  • When you get to the point of going through with a total hip replacement, chances are you’ve been struggling with years of pain. Your body adopts movement patterns to protect that area, and just because you had surgery doesn’t make those Neuro-motor patterns disappear.

I’ve been working through video consultations with a good friend of mine who lives far away to help her get back to where she wants to be. Ski season is coming up, and we’ve got to get her ready.

There is no one thing, one set of exercises, or one procedure that will fix a person's pain. Our lives and our bodies and our minds are too complex for one size fits all.
The videos I post are meant to meet people where they are and not a prescription to follow.
In my 30 years as a Physical Therapist, I've seen patterns and found ways to explain pain that resonates with a lot of people. I share these videos not to pretend there is one solution to every issue, but in the hopes that someone who needs this one will find it.

this video popped up in my feed and I'm so thankful it did. Your video is a blessing because I struggle with my gait 6 weeks after bilateral total hip replacement. I believe these excercises will help my left leg which had more work done than the right. My therapist is always getting on me about my limp and upper body sway. 39 years of walking like that, now I have to develop a new walk. It's harder than I imagined. Thank you! God bless!

Wow! You had the same situation, I have now . I need a replacement on my right hip ( weak muscles ) and my left leg is
shorter than my right leg .
When my PT would stretch my legs , both legs are the same size, this time it was May 2024 .
I was told my left legs 5/8 inch shorter ( this was years ago , when I went to Pt back in 2021 ) .
I truly feel , the PT in 2021 , wasn't much of any help , because if they would have given me exercises, like the ones in this Video , I would be walking normal . I also feel doctors, PT aren't as good in this region where I live , I noticed a lot of
bad advise to patients in this region. Glad my Orthopedic surgeon is in the next state.

I lay on the bed, my spouse will take both of my heels raise them up and slightly pull them and it feels so good.
He's not rough with me , just enough to dug alittle and that's it . That's exactly what my Second PT taught my spouse
to do ,when I'm at home , and it was only done 2 times, and that's it . That's been over 2 months now .

It’s been 5 months since my hip surgery and I’ve started putting 100% weight on it for about a month now.
I still have a little bit of a limp and I feel like my physical therapy session are not really working out for me. I still can’t lift my leg as much nor can I hold my leg up for a long time.
I’ve been in physical therapy for about 5 months and honestly I only see a little change. Most of my friends who had hip surgery are walking fine 3 months post op and I’m quite worried since I’ll be attending my next college semester on campus this time.
I will be trying this out!! If you can give me a bit more tips I would very much appreciate it!

    Hey, Hope you're doing great.
My Dad is 54 years old. It has been 50-55 days since his total hip replacement surgery. He met with an accident which completely destroyed his left hip bone and had to get an implant.
50 days after the surgery :- He can walk for long now with the help of a stick but limping isn't going away. How long do you reckon it is going to take for limping to go away. The Physio tells that his both legs are of same size after the surgery but still as of now he ain't able to walk normaly.
    Thanks.
