I'm very late to the party here, but thanks for this video Hoon! I received my machine today with a PID installed, but it went haywire on me tripping the boiler safety and everything. Your video showed me how easy it was to get at the wires screwed into the back of the PID controller. I found one crossed wire and one loose screw and my machine works now!

Just installed the Auber PID on my twelve year old Silva. This will eliminate the temperature surfing I had to “master” over the years of brewing shots. Installation was not an issue after reading the instructions and watching your video (thank you!). After that, went step by step and took my time to do it right the first time. From start to finish, took me about 2.5 hours. As for the end result, very slight improvement on what I have mastered over the years. At least now I have a solid temperature on which to improve my shot. Next step, pressure gauge to check and adjust the pressure to really dial it in.

At least you were honest Hoon telling people to buy the machine with the PID built in.
    First class video and description.
    Kind regards from Scotland

I am about to buy a PID with pre-infusion and your video is so clear that I'm ordering today (finally confident to install it and upgrade my V2 that has been upgraded in V3/V4 in the last years). I hope it will both upgrade and solve my brew thermostat problem (because it needs to be changed anyway).
Your video is super clear, just don't forget that if your camera has problems focusing, it's because your lens is to close to the subject. Move back a bit and the minimal distance will make it easier for the camera to focus.
    Thanks again!

Just did mine. A bit more work with the E version (auto shut off after 30 min). The power controller at the back needs to be relocated to make room for the SSR and the power wiring connects to the brew switch instead of the power switch. Otherwise ok to install. I out the controller a little too close to the brew head and it’s now stuck. Fingers crossed won’t get too hot.

In Australia the PID including install costs $559 AUD. It's better to install it yourself and save $$230 AUD

Thanks for the video. I just got my rancilio for $450 on an auction. The ones with PID already installed run over 1k so purchasing it separately saves me a lot of money so thank you for this step by step because I’m a visual learner. Can’t wait to get it and install my self :)

After doing this almost all the way through: Start with the last step connecting the cables to the PID. Its very fiddly when the cables are connected to the rest of the machine. Remove the front plate and there will be plenty of space to thread the connector through to the rest of the machine.

Hoon superb video. Clear and concise. I agree with what you said, your video will make it all makes sense after reading the manual. I will now look to buy and DIY this PID for my 8 year old Silvia. Improvement is continuous. Once again, thank you Sir.

Thanks for the video. I am looking at installing a PID on my Silvia as well. Do you know if there is a way to maintain the function on the brew button?

Great video, thanks! I've been considering one for my "vintage" Coffee Gaggia, which is still working great after 11 years, and still has all the parts available to keep it going another 10 at least! Based on your experience I think I can handle the installation. (And just btw - it looks like the PID version of the Silvia you linked to is $1099, but the non-PID at SCG is only $735.)

I recently installed the PID w/Pre infusion on my v5 Silvia M and noticed that the pre infusion actually activates the 3 way solenoid valve which disrupts the puck.

Question... Installing the Auber PID on Silvia V6 E.. the brew button works to make coffe manually? Or the only way it's with the Auber button...Thanks

I notice you tap the power switch for power, rather than the brew switch as the Auber guide advises to. Have you encountered any issues related to this since carrying out the installation? Thanks

Hi Hoon, great video. Very educational. Thanks for showing the whole process.
You mentioned that the price difference is $100. but that is not the case. Black colored Silvia is for $795 where as the Black with PID is $1,159. So the difference is $364 (1159 - 795). For stainless steel, the price difference is $364 too (1099 - 735). The black color adds $60 to the machine.
But the amount of time, effort and headache this seems to take, I think with PID it is worth it. You did mention that 2 computer techs spent 2 hours on it. And of course, this is as first timers. And yes, it also voids the warranty. So thanks again for making this video.

You didn't take into account the cost of buying the PID, which is $200, so roughly around $100 give or take what current offerings are.

Can you do a longer pre infusion than 2.5 seconds? Lance did a dimmer mod on the motor. Would that work with this PID mod? I bought my Silvia in 2003. Still going strong. So I am not worried about the warranty.

I only have two total output cables which the guide tells me to connect to the brew side. My PID kit leaves the steam settings alone then?

Thank you for the video. I also work with computers on the hardware and software level, but I agree. I would rather pay the extra $100.00 and have it already installed for me, and not voiding the warranty.

Hopefully, I'll get answers here. just a question, does the brew button needs to be pressed from the PID. What if i still want the brew button from the machine itself to work?

Thanks for this video. I was on the fence about installing myself. I think now I'm going to leave it to the pros. I was curious though, how easy/difficult you think it would be to remove the PID and return the Silvia back to factory settings at some later point.

Greetings! And thank you for the video on installing Auber PID in a Silvia. I’ve used a version 1 Silvia daily for 17 years and love my machine. I’m now in the planning stages to add PID to my Silvia and would appreciate your opinion. I’m not that interested in pre-infusion but willing to purchase the kit with pre-infusion for the benefit of the steam control. Do you find that controlling the steam with PID is beneficial? Also, can the pre-infusion be turned off (disabled) or set to 0 seconds to circumvent it’s use? Thanks for your consideration!

Yeah, I just did it myself and it was a major pain in the ass. Cut my finger pretty bad on one of the sharp edges. But pretty satisfying to have done it. It is just really expensive to buy one of these with PID installed. I think it was $1,000 plus on Seattle Coffee. For that price, you might as well go with a heat exchanger machine.

May I offer an alternative view to getting a Silvia with PID pre-installed?
From my recent experience, Silvia PID conversion vendors seem to be a small cottage industry of techs working out of their garage. When I was looking, the issue for me was time, not money. I searched high and low, but could not find anyone with a PID'd version ready to ship... Plus, the few that responded to my inquiry showed little enthusiasm. None would commit to when, or if, they might be willing to make one for me. As a result, I decided to DIY it... hey, after all, this is only a hobby. Granted, there's some hassle involved, you feel like you might fail, but in the end, you discover that the task was easy and you learn a lot. Plus, as a hobbyist, the end-user personal satisfaction 'at-a-boy (girl)' experience is top-notch. Try it... surprise yourself. I bet you can do it.
    Well worth the effort... M
