I always find it funny how 1979 (with a mediocre 9-7 record) was the season that they FINALLY made it to the Super Bowl after years of being one of the best teams only to fall short.

As huge Ram fans my brother and I had suffered through all those exciting yet frustrating seasons of the 70's. We thought we were staring down another playoff loss to Dallas in '79. When Ferragamo hit Waddy for the winning touchdown, we took one look at each other, ran across the room and slammed together so hard I broke my brother's glasses. It may have been the single most, simultaneously shocking and thrilling moment in my life as a sports fan.

40+ years later, I still get emotional watching the highlights. We were 8-1 against Pittsburgh going in to that game, & losing a 4th quarter lead just adds salt to the wounds. The most unlikeliest team of all those divisional winners to finally make it that far is bittersweet. We'll get the monkey off of our backs this year & overlap the Raiders' fluky championship in L.A. This is our year. Horns up!!!!!!!

The 7th time was the charm for these Rams.
After losing so many times playoffs, it was the season in which they played the worst, that they finally landed in the Super Bowl.
Coming after an off season in which the owner died.
They suffered an avalanche of injuries.
Those injuries should have finished the supposedly gutless chockers from Hollywood.
But, they summoned up the heart no one thought they had,
    and accomplished something great.
This team is a testament to courage, perseverance, and pure guts.
    They never quit.

*Rams franchise was in St. Louis, Missouri at the time; in 2016, the Rams returned to Los Angeles
If you put 2+2 together, you know the difference that the Rams made it to the Super Bowl, but lose to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Pasadena.... But then Rams host the Super Bowl in Inglewood and beat the Cincinnati Bengals in February 2022.....
However the 1979 Rams, despite of hard times throughout most of the season; pulled it together and win the National Football Conference Champions....
That's the history, but comeback kids (1979 Rams) are the true survivors of the regular season package....

For some strange reason the rams always played the Steelers tough back then even beating the Steelers 10-7 and 10-3 in 1978 and 1975… the Steelers were all time 0-14-1 against the rams before Super Bowl 14…. But steelerswin this game no matter what. Steelers won even with Wagner and ham not playing in the game and swann not playing in the 4th quarter and the Steelers overcame 3 bradshaw interceptions and bud carson being the DC for the rams where he was with the Steelers the previous 7 years. Plus joe Greene was only at 65% playing capacity due to his pinched nerve… Steelers won. Rams lost. Heck even Tampa bay only lost 9-0 during the ncf championship game…. Steelers would have not list this game no matter what
