I'm a marine scout sniper myself. MOS 0317 I joined the Corp from 2000 to 2007. The author's right, we use an M40 rifle. He was talking about 45-70. That is pretty much a literal Cannon made into a rifle. The size of the bullet is about 1 and 1/2 sizes bigger than your thumb
Old cartridge .45 cal with 70 grains of black powder. Hence the 45-70. For something that big in the swamp I don’t know why they didn’t go with something like a .50 Alaskan express or simply a 12 gauge with a rifled barrel and slugs.

I don't shoot it because looking long term capturing it is objectively the better decision, because we can more about it's habits and behaviors, as well as learn how it moves through an area allowing us to place agents in similar locales so that they can track one if it shows up BEFORE it kills anybody. Also, capturing it will give us a chance to learn why it killed those people, was it territorial, or maybe it was out of desperation from lack of food sources. This information is useful because then you can take proper measures to prevent this from happening again.

Lol it’s still a well done story- well narrated of course- but it would be great if the authors could maybe create more original material instead of recycling the same premises...
It's actually pretty hard to create original content. As a complete novice to the writing world but have dabbled in it. Original ideas are kinda like cars. You can make em look different, make em sound different. Paint them different colors. But at the end of the day they're all just engines with 4 wheels.

I live near Pearl River Louisiana and I can tell you right now this story is based off the honey island swamp monster. Theres never been any body’s recovered in that swamp with their skulls bashed in and their chests crushed but I can say there has been a lot of people go missing over the years in that swamp and never seen or heard from again.

Why? This was hot garbage. Mr. MarySue tundra tracker who somehow knows everything about swamps and is always the most useful, his clumsy damsel in distress love interest who doesn't want to hurt monsters, a sniper who forgets his weapon, a yokel with a boat who somehow stays with the "team" after they leave the swamp, and a desk jockey FBI agent. This was like a shitty homebrew DnD campaign where the DM uses his self insert NPC to drag the party around watching how great his OP character is.

Yeah...the inflection at the end of each sentence. Sounds contrived. Why not just read in a normal voice with good old common or garden inflection?
