- Pastelitos de queso and other fillings are staple in Cuban cuisine. The cheese pastelito is among the favorites. My easy to make recipe is ideal for anyone without access to Miami's pastelitos.

I made these today and they were delicious. It was my 1st time doing so I learned a few tips working with the puff pastry dough. The brand I purchased already had flour and parchment paper wrapped around each piece so I didn't have to flour counter. I just rolled it out on the paper and cut it. I didn't put enough of the sugar in the end, so will add more next time. Thank you so much!! I lived in Miami over 30 years and here in South Carolina there are no Cuban bakeries. Thank goodness I can get my spices, yucca and other items to make my favorite dishes. No Cuban bread though. Publix here re-branded their Italian bread as Cuban and I told them this is not Cuban bread LOL. I guess my next attempt will be to learn how to make that. 💞💞💞

I grew up in Florida and I live in New York City now and I cannot find authentic Cuban Miami style pastelitos anywhere! Can't wait to make this today. Muchas gracias!

I do these all the time but instead of the simple syrup and raw sugar I use corn syrup. Yummy!

hi! so i’ve tampered with this recipe a bit and just wanted to share what i do for the yummiest results!
-2 tbs water
-1 egg
-pinch of salt
(egg wash)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 tbs of sugar
8 oz cream cheese
(cream cheese)
instead of simple syrup use the same egg wash with an added 2 - 3 tsp of sugar
add raw sugar after baking and slip back in for 5 more minutes as the oven is cooling down
this recipe calls for 20 minutes in the oven, but it should be 20-30 minutes until the edges are browned ( keep checking after 20 min) and you’re done!
*the reason i had to change the recipe is because they tasted a bit bland and the cream cheese had an over powering vanilla taste i also didnt want to make the simple syrup so this is just an easier way 😇 hope this helps someone out! still love this recipe as a base.

Do we have to use the vanilla or is it just for flavor and also can we use any type of Phil cream cheese like the one I have is rounded and in refrigerator. Does it have to be at room temperature?
