Awesome vid, love the overlay with the button inputs and the fact that you replay it a few times with the stick view, input overlays, and an actual vid of the combo itself. Very helpful.
Fascinating. I don't even play Akuma and I sat through the whole thing. Great use of the editing and music. Everything came together really nice. Well done.
Excellent presentation and video editing, keep up the good work. This is by far the best SF4 combo video I have seen because it combines style with substance. Cheers.
Wow really nice video. One of the best, if not THE best, SFIV tutorial I've seen. Nice video effects and editing. Especially showing your hands doing the combos. Will help a lot of people :)
Thanks for the words, good to hear people appreciate it. I figured there had to be a bar set for combo videos, and not just have a bunch of combos that aren't explained.
I have to say this is a very well done video. I liked the clips of your hands to show how you're doing the motions. I don't play Akuma myself, but just recently got a stick so that portion was really helpful. The editing was top notch and really added to the video as a whole, I look forward to your next installment.
Thanks, I never thought of doing that, I'll try it. Needless to say your video is just great, and I also read your guide which is geart as well. I am an akuma player myself and I hope I will reach your level one day :)
@Septimius More damage. the HP SRK damage is divided over three hits, and since each hit in a combo scales the damage, the 1 hit of the LP SRK does more overall damage, and scales the combo less. It also allows the 3-hit HP Shaku to connect. If you did the HP Shaku after the third hit of an HP SRK the fireball would only hit one time due to juggle properties.
Thanks for the encouragement, took a hell of a lot of time to make this sucker. Still have another half to do, but I'm taking a couple days off from editing! haha.
@jamheald yeah 1 frame links can be tough, akuma's close stand jab to sweep, fireball fadc standing roundhouse, and roundhouse loop are all 1-frame links.
Yes it's worth it. Because of juggle count if you do a hp srk cancelled on the third one of the fireball hits will miss if you do this after a lk tatsu 2 will mis, without a tasu the most damaging fadc fireball is using the mp srk. I would think 3 lps is for ease of use and the fact they can be chained into a true block string if blocked or you can easily link (without moving your finger) the third for a cancel. Hope this helps answers your question.
@lordofultima im still learning akuma and the fightstick itself now but you do a great job of making akuma look like a badass in this video.. one question how long did it take you to fully adapt to the fightstick? i feel like a beginner with my fightstick
Well, I rewired the buttons on the inside of the stick to as follows: LB X Y RB LT A B RT This makes a hell of a lot more sense for the layout, and this way I can use the default "controller A" configuration, but be using all 6 straight buttons...aka: LB = (3P) X = (LP) Y = (MP) RB = (HP) LT = (3K) A = (LK) B = (MK) RT = (HK)
@ZankuuHadouken If you're pulling it off the traditional way (F, D, DF + PUNCH) Then I suggest after the forward input, you make a mental note to release the stick momentarily so it can return to neutral. It happens very fast of course but minute adjustments like this can help a lot.
Great videos man! One question: do you need any special feature or condition on your PC to make the madcatz fightstick work ? I haven, bought one yet , but I´m planning to get one as capcom is going to make the Arcade Edition for PC, and wanted to make sure it´s going to work well...
@LiftEatSleep The roundhouse has like one extra start-up frame, it's a bit upsetting but it won't change too much, just no loop. As for Ultra II, it can go to hell if I can't combo into it. I just wanted an ultra that was combo-able, otherwise it's sort of useless.
Nice, none of that 2 fadc into so many links of jabs and shorts that they become almost meaningless due to damage scaling. Good vid. I got a question for you though, I recently made the transition from 3rd strike, in which I also played akuma. The main difference I feel is the timing on the links, would you equate it to being like timing the inputs like parrying in 3rd strike? Or is there a difference in timing depending on the combo and I would have to just feel it out for each one?
Hey, first off, great video, thanks so much for making it. It was super-helpful! Question - In Arcade Edition, do you know if it's still possible to connect Far Roundhouse to low jab? I can't seem to do it anymore in AE, but in Super at my friend's place I have no problems.
Double-tapping is to help expand the timing window that you have to hit your links properly. I'd first recommend learning the combo rhythms without double-tapping, and then add it to your arsenal afterward.
Hey loltima, I'm just wondering if you could explain double tapping to me. Does it essentially give you an extra input frame so you can link your combos easier? You make it look so simple...
Just a question about how you perform your Focus Dash Cancels. It seems to me, when I see your fingers moving, that you press the Focus attack twice. For example to do a High punch canceled into hadoken FADC high punch again, you push : Hp - hadoken - FA - Dash - FA - Hp. Or it seems. Is there a reason why you do that ?
