Alligator pepper is usually crushed before use, in order to release its spicy aroma.
It is mainly used to flavor soups and stews. It has a very spicy flavor. It is also used to grill steak. In West Africa kebab is usually spiced with alligator pepper for that hot spicy taste.

In |West Africa, it grows in swampy areas with heavy rainfall. That is the major condition for it to thrive. I also know that it grows in some parts of Ethiopia. The plant loves the swampy rain-forest area best. After the initial planting it needs heavy rainfall. Those are the major conditions for successful growth. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
