The tune is 'Aurelia', meaning 'golden, was composed by Samuel S. Wesley, originally as a tune for “Jerusalem the Golden”.

There is an old movie called "One Foot in Heaven," starring Frederic March, about a poor preacher and his family. He is always trying to build a new church and it never happens. At the end of the movie, we see him playing the Carillon in the new church tower and this is the hymn he plays as the movie ends. (Wipe tears, now.) So very lovely.

This hymn is about predestination and I love it.
We're not sure that we can agree. The use of the word 'elect' does not, in our view, indicate predestination. Samuel John Stone, who wrote it was a Church of England clergyman and there doesn't seem to be any suggestion that he believed in predestination. It is true that Anglicanism has been influenced by some strands of Calvinism but these have rarely included predestination to election.
Exactly...people deny affirming to the Doctrine of Predestination because of all the negative connotations attached to the Reformed doctrine or Calvinism...yet ironically, we find people agreeing to it because it's Biblical...staunch supporters of Armenian doctrine indirectly uphold Calvinist doctrine or Reformed theology...

I believe every soul born into this world is written in His Book of Life.. but if you believe not, you are blotted out.
We all very much have freewill and need to make a choice during our time here in this world. Why would anyone want to choose this world and it's lusts with the Holy Spirit of God (available) giving everlasting life (even now) to the world? Because deception abounds and the true Gospel is not manifested in believers. (See Philippians 2:15-16 & "becometh the gospel of Christ" ch.1; also 1 Peter 2:15)
Revelation 3:5 (KJV)
He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
Psalms 69:28 (KJV) Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous.

God has done all He can do without infringing upon our freewill, (Jesus has died for us!!) we must believe, because it's through faith and by faith we receive.

The world has always been appointed to stumble at the Word, but now we who believe (who were once of the world) are no longer confounded, it's actually a joy to please God now.. no longer being in the flesh. (See also Titus 3:3-6)
Romans 8:4 (KJV) That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Romans 8:9 (KJV) But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
These are my thoughts and conclusions from the scriptures along with personally experiencing the grace of God, and God showing me the truth from the scriptures.
Colossians 1:27-28 (KJV) 27 To whom God would make known what [is] the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: 28 Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:
Ephesians 4:13-14 (KJV) 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14 That we [henceforth] be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, [and] cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
(It's doesn't take long to grow up either, deceivers stunt genuine growth from God)

Ephesians 4:20-24 (KJV) 20 But ye have not so learned Christ; 21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Colossians 3:10 (KJV) And have put on the new [man], which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
Ephesians 3:16-17 (KJV) 16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; 17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts *by faith* ; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
Jude 1:3-4 (KJV) 3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort [you] that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. 4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ the Son of God (the only begotten) has come and destroyed the works of the Devil... but some don't want to be destroyed and even think God is pleased with their unregenerate life.
1 John 3:8-9 (KJV) 8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
1 Peter 1:22-23 (KJV) 22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, [see that ye] love one another with a pure heart fervently: 23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

I really love the Gospel.. but the world hates it unfortunately.
