Nice episode, I love the subject. :) Maah, that is so typical for CBT practitioners. They are over repeating it like some kind of internet meme :D Anyway, to person that sent you that email: Research a little bit about problem of equifinality in psychotherapy and hypothesis that try to explain it and things like extratherapeutic factors. I love psychologist that think like you. I have one female professor that wrote amazing book about evaluation of psychotherapy and stuff you were talking here. Unfortunately for your listeners it is in Serbian language. Keep with this kind of stuff I guess other psychologist that listen to your podcast love it as much as I do. Good luck with that live event.
I really like what you have to say here, for the most part - the gist of it is spot on.. but I did want to just note that when it comes to language acquisition (at around 45:00), correct me if I'm wrong but, Chomsky was right, not the behaviourists like Pinker.. unless you were talking specifically about speaking with a certain accent..?
After several approaches, I found it beneficial to practice yoga with a healthy sense of humor, self patience and outward compassion. I have to align life as I understand it regularly, yet I still see where I fail. I hope to fail well. It creates an openness that Feels genuine, not prescribed, or contrived. Yoga is not self improvement, it is self examination. It ain't for sissies.
I wonder, do you know Lacan and his psychoanalysis? He is really big here in Latin America. He rejects wholly all theories exposed here, including the psychoanalytic ones. Even if they worked that would be worse because he rejects their ideal of mental health as oppressive.
Thanks for taking on this topic, Kirk.
