Watched the canoehound livestream last night. My 3 brothers and I have been tripping for years and we love your videos and humour. As was mentioned I do enjoy going back to watch your stuff over again. You are a great ambassador of our country, taking care of the folks from Germany by giving them a map. We have done similar things over the years it seems to be the Canadian thing to do. Cheers!

So fantastic to have this great canoe adventure come on right after the drone footage for the French River Lodge. The lodge is still available and I will make sure to also share this cool video of your adventures on this gorgeous and rugged area of the North. Love it. This summer I must to the same!

Just stumbled on this video when looking for different people's trips to French River (trying to plan a route for this spring). This is an excellent job! Thanks!

Thanks Tim, the French is a really special place.
Water levels are really all over the map in spring but generally high... and COLD :-)

My wife and I tripped out of Hartley Bay last summer…where you turned south, we went north and then subsequently west up to Sturgeon Chutes. Do you have any sites that you especially liked (or didn't)?

Thanks! Yes the French is ideal for kayaking... very little portaging and lots of narrow finger lakes. More stability too if you are out to the bay in the wind.

Wow! What a surprise to find such a high quality video with so few views! What the heck? This is fantastic stuff man. I nearly hopped out of my seat when I saw your cedar strip canoe. Did you build yours? I'm currently in the middle of a build and hope to take it to the French River someday. It looks so beautiful up there. Well done on the video! Thank you for making this.

Thanks for the kind words Jake! I did not build the CJ. It was done by my uncle Richard about 50? yrs back. It was the first of many canoes and kayaks he made. His later works were more refined but this one has some character that's hard to ignore. Upon finishing it he sold it to an American cottager up in the 1000 Islands area. This fellow got very sick and the boat saw only a few days of use before it got stored under the mans cottage where it remained unused for 35 yrs. When the cottager had to move into a home, he contacted my uncle asking him if he wanted to buy it back for a nominal sum. I just happened to be talking to Richard at a family reunion and was mentioning that I was looking at solo boats... a couple days later it was strapped to the top of my car. :-). If I remember correctly he was asking $350 and I gave hime $400. Deal.
You will enjoy paddling the French! The whole Georgian Bay thing is pretty amazing.

Such a cool story! Thanks for taking the time to type that up, it was a fun read. Yes, hopefully some day I will get the chance to paddle up there. For now, I'm literally putting on another strip right after I post this reply, haha! Gotta get the canoe done before I can paddle it ;) Take care, and thanks for the video!

This is actually from spring 2014... but I am hoping to be out on the water by this Friday!
I'm not sure where yet with the ice holding on but this week of warmth will melt most of it I hope.

+Tumblehome This was just a tease, then. Those birds of spring have just shown up here on my little bit of coastal Maine woods. We have some similar granite rocky waterways, but not to the extent the providential park has. A beautiful environment.
Some shots looked like drone footage? Just a go pro, though?

I've been out fishing for trout a few times this spring, nothing biting, yet, I presume the water is on the cold side in the brooks and stream. Looking for the alders buds to start to unfold as a good sign of when trout start to work. We had ice out on most lakes in late February this year, very mild winter yet the spring has been on the cooler side.

      downeast primitive skills
I like to wait until they get into their holes and the water comes down to normal levels. Then they tend to be easier to track down. At least in the creeks.

Has the inflammation and symptoms calmed down that you were going thru? I just got into trying my own Infrared treatments. I have a few injuries that has not healed and they are responding. Its early yet and still a bit skeptical. Maybe something to look into, worth a shot and it can be made in home inexpensively. I know where to get the hardware locally after making several mistakes ordering outside Canada.

I'm trying all manner of things, and still trying to nail down exactly what it is.
Symptoms are much better than a year ago thats for sure. Still have some arthritis issues, muscle twitching and some fatigue but nothing like before... feeling like I'm about 90 %. Has it run its course? In remission? My immune system dealing with it?
I've heard of IR for Lyme and similar issues, I'll read up some more.

+Tumblehome ... Glad to hear you are improving, such a nasty thing to catch from a bug, some people never recover. well here is the search I made to find the hardware. I got the lamps at Home Hardware for 18 bucks, I had to order them in, took a week. (Brooder lamp with clamp) used for keeping baby chicks warm. I looked everywhere else. Online from the states would have been 30 plus. The Lights, I got 2 from ebay and 2 from Amazon, exchange and duty was not cheap. Stumbled into a local farm store - Minor Bros in Niagara-On-The-Lake and the same lights that I ordered were about 12 bucks(Philips). I went in the store for a lamp. The lamp they had is of high quality compared to the home hardware ones. I ordered one lamp from China and its still not here, nearly 2 months now. Pet stores have them but are expensive and cannot handle the wattage.
So to make your own sauna locally with 4 lights and 4 lamps is about 150 bucks. Find a space to make a larger closet basically and you can have a sauna, instead of paying thousands. Lights need to be 250 watt, red near infrared not far infrared. Lamps need to be able to handle them and have a ceramic base. Lot of info online about the do's and dont's. I make no money on this nor claim it does anything just trying it to be proactive. Sorry about rambling on, hope things progress for you. If you want more info please do ask, maybe I will make a video when I complete my sauna. I am just using the lights clipped onto a coat rack in my basement washroom. Real hi-tech eh.

Yes! Did a solo in the Spring (I was so happy to be back out on the water) and then an Aug trip with a friend and our kids and one more Sept run with same friend minus the kids.
