Hey guys! In this video I show you guys my FULL AMCAS Application for applying to medical school during the 2021 application cycle. I had a successful cycle and have been accepted to 10 medical schools. Be sure to stay to the end to see what schools I received interview invites from, where I got accepted, and where I got rejected out of applying to a total of 28 schools.

My hopes with these videos are to share all the tips and things I learned during my long journey of applying to medical school first in 2017 and then 3 years later in 2020.
It is a hard process but with some planning and dedication it is possible!

You bring hope to all Low-GPA applicants
Haha it can definitely be done! If you follow Dr. Gray on IG he posts students success stories all the time who have low GPAs!
THIS! And older applicants. I’m 26 and going to apply again for the second time. Wish me luck!
I didn't have excellent stats either! Totally possible.
Just get a 516 on your MCAT lol.
@@kyoukan91 yeah but med schools they mostly care about two things your MCAT score and GPA they could care less about extra curricular but you should consider them as they do strengthen your application but your acceptance rate just goes up and up when your grades go up
Thank you for being so honest and open because I've seen too many posts with "Low GPA" then they have above a 3.5 which was disheartening.
You are welcome! You should definitely follow Dr. Gray on Instagram. He posts success stories all the time of other students getting in with even lower stats than mine!
honestly that mcat makes up for that gpa easily. lol 516 is no joke.
Also 3k hrs of clinical experience will open a lot of doors lol
@@kamariweaver1536 yeaa. average 3.35 gpa applicant doesnt have anywhere near what she has. She's a real exception.
I think the upward trend also made a big dif. She’s not just a 3.35 gpa application. She also has a upwards trend gpa
@@RedFaceeee I agree! That's one of the important details. Also, I'm humbled by the likes I've gotten for my comment lol. Shows me that people are looking past the surface (which is just the low gpa)
I had a similar story. Got a lot of B/Cs in science course, my since GPA was probably 3.2 which is not horrible but is pretty bad when you are applying for med school as an Asian applicant. My MCAT score at the time was decent, but it wasn't all that great. I was on the 15 pt scale for each section and got like a 31. It definitely wasn't high enough to save my GPA. I applied the first time, also late and was waitlisted at 2 places. The second time I applied and got into the school I wanted to go to. I did not take a post-bac program. Instead, I focused on every other aspect of my application. I did a lot of volunteering, clinical shadowing, research + publications, and medical mission trips. I think because of what I had done, I stood out extracurricular wise from my fellow applicants. This also made my interviews very easy as I had a lot I could talk and share about. I was never a person that was great at test-taking, but I was able to get into medical school and have passed all my boards so far. Good luck to those applying to medical school. My two pieces of advice is to make sure this is what you want to do before you commit and make sure you have a life outside of studying and school.
Great story! I am also interested in getting enrolled in med school. I’ve some queries about the process. Can I dm you? Your email please.
I feel encouraged and inspired by your story. Thanks for sharing that and best wishes on your medical career!
Thank you so much for sharing. This really brings hope as a pre-med. I want to go to medical school but I feel behind that I’m not smart or fast enough to do best in my classes. But thank you tho for sharing. This helps
You give me hope!
"pretty bad when you are applying for med school as an Asian applicant". thats a shame that bc you are Asian with those stats you get rejected, but is true and nobody wants to talk about this discrimination ....should not matter
Great video. I think three things really set you apart:
1. You have a great personality, which comes across in your PS and undoubtedly came across in your interviews:
2. You wrote a great application; and
3. Your EMT experience demonstrates your commitment to healthcare.
Aw thank you! The way I wrote my essays and clinical experience was definitely very helpful!
I took a gap year and unfortunately applied late (sent out my first secondary in September). I wanted to get a job to build more experiences, but I literally got rejected from every single job or didn’t hear anything back but on the flip side I just got accepted into my first MD school! Watched this video right before the acceptance email came in and it made me optimistic. Loved it!
Yay! That’s amazing, congrats!
Yayyy...am so happy for you. Congrats 🎉🎉.
Awesome story :)
It’s crazy how a difference of 7 points on the MCAT can bring you from 68th percentile to 94th percentile. The 20 points between 508 and 528 really make or break a lot of students. Each point is a hurdle to overcome.