I don't really think of it that way so much, I just do it immediately after I hit HP. maybe I am actually doing it this way, but canceling is pretty lenient.
Well, that's completely accidental, but it still works nonetheless, hence why I just noted it as "fierce punch" in the video. Double tapping I do about half the time, I showed it both ways just for people to get a feeling for the timing of both.
Indeed for fireball focus cancels I hit focus twice, it's just a mental thing -- it works better for my muscle memory and was how I overcame timing issues with FADC combos. I basically just hit f+MP+MK, f+MP+MK. It works out good because I think the first MP+MK is actually too early to cancel, so in actuality the game thinks I'm dashing and hitting focus with the second forward input.
learning akuma has been one of the most difficult things i have done in gaming... with akuma you always have to be on point because if you make 1 or 2 mistakes you are going to get dizzied im going to stick with him as long as i can but i dont know how many more bad loses i can take with him.. but in the right hands he has by far and away the best offense on the game
I don't double tap too much, just did it for the sake of demonstration in this video. Combos are perfectly fine without double-tapping or plinking. As for the time, dude I just woke up at like 2am. Haha.
One of the reasons I love play as akuma is the badass combos. Great editing on this videos. That weak shoryu after weak tatsu gave nightmares, I just can't do it, unless if I mash the shoryu, but that make focus cancel miss. Any tips? My timing on that part is horrible. I use homemade arcade stick. Thanks in advance.
Very informative. I'm honestly impressed. Most combo videos are just showcasing the skills of the uploader. This one actually teaches. I don't suppose you'd be wiling to do this for other chars? I see you have quite the focus on Akuma given the nature of your other videos.
The reason keys aren't put in order is only because typewriters would get locked up because a lot of widely used letters were right next to each other. There is no ergonomic sense behind the keyboard layout of today. Some people prefer arched buttons, but it's still jab strong fierce, short forward roundhouse either way. I'm American, straight layout ftw.
for some reason i'm finding getting the timing right on HP cancelled to Fireball FADC to HP very difficult.. as well as Fireball FADC to standing HK.. these seem to be the most important links for akuma as they really allow his combos to evolve to the next level, do you have any comments/advice on these in particular?
@BUDDAz1g If they are crouching and blocking, your best bet is to frame trap them and end it with a fireball to be safe. If you hit a crouching opponent with anything but a c.fp they will remain crouched, so what you do is OS c.lk, c.lp, c.mp, fireball, FADC from fireball hit confirm, c.fp (to stand them up) then BnB from there.
Wassup dude. Love all your vids. Akuma has always been my favorite character next to Ken. I'm having a hard time landing the HP Shaku after LP SRK FADC. It always comes out too late to hit. I figure this is an important combo to get down. Any adivce on the timing?
hi i have just been testing what we spoke about and you are right,a tatsu can follow a shaku midscreen but only if they are both ex,probably a waste of meter i suppose.one last question if you have time,no one seems to let all 3 hits of akumas dp connect before cancelling,i have not studied the damage scaling but surely it increases the damage with the extra 2 meaty hits, you still get 2 hits from the following shaku when all 3 dp hits connect? thanks
I double-tap in this video plenty of times, just pay attention. As for plinking, there is a little plinking demonstration in part two of my Raging Demon tutorial.
On your sHP-FB-FADC-HP-QCB LK-HP SRK combo the second hp you did was crouching also with all other variations you threw a cHP in there somewhere just throwing it out there. I'm kinda OCD like that.
quick question for somme reason i cant combo crouching short x3 to tatsu i have tried slowing down and speeding up i and just cant do it consistently any tips
The problem is that the file is 650 MB running @ 10 MBPS. I wanted to make sure it had the least amount of artifacts as possible, so the processing will probably take a while.
hi nice vids ,keep it up,i just learnt you can do ex tatsu staraight after an b+b combo ending in fadc shakanetsu,i don't think i have seen this in your vids,is it something you use? thanks.
The first two attacks of any of those three hit links don't need to be linked...you only need to link the last hit regardless. But it's good habit to link every attack. jab x3 is personally harder than jab jab strong for me.
@LiftEatSleep If you can't do it from LP SRK I wouldn't recommend doing it at all, due to juggle properties and damage scaling, you aren't going to get but a sliver of damage more. You can only get so many hits on your opponent once they've left the ground, so you want the LP SRK since it does the most damage in one hit, and it will allow the shaku to hit 3 times instead of 1 (like after an HP SRK).
Your videos are amazingly done and well-edited, and they're also one of the reasons why I finally took the jump and ordered my stick.
Bravo.
Awesome vid, love the overlay with the button inputs and the fact that you replay it a few times with the stick view, input overlays, and an actual vid of the combo itself. Very helpful.

