Flowmaster Hushpower HP-2
Part #12518409
2.5” inlet/outlet
Moderate sound (they claim) Авто/Мото
Flowmaster is the last muffler you want to get if you want to quiet it down lol.
i had a flowmaster original 40 series on my pickup and it sounded just about stock.
@@benjamincruz514 yeah same
The chambered 2 chamber or race one chamber are pretty loud without cats and long tube headers but l now have Flowmaster Flow FX box style mufflers and it's much more quite at idle to 2800rpm but has a real crisp solid clean performance sound 2800rpm up without any popping or crackling when slowing down with your foot off the gas petal got complements at the track with how it sounded in the burnout box and going down the track by numerous people
Flowmaster has a large spectrum of mufflers that range from loud to quiet. The super 10 being the loudest and the 50 series being quiet. The hushpower is in between.
@Hayden Storm My 85 C30 dually has factory duals with Super 10 mufflers. Supposedly, they're on there to help improve the mileage on the 454.
I believe the glasspack style mufflers are designed to be loud out of the exhaust, but reduce the sound in the interior of your vehicle.
Almost spot on! they really only exist to reduce cabin drone and low rpm noise.
Thank you! You sold me on the Flowmaster HP2 "quiet version"
Hope the video helped
Add a H pipe, and runs the tailpipe tips straight out the back, makes it quieter in the cab.
Also the FlowFX is quieter than these (the oval case anyways) they're a Magnaflow copy, try those.
I had the same issue when I put a ls in a 1994 chevy 1500 I put a resonator in and that made a big difference still sounds good but not deafening.
Great channel always been a fan ✌
Thanks for watching
@@atpmonstergarage welcome
Finally found the sound im looking for! This would sound amazing with my 78 camaro 454 10.1 with a mild cam
I bet they would sound good on that
@@atpmonstergarage what year of seats are those?
@@hunterb3386 they look like the original bucket seats, which I think are the same in the blazer. I ordered my 78 BIG10 new and looked at one on the dealership lot that had buckets but I didn’t like the back of the cab behind the seat, it looked unfinished so I ordered the bench seat.
How did well did it fit for clearance? I have a 1978 Trans Am.
I have a 94 k1500 with a blueprint 383 stroker and I'm going to buy these Flowmasters after watching this.
Don't know what all you do but the planes in the background and working on a chevy hits home. I'm an amt and Avionics tech at Endeavor air. Love this video.
Our shop is lucky enough to be at the Vernon airport bid you check the channels section we have 3 other channels. One that shows all the airplanes and helicopters around this airport. It’s a wonderful place to be!!!
sounds very healthy and crisp!
This is what I needed thank you!! I have the same Brand headers on my SBC in my 87' MCSS think imm going to go with these 😁
Excellent. I’m always happy when one of my videos helps someone
@@atpmonstergarage I actually just Ordered 2 of the 12" 3" in 3" out Pro Series HPs. I'll upload mine maybe when I get it on lol
I recently put a large glass-pack muffler on my truck, and it's quieter now than with a Flowmaster Super 44. The one I used was an AP Xlerator. It's a straight through design so it flows well, but not objectionable at all. Seems to run better than with the Flowmaster.
Road Kill test showed the Cherry bombs made more power
@@drumrooster Cherry bombs made more power than what? The Flowmaster 44 or the AP glass-pack? I liked the Flowmaster sound, but I like the way the truck runs with the glass-pack, too.
love the sound of the delta 40s
Sounds real sweet I believe that was the way to go best choice that truck for some nice torque
💪💪💪💪💪💪
The compression ratio and presence of catalytic converters makes a big difference with muffler design..
Hey I was hoping you could elaborate a bit more.
I've been thinking of swapping the mufflers on my vehicle. What design works best for a stock v6?
I think flowmasters chart goes from in the cab. The more drone and such inside is what that chart is based off. From what i read on a forum.
If you can have a convo without shouting you have made the right choice. She sounds good, real good.
Wow that sounds nice!
I never gave a second thought to this type of muffler, but I think it might work for me. It's smaller and would work in a tight space that some of my cars have. An x or h cross over would mellow it out more. I am going to look into this.
That's so cool I want that sound
Such a good video I understand what u sayin about mufflers I got a pair of thrush turbo style mufflers on a chevy 468 bbc I thought I would be quiter nope wife come God lord its still loud I lmao!!!
