@@manifestgtr I learnt more last night than I ever have since seeing this video. I knew alot of theory but never utilized or made sense of it until few hours ago. I was one of those guys who is familiar with instruments can play piano but at the level of not understanding n relying on muscle memory, but past few hours I been getting atleast to the point I can actually learn properly and make sense of progressions. I'm truly amazed 👏. Now I'm beginning to understand how to actually play and see what chords fit finally for cadences. Finally understand the chord families atleast at the level I can actually practice constructively. Been experimenting in a practicle manner and having atleast some success finally. Also my melodies and basslines are already a bit more practicle fitting the groove for once. Trying to not just play random stuff till one note works then trying everything till another note fits, now I'm beginning to realize the melody comes out naturally and fit better than just pick8ng a note that isn't needed but atleast doesn't sound horrible. My beats in the past where lacking a motive and just randomly added notes that even if they fit they didn't belong. Now I don't even add as much but one or 2 notes played in my improv seam to just compliment the peice alot better and I'm still brand new to this feeling. Feeling now that I can finally atleast come to understand chords and not just freestyle aimlessly till something works. A motive and well thought out understanding is beginning to fit my project 100 times better just off a few hours focused on cadence. Connecting all the dots for me and not overthinking but finally feeling the music ♥️ I'm not a musician but I do play instruments just havnt fully grasped how to improv and make sense of the little bit of theory I knew but now starting to actually understand now. Never thought about cadence but now I get the chord numbers and why some are maj or min or diminished etc... I been forcing myself to stick to the chords of the key and letting that influence what chords I try to play together. Its so much more practicle, it's probably obvious stuff but I never knew that you can know what chords would fit together instead of trying mutkiple chords and getting nowhere and intimidated.. finally starting to think about proper progressions and learning to get used to them specifically instead of aimlessly trying improv untill fluking something that fits seldomly. I made 4 beats already that have logical progressions complimenting my sample and finding the melody is way easier and more effective just off of a few hours of looking in the right direction 🔥👌 not just relying on my sample to have a progression but adding my own to compliment a sample in a good way I used to spend hours and days until something worked out.. now I'm understanding and can maybe become a musician instead of just playing at that level of only knowing a few songs because muscle memory. I was alot better at guitar for chords but guitar is easy to improv chords even without understanding them so I pretty much still suck lol 😆

Playing an instrument can absolutely be meditative. Get yourself a keyboard or acoustic guitar and just doodle around with one idea like this for an hour, and it feels really good.
not strange. in many ways it is proven music to be very close to certain levels of meditations,if even getting close to be a kind of spiritual rituality

Made a pianist friend a few months ago and it's inspiring. They're no master but it made me appreciate the instrument so much and it made me pick up a MIDI keyboard at last to try and get a little good myself

I only recently learned the term "plagal cadence", and now I know the word for harmony technique I've known and loved for a long time. My favorite is the major IV followed by the minor IV.
Soothing, calming, steadying, assuring, comforting chords. I think you hit the right frequency for everybody! I actually listened to some of the really old classics- the popular stuff- it wasn't it for me. This is it! Is it frequency? It hits! ❤
This concept works great on pedal steel guitar, particularly when backing up a vocalist during a spoken word recitation, and can be played seamlessly out of a single position just by going through the pedal/lever changes.

I like how he says that the IVm(Bbm) is "gourgeous". Sometimes when we learn about music harmony, we tend to think that the most complex harmonic moves are "better" than the simple one, like the IVm, and forget the their musical value. Really great stuff, man! :)

Each one of these chords evoke a particular emotional feeling. The Bb/F is very solemn sounding. Very much a Gospel/Contemporary Christian vibe. The Bb min/F is more challenging. I bit mysterious. The C7/F has a JS Bach/Catholic Church kinda vibe. It is fun experimenting with slash chords like this!!
As a kid, I sat for hours at the end of my Fathers piano as he played with changing out chords, making regular standards far more interesting... Beautiful!
