I just got mine a couple days ago, and so far I am well pleased. Just a couple thoughts, not sure if you mentioned it or not. Like any chainsaw, make sure the chain is running before you make contact with the wood. Second, while I realize everyone's needs are different, for me, I generally only have a few limbs at a time I cut. So instead of even using the oiler, I just have an old pump oil gun, like grandpa use to have (yes you can still get them) and just give the chain/bar a couple squirts of bar oil, every now and then. For me, least for now, it's much better than filling that oil tank and then having to deal with it when storing. Of course if I had a big trimming job, I would use the oil tank.
Thanks for sharing, mate! ~~~IMPORTANT NOTICE!!! According to Dewalt Service Tech, "the pole saw (even brand new) MUST be stored horizontally with cap upright (cardboard piece under chain mechanism for extra protection) to prevent chain oil leakage. Otherwise, drain the chain oil if you're not willing to store in this recommended manner." I lost the entire oil reservoir twice upon 1st two usages because I stored it vertically in the box. Dewalt, IMO, should put this oil warning info in BOLD LETTERING under oil section of owner's manual. I had to call a Dewalt Service Center to get the skinny on this nugget of truth.
You are correct sir! Truth is, I quit using bar and chain oil in mine to just avoid the hassle. I've used it many times now dry and we will see how long it goes before one or the other wears out.... Thanks for watching and commenting.
I bought one for my business. It works pretty good. Especially for the cost to use ratio. As compared to a sthil or echo pole saw. Easy to throw on a atv or truck and starts great in cold weather 😅
Just a safety tip when messing with the chain as in tightening it or cleaning, just remove the battery first. It take 2 seconds to do that and no worries about fingers.
I've put it through some abuse since this video was made and it's holding up well. It's a bit flimsy with the extension but it gets the job done. If you already have the batteries it makes a lot of sense to go with this brand. Thank you for watching and commenting.
I have the karcher version which I love - but there are little things about the dewalt such as the key storage on the scabbard which is so clever and convenient.
I can tell you it cuts through limbs like butter! A 3" or 4" limb might take 5 seconds. The downside is that it's pretty heavy! Holding it at a 60 degree angle for any length of time will give your arms a workout!
Thanks. At first, I'd store it with an old shirt or cardboard underneath and let it leak. I never drained it. Now, if I plan to do a lot of cutting with it at one time, I fill it and try to use up the oil. If I don't plan to cut a lot at once, I don't bother putting oil in it at all. I've done this dozens of times and still use the original bar and chain.
At about the 6:50 mark you cut the trunk of a pine tree and a 5/6, both cuts performed horizontally about waist high. When I try cutting branches as low as my waist or lower my DeWalt turns off as I'm holding the button down. If I raise it to cut something where my arms extend at least chest high it works again. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
There must be a connection issue with your saw. Possible where the poles connect together. It should work no matter how you hold it. Other than that, there must be a defect of some kind if you are sure that your battery is good.
You're welcome! I don't believe there's anything other than an 8 inch bar available for this saw. You would likely not have adequate power out of the electric motor with a 16" bar on this saw.
Serious answer here... just quit using oil. It'll last a long time without oil, if you don't use the saw every day. Worst case scenario is you'd have to replace the bar and chain in a year or two but you don't have to deal with the mess. I haven't put oil in mine for almost two years, but I don't use it real often. Still haven't needed to replace the bar or chain.
I doubt it! Truth is, I quit putting oil in mine at all. I just keep running it dry. Eventually, the bar and chain will wear out and I will need to replace them, but I've gotten by for a long time using it this way. Doesn't leak out when there's nothing in it to leak!
For 500 bucks it’s a great little Saw until it isn’t. I think I do use mine three times and then the motor went out on it just clicks when I press the button I’ve got voltage all the way up to the motor.
Are you sure your battery is good and that the chain isn't jammed up with debris around the sprocket or chain wedged up somehow? Maybe try it with the bar off and see if it works, then you've got it nailed down to the bar and chain being the issue.
@@UncleBucksagreed. Any chain saw device requires routine maintenance pretty much every time you use it. I use canned air on mine to remove the bits and pieces picked up during a session.
500 bucks?! did you buy 2 em? lol. That happened to mine after a 1 and a half to 2 years. I got a replacement couple days ago and the saw heads are now pale plastic looking instead of the shiny metal head like from this video along with a redesign of the sheath that now has 2 holes and the key is on the bottom edge where it is more exposed to being hit or bent...cherry on top are the stickers not even being fully stuck on. If you have the option keep the OLD style and fix it otherwise you may get stuck with this inferior model as a replacement. Made in China is hit or miss. The connection from handle to head also super flexy and loose with a small clicking. My 60V chainsaw also came missing the bolt and washer that keep the chain on! time to jump ship. The tool cuts very well and I got it from Project farms recommendation, but quality control tells me Dewalt wants our $$$$$$$$$ without investing their $$$

Yeah, I've never heard of draining the oil after each use in a chain saw.
@@UncleBucks lol. Seriously? I guess if you want to replace the bar and chain all the time.
@silverbackag9790 Yes, seriously. I haven't replaced either one yet, and it's probably been close to 2 years, but I only use it infrequently.
I bought it a few weeks ago. It is a great saw.
Техника для людей! Купил себе такой в феврале 2022 года, мощный инструмент!
Приветствую. Напишите пожалуйста полную модель и где брали?
Leaning towards buying this soon only because already have dewalt batteries, great points/tips/demonstrations
Couple years of intermittent use and abuse, it's still going strong. Highly recommend!!
@UncleBucks Great feedback sir!!

I hear ya bro. No flooding or fouling issues so far!!

good tip, battery tools are very dangerous to work on. very easy to start them in an instant and have full power
Good review . I just bought a Stihl MS500I I already have DeWalt tools and battery I think this thing will make my woodland maintence a lot easier .

I’m buying one
You'll not regret it!

True words!
Try a full sized Stihl gas powered pole saw. I got this for a lightweight supplement to that heavy SOB.
Nice review, thank you. Question: Do you "always empty oil tank when finished cutting" per the manual instructions? This seems a bit ridiculous to me.
Thanks. At first, I'd store it with an old shirt or cardboard underneath and let it leak. I never drained it. Thank you for the review. Can you install a 16” blade?

Great saw...I love mine.
OUCH! I got mine for 140.00 and it cane with a battery and charger. The 5mah I think it was a fathers day special.
That was a great deal! Especially if it has been within the last year or two.
Thank you
Very good what price
@@MichaelNestor-e1k about $230 new at this time (including battery and charger).
Love the chain saw. I am ready to chop down the banana trees!
The DeWalt chain saw is the next tool I buy!
Excellent
This is the same system where I could put a string trimmer on the end?
I don't believe so. Pretty sure the string trimmer is all together different.
@@UncleBucks thank you!
my shoots out oil like it’s taking a pee, I used it today for maybe 90 seconds total and it used 1/2 the container of oil

The crazy thing is that the instructions said you are to empty the oil out of the reservoir after every use! Really? Does anyone do this?

A great comment , I have a dent or two in mine 👍👍👍👍😊😊(Head) Ian, U.K.
Hello sir, what model is this?
It's the 20v XR Brushless
How tickness this tool does a cutting
Probably up to about 8" in diameter but it's not meant for trees or logs that big.

Hi Auntie :)
Only 9 ft long with the extension
It's $220 now.
Ugh. Everything costs way more than a couple years ago. Good job, senile Joe.
No eye protection = crazy !
It definitely wouldn't be wise, since most of the sawdust is falling from above you while using this saw.
I bought the Oregon PS250, more money, but a better saw.
