Can you please tell me what kind of communication protocol does the Embed Card Reader use, to update credits? I was planning to integrate it with a microcontroller and it would be possible if it use a serial communication to update credits. Thank you for making this video, it really helps a lot!
On the wireless end, to the server to update it on the card, I do not know. But for the connection from the game to the reader, it does not use a protocal. It just connects credit signal to credit ground to make the game have a credit. And the game sends a pulse for every ticket sent out, and the reader sends a pulse back to the game for every ticket received. The game will still think it owes tickets if it does not receive this acknowlagement pulse. One of the pulses is called drive and the other is called notch. In the video I use the test rig to show how when the reader sends a credit. The button lights up for that credit pulse. Then when testing tickets, pressing the button simulates the game sending pulses to the reader for tickets. And oh glad it helped! Thanks for saying so.
I do know it uses wifi (G) to connect to the network then connect to the server, but you need to have the Embed POS software and an account with Embed to actually use this system, as far as I know anyway. It seems like its a software as a service setup for businesses.
@@the_psychedelic_lucario I am currently designing an arcade game machine and i have already done 80%of the coding. The only thing holding me up is the game credit system. I was planning to use the programmable coin acceptor (which works by sending a 5v pulse to the game) but someone who works at an arcade game zone told me that they have already moved on from the coin era. She told me that the only way they even consider adding my game to their collection is, if I can change the coin acceptor with the card reader. So basically, if the card reader also sends out pulse signals to the game, there is a high chance that it communicates ,with the game, the same way as the coin acceptor do. I only have to figure out the voltage of that pulse signal. I hope it's 5v, is it?🤞
@user-zv2vo7qq3y Oh wow! Thats awesome! What kind of arcade game are you making? And yeah if your game works with a regular coin mech, it will work with the reader. Thats kind of crazy that they will not accept the game without a card reader instead of coin mech, since all the arcade games from the large companies all come with coin mech, and if they put out tickets, a ticket mech. The reason I think thats really crazy is that it depends on what system they are using for their collection. They might not even be using Embed card readers, since there are other companies, or they may be using a different model of card reader. So you should not have to put one on there yourself. But it does make sense to tesr if it really works with it. But, at the same time, you will not be able to even boot the card reader all the way up without a connection to that POS software. I guess you could just quickly touch your game's credit signal to ground, and that should credit the game. Maybe just dont give them a coin mech with it?
I am making my own arcade in my town and really want to replace the coin inserter to start the game with a card reader becouse in my country no one uses coins anymore. Hope this vid helps
@Radiantcompany You may want to think about that a little differently. These card readers do not read actual financial credit or debit cards. They read cards that your arcade puts credits on when a customer buys them. The coin acceptors work the same way, except they can take actual currency, or you can make them take tokens and sell tokens to the customers as the credits.
How do you decide if you're going to nerf a game? Most small arcades will usually nerf a game once they find out someone wins a PS5 for $200. Dave and Busters is one of the few good arcades that lets you win at a profit and changes nothing.
@@JetHawk Ah okay. So we have had to do that for some games that put out way too much, and claw machines that were too easy. But still nobody could win a PS5 for $200, unless they saved up like crazy. When I worked there, a PS4 or Xbox one were 80,000 tickets. They were more like an unreachable goal than reality.
@@mylesevarts I think the wiring harness comes with each reader. Ours did in a big box when we ordered more readers from Embed. That is the only special wiring needed.
So that is something I haven't done before, but I know the color of the LEDs is associated with the group the game is in, in the Guru POS software. You can set the color of that group, but I have not seen it myself.
@Robotz Life Oh I'm glad you like them, but I do not own them. You will have to contact Embed and get them to set up your POS. You also need their POS software running on your system to use one of these readers.
@Robotz Life Oh if you make the little setup that I showed in this video and simply hold down the ticket button, the scanner will continuously add tickets to a game card, but you have to have access to a reader that is connected to the arcades POS system.
@Robotz Life Well thank you! It is not my arcade, I just work here. They ordered them from embed. You have to have an account with them, and be the one running the arcade. You need access to the POS system to be able to add a reader to the system. You can't just buy a reader if you arent a business, from embed anyway and take it to a random arcade and expect it to connect to their system.
Hello. Have you worked with EMBED equipment RAD-002, EI-WIR-180, EI-CON-100 & cardreader EI-SHR-01? I need help setup. The company refused to support & help me, and offered to buy new equipment. There is no information in the Internet on setting up the equipment.
The fact that Embed support (old and new hardware) has been absolutely unhelpful is the big reason why our FEC switched to a new system. It's likely gonna be extremely difficult.
Hi, I did not work with setting up the network or POS system. That was done before I got there. However, it is weird that they wont support you. We have had them come out to our site multiple times for help, especially with the self service kiosks.
Definitely! Thanks for watching! The LEDs color can be changed in the Guru software on the POS, but I have not done it myself. I think its about the catagories the games are in, and you can associate a color to each catagory
@the_psychedelic_lucario are you able to set the reader to just 'check balance' and 'give tokens' modes? (Check balance readers are to show the players balance and ticket balance, etc and give tokens is for those token action games when a game has a coin dispenser installed)
Do you allow advantage players at your arcade? I can win a Nintendo switch OLED for about $120 in two business days. Is that accounted for in your business? Then resell before for $300 but I probably rather be an arcade manager and just make $100k year.
What is an advantage player? Its not my arcade, I only work there sometimes. We dont have any Nintendo Switches left for prizes as far as I am aware. Seriously good luck on getting that many tickets also. And no you wouldnt! They certainly do not make that much just to be the manager. Maybe the owner.
@@the_psychedelic_lucarioadvantage player is someone who profits at the arcade. Like wins enough jackpots to win a prize under retail and could flip for profit.
@@the_psychedelic_lucario Well at other arcades I can win a $300-$350 prize for around $100. I've seen other small mom and pop arcades that had a $500 Xbox Series X for 400k-500k tickets. But it's not worth it, you could only "win" the Xbox for retail price at 100% jackpots. At least they're realistic and better hope customers won't realize they could only "win" the Xbox for the same cost at the store. But this is why I recommend customers to support Dave and Busters they give the best return for the average customer compared to most arcades.
@JetHawk Well I know they had a PS4 in the case for 80k tickets. Even though the PS4 is outdated. By my calculation, 1 ticket is half a penny. So that would put it right around $400
Yes, I am pretty sure you can. Just make both credit signals from coin mech and reader connect to the games credit signal input wire and it should work. I think there are also wires on the embed harness that have something to do with it as another way, but I have never tried that.
Thank you for your response sir... I have PIXEL CHASE and i want to change into paperless... just in other games that the price count directly save into card
@rodolffrancisco3050 Okay so does your game have a 4 pin molex style connector connected to the back of the ticket mechanism? Either way, if the game is still putting out paper tickets, you need to unplug the connector on the back of the ticket mech. The embed reader wiring harness comes with a connector that mates with that connector, and if you have a match, you will not need to do any wiring besides plugging that in, and plugging in the square 9 pin UCL connector. Be advised that sometimes that connector has wires for tickets. But I have seen where it does not.
