Bijan Taghavi Trio LIVE 5/17/24 @ Ravenscroft (Scottsdale, AZ), featuring:

This is a timeless classic and one of the most popular Bossa Nova standards that Antonio Carlos Jobim wrote. We weren't initially planning on playing this tune this tour, but Luther heard my solo piano recording of "Wave" (which you can hear here: • "Wave" (Solo Piano) ) and said 'this is a nice performance, BUT I don't think those are the original chord changes.' So Luther sent me the original chord changes to this tune, and we played it a few nights later during this special performance in Scottsdale, AZ at the Ravenscroft along with the great Dom Moio on drums.
The difference between the original chord changes and the standard changes that most people play is a very interesting walkdown movement in the bridge (instead of a typical 2-5-1 Gmi7-C7-Fma7, it's C7sus -C/Bb-Ami7; and then same with the next 2-5-1 sequence, instead of Fmi7-Bb7-Ebma7 = Bb7sus-Bb/Ab-Gmi7).

His handwave dance was indeed hilarious… he actually called me yesterday to say how embarrassed he was about the hand dance, we had a great laugh about it. 😂