Thet sound reminds me of the late 60's early 70's cheap Thrush muffler. They didn't last long but they sounded good
Sound excellent to me.
I've had 40's before and hated the drone on the hwy.
They're a lot quieter if you place them closer to the exit of the pipe. I've tried these on a fuel injected 350.
Sounds very tough but engine doesn't exactly sound standard either and that always alters a vehicles note and acoustics of an exhaust. Sounds pretty wicked though. Great video! Thanks for sharing.👍😃
Those sound great 👍
Thanks for the video they sound awesome kinda pricey at 151 to 188 per muff 😮 I'm guessing those were the 18" length ?
It does sound great with those mufflers.
Man that sounds awesome
Definitely better then I planned
The 50 series is the one that kills the low rpm drone. Still sound great at full rip. Other videos show 10db lower than the old school 40 series.
Thanks man. This is just the info I was looking for. I want QUIET performance and I guess these are not it.
Excellent. Happy it helped. I will continue to do honest reviews whether we have sponsors or not. I just want people to know what they’re getting
Dang that ole square sounds amazing with those new flows !
I put a 2 chamber summit muffler, so flow knock off, on my 88 k2500 and love the sound, but I think it would be too loud for you. It's factory Y pipe, so 2" down to a little under 3" and then I put a straight piece of 3" back to the muffler and got a diesel suburban pipe to go from muffler over the axle and a single passenger side exit. I think it cost me maybe 200$ all together, but I can weld and fab so all DYI. I like it loud! But it's not poppy or snappy. More rumble. I'm running a 355 that's pretty mild, probably 325-350hp.
Wish the 350 in my 86 K2500 sounded that nice when I rev it.
I like your cribbage blocks. I have 12 of these I made years ago. They are cheap to make and stable to set a vehicle on. I require a lot of room to remove transmissions on vehicles. A little rough on your customers car????
You’re right to a point, but from experience I can tell you that a high performance engine vs. a stock engine changes everything. I have a bronco with a 429 with good flowing heads and high compression; headers, 3” exhaust and a flowmaster 50 welded to a 40 on each side that is still pretty loud. Needless to say, I understand the struggle.
They sound good
That sounds sweet
I bought a stainless steel kit for a 2018 F-150 5.0 and it came with a 40 series Flowmaster. After I saw it I ordered a 70 series and an auger to weld in the pipe in front of it from Speedway’s dirt tack section. After the kit was in stalled I had to rivet in a deflector infront of the end tips to make it livable on the road. Sound great now….
I’m REALLY curious how these would sound on my 6.4 hemi challenger 🤔💪🏼🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I tried a Summit chambered "race" muffler on a stock 95 F250 with a 460, it wasn't loud at all.
Nice pickup.
Sounds good
Get you a set of spandex that’s loud I had them on my GTO yeah I love them
The larger the pipe, the less snap u will get, and u will get a deeper tone and rumble
I would appreciate a 3 inch muffler in the HP2 style , it would just make since with 3 inch exhaust pipes 😊
I think that’s a good idea. I’ve been wanting to do a 3” exhaust on something and will try HP2’s vs my favourite Magnaflows
Could someone please tell me about those front , wooden wheel blocks and how to make them ??.
"Hushpower' mufflers are great when they are new but unlike other conventional Flowmaster mufflers which have baffles in them (which last a long time)to deflect noise the Hushpower style depend on a mesh type screen to deflect noise which burns out quickly.
Sounds good.
I had a question concerning the installation of the Flowmaster 12518409 HP-2 mufflers onto 2-1/2 inch pipe. The mufflers only come in 2-1/2 inch opening. Do you have to weld around the very edge, and if so, do you still get a good seal and smooth surface inside the pipe? Will it hold up to shock, etc. Also do you have to use special welding techniques and/or material due to the mufflers being made of stainless or did you just use stainless pipe? Don’t know much about welding! Thanks!!
They are made to fit directly over a 2-1/2 inch pipe. They will slide right over the pipe. And these aren’t stainless so no tig welding required. Just need a mig welder
They will get louder over time I'm assuming. Add an x pipe should tone it down some
If you get the Super HP-2 they don't have any packing so those will stay the same for life (bar rusting holes in it and such)
Sounds great, nice "sleeper" sound. Where are you located, beautiful surroundings.