okay, can i just say WHOA!
perfect editing and music, what more to say about the combos? Perfect !!!
just great, keep it up!
Thanks for the words, good to hear people appreciate it. I figured there had to be a bar set for combo videos, and not just have a bunch of combos that aren't explained.
Your videos Akuma has been my study reference! Great job
I have to say this is a very well done video. I liked the clips of your hands to show how you're doing the motions. Excellent video; great use of video editing for both aesthetic and information purposes, bravo!
Nice work, it's not easy to find quality instructing vids like this. Keep up the good stuff.
Most helpful Akuma combo video out there, mad respect.
Wow, this was amazing. Really informative and really well put together!
This is some REALLY nice video editing.
Great Akuma stuff too.
Thanks, I never thought of doing that, I'll try it. Needless to say your video is just great, and I also read your guide which is geart as well. I am an akuma player myself and I hope I will reach your level one day :)
Dude one of the best combo vids I have seen.
Very nice work, must have taken you some time.
5* bro, and much respect.

Love your vids man, this is def the best guide ive seen.
If editing was an art, and tutorials paid, you'd be the richest damn DaVinci ever :) You've earned a sub.
The video editing you do is godlike...
love the editing, and just a great video tutorial man, thanks allot !!
just learning akuma so
Hi Lordofultima. Your videos are fantastic, can you do a gouken 101 series in usf4.
love ryus face on the slow mos and pauses.
really nice vid, awesome editing (and akuma skillzzzzzz)
nicest combo video ive seen of any sf4 vids, wish this existed for bison or sagat ;<
nice job
these vids are pure awesomness :)
Thank you ^^

WOW this is a great vid good quality and good effects. THNX for the upload.
beautifully put together ! well done.
Dude ur videos are super nice. I luv it!!!!
Great vids, helpfull and informative.
Yeah, I throw in c.HP's by accident sometimes. Precisely why I labeled it fierce punch, and not standing fierce. Still works.
lovew what you've done with the vid man .. amazing :D
@lordofultima im still learning akuma and the fightstick itself now but you do a great job of making akuma look like a badass in this video.. one question how long did it take you to fully adapt to the fightstick? i feel like a beginner with my fightstick
Your videos are pure art.

well done video - best sf4 combo video on the net
Cool. I got this song too.
Oh it is nice to have a bit more leisurely fadcing after playing cammy with the spike ultra and the one frame drill fadc links.
@LiftEatSleep The roundhouse has like one extra start-up frame, it's a bit upsetting but it won't change too much, just no loop.
As for Ultra II, it can go to hell if I can't combo into it. I just wanted an ultra that was combo-able, otherwise it's sort of useless.
i got mad respect for anyone who can do the raging demon on reaction using a pad

keep em coming!
great akuma vids very useful for scrubs starting out. what do you use to edit your videos that are really good
I love this video!~!! Keep up the good work!!!
thanks for the vids man i just started maining akuma and this helps alot
Excellent Excellent Excellent. The perfect tutorial
Computer is having problems atm, I might lose the footage I have for the second half and have to re-record it. Not really sure.
Very well made and insightful to Akuma : )
@lordofultima thank a lot for the info never would have thought of trying that
Hey loltima, I'm just wondering if you could explain double tapping to me. Does it essentially give you an extra input frame so you can link your combos easier? You make it look so simple...
This was uploaded in HD right? RUclips takes ages lol
The little PiP helps alot with timing, so thanks again! Editing was too sick! Keep it up!

@lordofultima but in SSFIV damage is not scaled by the number of "hits" in a combo but by the number of "moves"
I respect this video. I want to fight more people with your skill like this online.
Could you make a video on FAFC like tips on mastering I'm having a little trouble. Thank you.
learning akuma has been one of the most difficult things i have done in gaming... with akuma you always have to be on point because if you make 1 or 2 mistakes you are going to get dizzied im going to stick with him as long as i can but i dont know how many more bad loses i can take with him.. but in the right hands he has by far and away the best offense on the game

sorry if im asking a dumb question
why do u use light DP then FADC?
why not a heavy one?
wouldnt that do more damage?

Thank you very much for your answer, dude.
Just out of curiosity, what set up is your stick? Like, sanwa buttons and stick? Is it square gate or octo gate?
Please, it would be appreciated.
I've been hoping to get a fighting stick to practice, I'm good with keyboard but when I go to the arcade center to play I suck a lot.
I double-tap in this video plenty of times, just pay attention.
As for plinking, there is a little plinking demonstration in part two of my Raging Demon tutorial.
What's that technique you do with your fingers? btw, what kind of joystick do you use, I like it.
What do you think this is recorded on? Both the PS3 and 360 fightsticks work on PC.
of the links you have shown that use lp or lk to initiate the link, which is the easiest to pull off or most lenient on input timing?
Thanks
On your sHP-FB-FADC-HP-QCB LK-HP SRK combo the second hp you did was crouching also with all other variations you threw a cHP in there somewhere just throwing it out there. I'm kinda OCD like that.

All vid and combo info is listed in the sidebar as well, if you need to reference any combos that weren't explained so well.

I suppose, but I'm not going to throw out a standing fierce if they're crouching anyway, and they won't be able to crouch mid-combo.
also damn you're good at double at double tapping does it really help that much for links?
hi nice vids ,keep it up,i just learnt you can do ex tatsu staraight after an b+b combo ending in fadc shakanetsu,i don't think i have seen this in your vids,is it something you use? thanks.
