    Hey Wess, Thank you for your work. I have the same truck. Bought it off of my Dad who lived to be 99 and did not drive much; he also did not do ANY work on the truck, he was very frugal. I have 106,000 on the truck now. I actually just bought a 1995 XL which had been sitting in a pasture for 3 years. First thing I did was take the fuel tanks out and replaced with new pumps and tanks W\hoses. It has a miss at all speeds. I have up to this point done maintenance on the engine. I went to replace the plugs, wires, rotor, and cap. Came here to get the Gap for the plugs. I pulled the first plug and who knew, it was not even torqued down. Went to remove it and did not even have to put a socket on it. Just snapped the socket on and turned it with my fingers'. I hope this is the solution to the miss. We will see. I appreciate you and I will look at the Air Temp Sensor as well.

    Got the same motor and problems but on an 88 custom manual. My neighbor is an elderly woman who recently lost her husband who it belonged to. It’s sat for the last 5 /6 years . I’m glad I watched your videos because it shows every step I was getting ready to take . The air intake temp sensor never crossed my mind I was on my way to thinking it to be the computer and was prepared to buy one. Definitely am going to go get a temp sensor because it does that jerky loping you speak of but once it’s ran to temp it straighten right on out . So it more sense get new one clean the existing one tomorrow and see if it works if so I’ll replace it and move on to maintenance all the other neglect . Thanks for the run down and showing how to truly throw parts at a vehicle… lol thanks man just giving you a hard time… I was bout to do the same damn thing , while I’m clowning… good job feels good when stuff finally works , right ?

Looking like a new computer may be in store… hit me back I’d appreciate any info.

    Just came from your air temp sensor video....man I'm going to be so mad yet so happy if that's all it was that was making my truck run so rough cause right now I've got the engine taken apart replacing gaskets and vacuum hoses, I e already changed out spark plugs and the wires, the ignition coil, the distributor, the fuel injectors, the intake and exhaust valves...if all it was was that sensor making it run rich I'm gonna cry semi joy, semi pain.

    Nice video. I can tell your motor could use a little degreaser like my 4.9 as well haha. The gap on the motorcraft plugs out of the box is closest I've ever seen to being right, always good to check them tho. They're a lot easier to change on the 4.9 than my 2.3l dual plug head ranger I had that's for sure. 8 plugs to get a 98hp on that sucker haha.

  • @nitrofish1974
    @nitrofish1974 3 года назад

    I have been having a rough idle on my 4.9 for long time I changed everything You name it I change it. My brother had same issues with his chevy we changed plugs,wires same result then it hit me ,took distributor cap off and the contacts in cap were oxidized no real contact, scraped cleaned and sanded replaced and it was like day and night plenty of power no hesitation. So I checked my 4.9 and low and behold contacts pitted, oxidized and made of aluminum not copper so cleaned and replaced and awesome result no hesitation or miss 😀
    So check that cap and rotor and clean before going off spending hard earned money 💰 on everything else.

    Subscribing bro I’m tackling the same truck did the ECM fix the problem?

    • @WhattheVloggity
      @WhattheVloggity 4 года назад +1

      Just saw what fixed it.. about to change distributor and possibly throw an ECM at her also .

    • @wesssidestory4157
      @wesssidestory4157  4 года назад +1

      So i had more.than one issue.. the rough idle was really contributed to a majorly corroded air intake temperature sensor. but i also had an issue that my fuel.pump.would cut off after priming.. watch the ECM removal.video i let you hear how I knew the ecm was going out

    Seems like I have the same oil leak issue on my truck, where is it coming from exactly?

    • @wesssidestory4157
      @wesssidestory4157  5 месяцев назад

      My truck is leaking from the oil pan. The front of it rusted through and is allowing some oil to leak out underneath. If your referring to the side of the block it may be head gasket leaking but it also protects the steel block so it’s not a real problem

    Hey man, I need some help. I just put motorcraft platinums in my 95 4.9l. Double checked the gap everytime. Truck idles fine but misfires when I’m driving, I have to baby it. Did the platinums give you any issues?

    • @wesssidestory4157
      @wesssidestory4157  Год назад

      I didn’t have any problems out of my spark plugs and they are still running fine. What was the gap you set? Could there be crossed spark plug wires or wires that are touching each other? Sometimes the spark can jump from one or the other. Was the truck running fine before new plugs? If not perhaps an injector is trying to clog up on you. If you haven’t changed the intake air temperature sensor I would suggest that as well. Good luck with your truck I hope this helps

    On my 1994 F150 with the 4.9L, the recommended spark plug is the BSF-44C. I've noticed in Internet searching that a BSF-44C-A has superseded that plug and I see that you are using that new plug, too. Do you know what the difference is between the two plugs? I can't find anything on the Internet that explains why the OE plug had to be superseded. Plus, to make it more confusing, both plug models are still being sold.

    • @wesssidestory4157
      @wesssidestory4157  2 года назад

      I think I chose iridium plugs. Copper plugs would have been standard. So the conductor most likely is the only difference at any rate

    My 92 4.9L is idling weird and the transmission is jerking when it shifts. Just did my plugs, wire, distributor cap & rotor. Doing the intake air temp sensor & the MAP sensor tomorrow. Hope it works.

    • @wesssidestory4157
      @wesssidestory4157  3 месяца назад

      Those items may fix the idle. When you say it’s jerking when you shift is it a manual or automatic? Explain jerking a little bit better. Like engaging hard or what?

      @obxguy1 3 месяца назад

      @@wesssidestory4157 also I changed the MAP & the IAT sensor and the idle seems to be much much better. If I can get the clunking when shifting to reverse to ease up, I would be happy.

      @wesssidestory4157  3 месяца назад

      @@obxguy1 mine does that sometimes also. Mostly in the synchronizers wearing. These are old trucks. Shifting forks being bent can make them hard to go in gear also. If it don’t like to shift in first or reverse. I pull up my 4 x 4 shifter and push it back down to 2wd it normally gets it to go into gear easier

    • @wesssidestory4157
      @wesssidestory4157  3 месяца назад

      @@obxguy1 you can try my trick with the 4x4 lever and see if it makes a difference. If you feel comfortable with transmission work you can try replacing the synchronizers or the shifting forks. I haven’t don’t any of that. Might try checking or changing your transmission fluid also. I changed mine years ago now and if probably time to redo it now

    Wes-I have the same truck -1995 Ford F150 4.9l. It misfires during idle and while driving. This problem is not always present. I think it is less noticeable in cold weather. I've replaced plugs, wires, rotor and cap, but there is still a misfire. Any ideas?
