Most people who accuse the Seventh-day Adventist as being a cult do not have an accurate understanding of the definition of a cult.
A cult has a very particular definition. Differences in doctrine do not make a cult. But the common "Christian" accuser is arguing differences in doctrine.
If you guys are going to talk about cults and Adventism, you should know what a cult is. It is not a matter of "What do you think a cult is?"
Adventism has spawned at least one cult - the Davidians of Waco Texas.
I'm not okay with the Adventist Curch being called a cult, because that is a lie. Are you okay with the Church being called a pagan church?
There is no way that Adventism qualifies as a cult. Period.

I think it varies from church to church and how they regard Ellen White. The Ellen White “additional insight” that inform SDA doctrine makes me uneasy

This is what Ellen White said.
"The Spirit was not given-nor can it ever be bestowed-to supersede the Bible; for the Scriptures explicitly state that the word of God is the standard by which all teaching and experience must be tested. Says the apostle John, “Believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” 1 John 4:1. And Isaiah declares, “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” Isaiah 8:20.
"Our faith, and our position in the world as commandment keepers is based on the Bible. Never should the Testimonies be brought in to take a high place than the Bible."
"The more we look at the promises of the Word of God, the brighter they grow. The more we practice them, the deeper will be our understanding of them. Our position and faith is in the Bible. And never do we want any soul to bring in the Testimonies ahead of the Bible."
"We have many lessons to learn, and many, many to unlearn. God and heaven alone are infallible. Those who think that they will never have to give up a cherished view, never have occasion to change an opinion, will be disappointed. As long as we hold to our own ideas and opinions with determined persistency, we cannot have the unity for which Christ prayed.""
"In regard to infallibility, I never claimed it; God alone is infallible. His word is true, and in Him is no variableness, or shadow of turning."

@@karlmau7944 Undoubtedly. Every single doctrine we hold is founded in the Bible alone not Ellen White.

@@elijahrodgers416 yeah I shouldn’t of said doctrines, larger beliefs? The additional insight like the whole chapter on sin and pre creation stuff, some of the end of times descriptions and ideas it’s kinda marinated into Adventisim (not to mentions the fundamentalist favourites) . I’m not a hater I still go to an Adventist church, my church Ellen White barely gets mentioned at all other churches it’s a lot more. According to David Trim and his survey nearly 15% read every her day. How many Great Controversy books got handed out? Why not something isn’t weird Ellen like steps to Christ there’s a balance and to me sometimes it appears out of whack.

@@karlmau7944 My experience was that you don't have to be read or be taught EGW from the pulpit, or to even have read any of her books in order to be completely exposed to her worldview (and lens on which to interpret scripture). If you attend sabbath school (infused with EGW commentary and interpretations), read any of the newsletters/pamphlets/articles, or even artwork (depicting Jesus as a Levitical priest), you'll gain the EGW worldview by default.

Try reading Desmond Fords book about Investigative Judgment. Interesting perspective from a former SDA theologian.
