Excellent presentation! I just learned of the Grain of Paradise/Alligator Pepper spice & wanted more info on the plant. Fortunately, I came across your video!! TY💓
I'm from the Caribbean, Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹. It's the very first time I'm hearing and seeing this. Always learning something new. Thank you 😊 Can this be grown in my country?
In Brazil it has a ritualistic use in the Candomblé and Umbanda religions, magical religions, we know it as African coastal pepper or ataré pepper, thank you for the video, it is a beautiful plant, I didn't know it. (No Brasil tem um uso ritualístico na religião Candomblé e na Umbanda, religiões magicas, conhecemos como pimenta-da-costa africana ou pimenta de ataré,obrigado pelo vídeo é uma planta bonita não conhecia.)
If you are trying it naturally in the sun it may take between 2 weeks and 1 month depending on how much sunshine it gets. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching 🙏
Wonders shall never end,I was watching about snake bite medicine & they talked about it use to treat it,to my in East Africa(Uganda)we just eat the inside but not grown, only find them in bushes.
Alligator pepper is usually crushed before use, in order to release its spicy aroma. It is mainly used to flavor soups and stews. It has a very spicy flavor. It is also used to grill steak. In West Africa kebab is usually spiced with alligator pepper for that hot spicy taste. Thanks for watching.
Is it the same plants that grows in the bushes? We have something that looks like that in Uganda but they grow in the bushes and we eat them, they are sweet
North Africa and the Middle East are big markets. West African has very high demand even as the plant is grown there. Where are you located? Thanks for watching.
Depends on where you are. In West Africa it is all over the place, in every market. It is also available in African shops in Europe and America. You can get it online. Thanks for watching.
Unfortunately you have to live close to an area where it is grown. Most people have not seen the fresh fruit or seeds because the drying process starts right there at the farm immediately after harvesting. You have to visit a farm. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.😃😃🙏
In Nigeria, the leading producer states include Ondo, Edo, Ogun, Anambra and Plateau states. I am sure if you get closer to these places or enquire from them, you will be able to get to the plant. Just like plantains, there are always baby plants growing around it. These are the rhizomes. You can just pull one out and replant. Thanks for watching.🙏
Babafemi. In Oyo State when l was growing up, it was pretty common in the local markets. Usually with sellers of medicinal plants like dogonyaro. This was back in the 80s, l don't know about now. The Yoruba people call it atare....Ata ire.
In |West Africa, it grows in swampy areas with heavy rainfall. That is the major condition for it to thrive. I also know that it grows in some parts of Ethiopia. The plant loves the swampy rain-forest area best. After the initial planting it needs heavy rainfall. Those are the major conditions for successful growth. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