We’re in beautiful Vernon BC Canada
EXCELLENT, keep them on, that’s the sound of muscle pick up truck.😎😎😎😎
I always used 50 series mufflers, the big block series and they were not too loud at all
Was thinking those myself. What's your specs if ya dont mind please🙏? I built a Vortec 350 long block with flat tops, .035" quench, 10.4:1, 220/224* .495/.502* 110° on 107°.
Love the sound of an H pipe exhaust they put in the fox bodies. Like to have a sound CLOSE to that. My plan is 2.5 h pipe with _________ Mufflers. Absolutely no idea what to pick. Not a fan the glass pack sound though.
I have a pair of 53051 flowmasters on my 78 SWB BIG10 454 with 3 inch pipe from collector to exit and they sound good.
@@AR_420 hey what kind of mpg are u getting out if that? I like the dyno max mufflers, magna flo and borla
Love the sound. Did the customer keep or return?
He actually called me yesterday and said he loves them and will keep them
i love the HP2
I want them for my Chevy Tahoe so bad
Of course itll sound louder inside the building but i got a set of hp2's on my 65 impala and not only does the car sound cool and so far everyone digs it they sound realky cool when u go up thru the gears(4 spd) about 3200 !🚛🇺🇸
What is the flowmaster series sounds good
You think these are the loudest mufflers you've ever heard? It is hard for me to imagine them being louder than the straight-through Cherry Bomb glasspacks. I have a set of 18" Cherry Bombs in a 2.5-inch dual exhaust system for a 445ci Ford FE. I was going to try these HP-2's to quiet it down as the glasspacks are just insanely loud, but I have very limited space to work with for a muffler.
This review is making me question if the HP-2's would be worth it.
I love the sound of the glasspacks though.
Leave them on it lol..
I went ahead and bought a pair of these HP-2's to replace the Cherry Bombs on my FE. I disagree with this video, the HP-2's are not the loudest mufflers - they are substantially quieter than Cherry Bombs (if you consider Cherry Bombs a 'muffler'). These are louder than what Flowmaster lets on, but they do sound great and attenuate the maximum exhaust volume well. I would recommend these on a V8 application where space is an issue.
I really like that truck a lot. Sounds good. As others have mentioned add a 2" diameter H-pipe and I bet it will be close to what you are looking for.
Add an h pipe that will quiet down the brap a fair bit except at W.O.T
Boy now that's a good sounding exhaust system!! I like that!! I gotta check on those!!
Thanks man. Always appreciate positive comments
What specific Patriot headers did you use? I assume the ‘77 Chevy truck has a small block. What are the specs on the engine? Cam, intake, carb, etc.
I don’t know the part number but they were 1.75” primary tubes. 350 SBC, aluminum manifold, Quick Fuel carb, big lumpy cam but I don’t know the specs on it. It was a used motor we didn’t know the history on
If you want lower dB you need more pipe after the muffler, mount mufflers closer to the cab
Sound has a lot to do with length of tubing before and after the muffler
It still sounds good though.
i just finished the cat back on my r32 vr6 VW engine with the series 80 and i love the sound. im losing some scavenging through second. so i might res delete to see if that helps
I love the sound of a VR6. Always wanted one
@@atpmonstergarage mines a 2005 24valve from an awd 3,2 touareg, i love this car. paid 1000usd almost.. mint
Just go with the one chambers and be done I've ran the super 10 and the 44 series and bye far the one chambers are the best there on both of my trucks!!!
Would be performing much better, engine would breathing and Exhausting the gases much more efficiently. That's a dramatic improvement. Well done.👌
Sound good
They sound great--nice and meaty. There are too many fart cans out there, and this is a nice alternative. I've got them on my 4.0 '93 Ranger, and they rumble nicely, especially once they seat a bit. They're not what you'd call "quiet," but who wants quiet?
Wow I love it . Give him some ear plugs
That's a beautiful truck boy
Now I know who's doing all the burnouts I hear from my place , lol. I live literally 1 minute from the airport. I'll be sure to leave a patch with my 68 firebird as I go by when it gets here , another 3 weeks but it's comin. 🍻
Oh bring that thing by and let’s have a look and do a feature!!!
@@atpmonstergarage just have to finish putting in my 402 bbc in my k5 to get this trade done , almost got all the parts so as soon that's together my buddy is going to deliver the firebird. I'll definitely swing by when I get it 🍻
I love 68 firechickens! The little old lady across the street from us when I grew up in Nanaimo (she was about 70 at the time) won a brand new '68 Firebird in a mall raffle. I used to watch that car come and go once a week for her grocery trips, thinking what a freakin waste of a beautiful car.
