- Performances of college dance teams competing in Orlando this weekend are garnering millions of views on TikTok and other social media sites. One of them being from the University of Minnesota. WCCO's Marielle Mohs caught up with the team about this growing attention on the national stage. #news #dance #viral
Those college Dancers are incredible they put a lot of time into dance all the practice to be great . Go Gophers Dance Team ❤ !!!!
Their fouettes are perfectly synchronized!! Gorgeous
Takes my breath away!! Such precision!!
I'm guessing this went viral because people have never watched dancing before.
My niece is part of a competitive dance team (and I have 3 left feet when I dance) so I have an understanding of the truly insane level of effort that goes into creating & executing a routine that well. I've always been amazed at how long it's taking for the world to wake up to the stone-cold fact that these dancers are ATHLETES deserving of as much attention as any football team.
I'm telling ya, there is something in the water up there in Minnesota. Look at videos of high school competitions and you'll see the talent is crazy good and goes back many years! The competition to get into UM is tough. They deserve many accolades!
Yep I grew up on dance team in Minnesota and thought these insanely talented dancers were commonplace but have since lived all over and it’s definitely a MN thing.
As a professional dancer for 27 years. I must say, they are incredibly impressive! Nicely done! That was a ton of dedication and hard work right there. ( not to mention bloody feet, bruises, soreness, and the intense psychological stress of wanting to do your best).
Crazy choreography. They look like trained ballet dancer, gave 💯% and deliver the whole performance with great aplomb
This ain't ballet.
They were PERFECT!!!! THEY KILLED IT🔥🔥🔥
C'mon they deserved 1st place! 👏
Are you a qualified judge?
@@oliviabb73849 I can guarantee this person hasn't even seen the winner.
Should probably watch OSU’s team now… they must be amazing too then
I danced in college. I was part of the dance club. It was an outlet from the stress of academia. But these women right here! Do it for fun, do it for the love of it, do it for themselves, family, friends, the community, the thrill of hearing the cheers. I don't dance as nearly as well as these ladies do, but if I could do it again, I would do it in a ❤ beat. Dancing is fun, liberating, and doing it with a group of talented girls like this, just awesome!🎉❤🎉❤
There are so many amazing dance groups out there like this
Thsnk you 4 sharing this, such incredible talant and dedication, bravo 👏 🙌 👍
So so proud of them
WOW - Loved watching this performance 🎉 WOW 🤩
Wowee! Didn’t know they competed in dance in colleges! Knew they did cheerleading and other drills. Nice work!
I love dance 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 and there spins are soooooo goooood 😊😊😊😊
Really cool to watch...congrats..sure you worked hard!
The reason why it’s gone so viral is because it’s the first time a male dancer has been featured and permitted to perform and compete at such a level.
The dancers are amazing on their technique! Congratulations on your success.
It’s about time that us males get the chances. If you’ve got the talent and technical ability to do the routines, then you should be allowed to do the routines. Dance is not just for women!!!!
I wish my time, dancing in the early 90’s would’ve been met with such enthusiasm. Instead of being shunned and denied.
Bravo!!!!
This isn't correct. It went viral for their turn sequence which was extremely difficult and included a mid-fouette aerial into continuing fouettes. They have gone viral for their routines before but it was the turn sequence that made this blow up. The male dancer was phenomenal but not anymore than the ladies and this most definitely is not the first time a male has competed at a collegiate level.
Masi from dance moms is in this team and I’m just so proud of her
Brought tears to my eyes
Do you need some help?
Always nice to see a ‘CCO video on You Tube….🍺🍺🍺!
Very nice but how are they diff from other universities dance routine?
Theirs just got the most popular because of the difficulty
Great to see a dance team perform to actual music! Usually it's just that silly hip-hop rap crap without real music, just a beat. Went viral with many young people hearing real musicians for first time.
You ain't lying
I may be bias, but Minnesota has the most lovely, smart girls in the U.S. I know, I have traveled extensively. I am an old Minnesota son, born and bred.
Wow. They are amazing ❤
Incredible talent!!
Those pirouettes are INSANE for such a large group to sync. Cool that they have a guy on their team too
Minnesotans are proud of them.
i just want to say all those young women are dedicated to their dance and to the coach i want to say thank you for all you do you are that one person all those ladies look up too to help them when they need someone because a lot of those ladies are far from home and their support systems they know
sorry is this a story about the dance team or stupid TikTok and other social media sites.....????????
WOW that is awesome. ❤
Yikes! Can’t believe they were second! Totally deserved another title win!!
Great dancers
Was 1000% better than OSU's jazz routine. The boring Broadway theme is SO overused. UMDT was on a whole other level, in every single element of dance. I don't know what the judges were seeing, but it wasn't anything close to what the spectators and dancers who have danced most of their lives saw.
Tbh all of the dances of this style are predictable and boring 🤷♀
As a child growing up in the 60's and 70's, "Drill Teams" and "Dance Teams" were a way of life. We learned to work together, follow instructions, plus the level of fitness required was measurable.
Everything today's young people don't get...
I personally believe Dance Teams in struggling public schools would be a win-win situation for whole communities!
