For all the Westerners confused about 1971 (and why Indians don't trust American). There were two Pakistan's back then. West Pakistan and East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). West Pakistan started atrocities against the people of East Pakistan and to ensure India doesn't intervene attacked India using tanks. Pakistan was militarily superior to India back then. Anyways, through some really smart & brave generals (e.g. India flooded the sugarcane fields along the border with water overnight and majority of Pakistani tank brigade got stuck in the mud) India was winning the battle. Pakistan and US were friends back then. US ignored all the atrocities of West Pakistan and sent the 7th fleet in the bay of bengal (i.e. India) to threaten India to back off. India did not have many friends back then - it was the Russian who came to help India back then. They asked US to back off or they would get involve in the war. Ever since that day, US stopped supplying weapons to India and armed Pakistan to the teeth till Mr Laden came visiting. Anyways, long story short, Indians and Elephants have long memories. Indians are not going to let 1971 slide that easily - at least not until the current generation is around.

There were two Pakistan's back then. West Pakistan and East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). West Pakistan started atrocities against the people of East Pakistan and to ensure India doesn't intervene attacked India using tanks. Pakistan was militarily superior to India back then. Anyways, through some really smart & brave generals (e.g. India flooded the sugarcane fields along the border with water overnight and majority of Pakistani tank brigade got stuck in the mud) India was winning the battle.
Pakistan and US were friends back then. US ignored all the atrocities of West Pakistan and sent the 7th fleet in the bay of bengal (i.e. India) to threaten India to back off. India did not have many friends back then - it was the Russian who came to help India back then. They asked US to back off or they would get involve in the war.
Ever since that day, US stopped supplying weapons to India and armed Pakistan to the teeth till Mr Laden came visiting.