@@100amps it was probably in mint shape for the next guy at least. Nanaimo eh , haven't been there since my uncle lived on Jinglepot road in 1988 ish .
@@davids7349 I hope you're right. I rarely go to Nanaimo anymore, Ferry is too much. Time and money. Just not worth the effort.
is this quieter than the 40 series?
they sound realy good.i would leave them on.
Magnaflow 14” may be what your looking for. Smooth and Lumpy without the drone.
I actually wanted to try those next
@@atpmonstergarage they will save you from needing hearing aids some day ;)
Great job I hope you still enjoy it, one question what size rims are those?
15” but I’m not sure on the width. Has 295’s on the rear
@@atpmonstergarage I got the same ones in my 77 C10 but mine is long bed , when I see yours I think that's the way I will like to make mine looks like your😎😎
@@juandunas2381 I will be building another one this winter. Something a little more aggressive
@@atpmonstergarage is really cool to find something cool for a project and make it awesome keep the good work 😎😎😎
Those sound nasty on that truck. I have a set of these on a Grand Marquis still with manifolds and 4 cats, and they're not nearly as loud. They do sound raspier than the Cherrybombs I had but the interior drone is way less.
Holy crap! I LOVE the sound of those mufflers. I'm looking for that sound for my old Corvette 350. But it might be too loud for me. Let me know if you find that sound in a quieter package! 😎 Greetings from Tsawwassen.
Hey I’m in Langley at the moment!!!
I’m sure adding an x-pipe would tame it down a bit and still maintain the awesome sound which I will be trying on an upcoming build
@@atpmonstergarage I'm guessing there's no cats on that truck. I have none. Maybe adding cats will also tone it down.
@@100amps No cats back in 1978. You won’t see me installing cats on anything if I don’t have to. I’ve had tons of vehicles come in the shop running like crap getting bad fuel mileage because the cats were plugged. Yes they serve a purpose but I prefer without
@@atpmonstergarage Oh, I thought it was 72-ish that started. My 79 Corvette had a single cat originally. Magnaflow sells high flow cats. No idea what impact they'd have on tone.
were they flanged to fit over a 2.5 OD pipe? trying to put one on my 86 C10
Yes they slid right over the pipe no problem
I'm going to try one on my Can Am 570. ATV mufflers are ridiculously priced.
Lol I’m looking at an Arctic Cat 1000 and was thinking the same thing
@@atpmonstergarage I just went out and measured the stock pipe going into the muffler and the O.D. was just under an inch and 3/4. Gotta figure something out there. The other thing that's cool about this is the lifetime warranty. If I could rig up a cup and ball system with springs, it could be easily removed.
@@atpmonstergarage I really think you should do it. For some reason the 304's aren't available. Just the black 409's. Being a car guy, I dont think anything could be more cool that seeing the Flowmaster embossed name on the back of my ride. Yours too. If they sound amazing even cooler yet!
He should have tested them outside like the first test
Music to my ears
Some of the pop u are hearing is they are mounted too far forward. Back near the back axle would make a difference.
What cam are you running? Do you have the specs? Sounds great! You're definitely not sneaking up on anyone. Lol
Unfortunately I don’t know. It was a used motor the customer bought. Rollerized and was supposed to be around 400 Hp was all anyone knew. Sat around for years but sure is fun and healthy
Sounds great even though I hate flowcrappers
Why not get a cherry bomb glass pack since it's a classic truck
Just wait till that laminar flow thing comes loose in the middle of them..
Its loud but it's muuuch less raspy qnd cracky than when you started the video. They said its the quietER of the two, not that it's quiet. 😉 It sounds like it should... If you want quiet, get their fitry series big block. Allvthe power, none of the noise.
Imagine what it would sould like on an actually good running high horsepower engine.
Have you tried them on you Big block yet?
Not yet but I am planning to on one of them. Not sure which one yet though
Shouldn't have changed em sounds good to me
These mufflers are deff for v8. Maybe a big v6. Do not put into a 4 banger unless you want loud raspy droney noise!
Guess I should've known
They sound very nice and powerful, keep them on. 👍
I would’ve gone with the 70s series just to be safe only if they’re cheap enough since they’re made in China
You guys are in Canada?
Yes sir. In Vernon Bc
@@msk1509 No kidding?
Use stock mufflers, if u want quiet.
