites have also given it 7+ and its average score seems to be 7.8, 77 on metacritic, so the ones you mentioned are not the average

There is no reason to like her or even why she had to be the lead; no one will be talking about her a year from now excpt for when she's used in those collages to show how bad photogrammetry is done. "terrible lip syncs from the PS4 era" It's the studio, not the era. The option to have excellent lip syncs have been out there since LA Noire in the PS3 era. Studios just don't go that route for whatever reason.
Cheap and incompetent animators. Most of the development staff at Ubisoft are interns and temps, and it shows.
It's like they forget that GTA V and TLOU , and MANY more were PS3/360 titles, and have better face animations and lip syncing than these modern titles.
It is legitimately laziness, and lack of drive to do better. Or maybe even the inability to make them better because the Shareholders and execs don't care about quality and make devs do the bare minimum.
Dude come on, it's more like a 4/10 and that's being generous. How many kickbacks from ubisoft did they give you. Be honest.

It's like you're describing a 4 - 4.5 / 10 game that's still fun and recomended "when you turn your brain off".