"Everything today's young people don't get..." No idea why you felt the need to put entire generations down when the rest of your comment is about working together.. twit.
Joining a dance team isn't cheap. Every single dance team you see today has invested hundreds and thousands of dollars into lessons. Basically everything old people today don't get.... money doesn't grow on tress and we aren't making the same people were making in the 60s and 70s. So once again... thanks for ruining sh!t and then turning around and blaming us for it.
"Everything young people don't get?"
Way a generalize.
literally every generation dating all the way to the BC era has writings were someone bitched about the current generation as lazy etc. It's laughable.
I'm a mom of 2 competitive dancers you cannot just walk onto a high school dance team without experience.
Jazz in particular has the foundation of ballet and there is an entire vocabulary to dance , almost individual skills have French names.
And yes dance is hell of expensive, we've sacrificed a lot to keep paying for dance. Whenever you see sports at an elite level remember those are the kids whose parents could afford it in the first place.
He is brave and courageous
This is so incredible. Definitely a tricky question as to whether college dance should enter the NCAA's though...
by definition, dance is an 'art form', NOT a sport, and to say it should be categorised as a sport - for many people sounds like saying chess competitions or bingo should be categorised as a sport [I am NOT conflating these board games with the hard work, grit, refinement and endurance these dance teams have and train to perfect with board games between people sitting on their ass, but when you look at it the critiques are quite similar...].
Obviously the distinction between a sport vs dance as an art form becomes less clear/a real grey area when group routines compete with one another. But just as people have questioned bringing obscure, niche sports into the NCAA with the rationale of that isn't really the point of NCAA's to expand and provide a space for everything from genuine testaments of athleticism as were recognised by the original olympics back in Ancient Greece; rather it is a conference focused on pure tests of athleticism, not e.g. scoring that includes points for costumes, being in sync, stage presence, etc - those are all aesthetic/artistic critiques.
But it's quite a fine line to draw - and an interesting debate when you delve into it! I completely respect both sides as having a valid argument to stand on
PERFECTION
Go Minnesota!
Very well done.
MN dance goes viral every year. Welcome to the party.
i think maesi from dance moms is in this
Like “Shen Yun”, sort of. 👍
Go get em 👏👏👏
Wow. They’re awesome!
I wanted to go to the UOM for a long time for dance but after watching this I don’t think i’m good enough hahah
Same
Are they gona go on AGT next
Good job 🎉
I love the ballet moves. So much more difficult to stay in sinc than just twerking like so many just do. .
Way to go 🎉
Can you get scholarships for dance?
Wow!
those are some cleanly synchronized tricks.
i just wish people actually danced at these things.
I am a dancer and I have been planning on sending an application to there for dance
FIRE🖤
I wonder how many on the team were Tigerettes?
I’m in college…I want to dance for a living…I like to color with crayons
I don't get it. This looks like every drill team performance I have ever seen. Who is shocked and amazed by this? Guessing lots of people who have never paid attention ever before.
Could you do it? If not shut up
❤
what exactly means viral to you?
I remember a story like around 2000, U of Minnesota had a dance team, and the dancers were so hot they were forced to disband the team. Anyone remember that?
Just go Watch almost any episode of America’s Got Talent and you will see much better.
To be on a dance team your family would have to invest hundreds and thousands of $ in dance lessons. These people didnt just randomly join up together one day and decide to dance together. Dance teams arent cheap.
Not me thinking we could see the whole routine
Hands down should have won jazz!!
Goooooo GOPHERS!!!
I watched Minnesota and Ohio State live for semi finals and finals…..Minnesota was better in Jazz. They were more entertaining and had more levels of difficulty.
They need some pretty dance costumes.
It was ok
RUclips Abba highschool competition, that one's pretty crazy
They are very skilled. But it is more like gymnastics than dancing.
The "Gopher" in Caddyshack was workin his groove.
disappointingly short dance clip
❤
They are all white
No wonder 'everyone' loves them
Minnesota
Ski u mah 🎉
Ahhh..there he his. I knew Minnesota had to have one juicy fruit on the team 😂😂😂😂
First place was what they should have received. Ohio States was very boring.
Oh are you a qualified judge or expert in dance and how this competition is judged? No. Bye ❤
@@oliviabb73849 I actually am, do you want my resume? I’ll DM it to you now. It’s impressive.
why the one male
Looks like drill team.
Dance line should be fully recognized by the NCAA as a valid varsity sport. The Olympics should do so as well.
Way to go, USA, taking something beautiful and artistic like dance and turning it into a kitschy, tacky, shallow competition.
Go Bucks ❤❤❤
They could do with losing a few pounds.
Not sure what hype is OSU was definitely better… many many mistakes
BREAKING TOP STORY:
Dance team accused of allegedly taking avian hormonal extracts to perform dance routines like a flock of birds in apparently synchronized flight. Competition claim Swarm Intelligence is unfair.
News at 11.
No I haven’t come across them at all, I find this stuff boring.
why are they all white?... where is the U of M'S diversity...
Can we stop calling it dance and call it coordinated posing?
Really couldn’t care less
Stop
Does the dance team have the proper racial mix for the insane WCCO’s liking ?
Im sorry that there is only one male dancer..
