I’ve experienced bad results using this same exact process of spraying to kill vegetation, fire to remove thatch, then broadcasting seed over top. Weeds took over my plot like never before. From my understanding, fire stimulates the seed bank in the soil. Has anyone ever experienced weed issues using this process?
Any soil disturbance is going to stimulate the seed bank. Ideally we try to time rain so the seeds we broadcasted germinate and establish before weeds take over the plot.
24 years as a burn boss and I hate to see people prescribed burning while wearing a T Shirt. Layer up with some cotton long sleeves, Nomex. It can save your life.
Man you can’t oversimplify some aspects of Rx fire. “Just a backpack sprayer” may in fact Not be enough. It’s all “good” till you cause a major incident
@@Whitetail_Properties yes agreed, but if you don’t make it a habit to have adequate contingency plans including people, machines, and even a PACE plan for an escape you will eventually lose one and consequently could end up destroying not just your own property, but others, and structures, and even kill people. Do not take fire without serious plans. I go to numerous fires every year where a perfectly reasonable land owner had an escape. Error to the side of extreme caution.

How high can the humidity be to get a decent fire?
it really is site depended, but anywhere from 35-50 is usually doable. The lower the humidity the hotter the fire.
Why would you spray it??
To kill the vegetation.
My food plot isn't growing it's been seeded 3 weeks ago no till we have had rain 2 days a week as well
I would bet you are not looking close enough. You would have weeds if nothing else coming up after 3 weeks

With proper conditions and good fire breaks prescribed fire can be very simple to implement.