Nah, 523 here probably about to apply for a third cycle. Schools don't care about MCAT after like 516/517
@@sebucwerd 523!!!? thats an insane score, you should be able to get into a school
@@sebucwerd agreed 518, applied 20 schools, accepted into one. The score does not matter past a certain point
Thanks Captain Obvious
@@sebucwerd what's holding you back?
You worked so hard and had such a good result.
dont get fooled, you either have a high GPA or a high MCAT and often times a high MCAT holds more weight
agreed
you can’t have both?
@@j4yla959 you can have both it’s possible
Yup
That's common knowledge which is why perfect grades don't matter. If you have a low GPA but a high admissions score there's a good chance you're going to get in somewhere because admissions exams hold more weight than GPAs. It's the same with law school. I went to undergrad with a girl who graduated with a 2.8 GPA but she got a perfect score on the LSAT and now she's a law student at UPenn.
Super thoughtful for posting this!
I’m not even going to medical school but I still watched the video because it motivates me to study hard lolll
you're awesome for putting this out to the public. and congrats on your success, you seriously deserve it. such an inspiration
Thanks so much!! :)
I cannot thank you enough for this video. I’m a pre-med junior in college and I’ve been in such a slump all day because I have my first physics exam tomorrow and the professor is notoriously bad about making exams impossible. Your calm demeanor and success despite making a few Bs and Cs here and there has calmed me down so much! Thank you!
You're so welcome, glad I could help! :)
Congratulations!!! You give me hope! So proud of your accomplishments
Aw thanks so much!
Hey, just wanted to say great video! It is inspiring to see someone who started out a little rough in school get so many acceptances as my freshman year still haunts me. Keep up the great work and Congrats on so many acceptances! :)
Thank you so much!!
I love love love your videos. You tell it like it is and not sugarcoat stuff. You also have great editing skills. You give hope to us students who doesn’t have strong grades/GPA.
Thank you!! The editing credit goes to my editor haha but yes I love telling it like it is!
I just wanted to say thank you for sharing this. It really gives me some motivation to apply early since my grades are similar to yours and I'm studying for the MCAT now. VERY much appreciated and I am so happy for you !!!!! Congrats!!!
Thanks so much!! Best of luck with applying!
I love how your experience is relatable and honest.Just subscribed and excited to watch your med school journey
Aw thanks so much!! :)
you’re my new favorite RUclipsr!! i am in such a similar boat gpa-wise, I’m also an EMT and i graduate this spring to start my gap years. I have been having a ton of doubts recently, but it’s videos like this that help me realize i can still do this. Thank you so much!!
Aw so glad to hear! Best of luck with applying!
Hey Maggie! Thanks for this video, it’s very reassuring to me. Im a non trad. Being 26 currently my freshman year of college. I can also say it is tough working while being in school, so I too told my boss that I could only work certain days. Great video and I hope to see more updates with your journey.
Good for you, requesting less work was so helpful for me! Best of luck with your journey!
It was so refreshing to watch your video. I'm looking to apply to medical school a year or two after I graduate and I already feel constantly stressed about everything I'm doing to prepare for that. Keep making videos!
So happy it was refreshing! It is definitely a stressful process, but you can do it!
Thank you so much for uploading. I really loved hearing your story. I started college strong and then ended it super weak GPA wise. =( I am lost as what to do now that I graduated but I am more hopeful after hearing about your success. Congrats and wish you the best in medical school!! ♡
Thanks so much! You should definitely check out Dr. Gray’s YT channel, podcasts, and books! All his free resources were what helped me to figure out what to do after I graduated!
This is insanely helpful thank you so much! I'm also an EMT with a slightly lower MCAT score but this gives me hope for applying this June! You should be so proud of yourself!
Thanks so much!!
Really appreciate how open you are to even show your AMCAS application. You always hear about people saying they had low or high GPAs/MCATs but they never show. Thanks for sharing and Congratulations
Thank you! It was helpful for me to see videos like this before applying so I’m happy to be open and help other premeds!!
I was a little bit overwhelmed by the title of the video, but I'm glad I watched it. It was reassuring to hear you applied again, three years later! thank you so much for sharing your experience :) it gives me a lot of hope as a non-trad!! Congrats on getting into medical school!!!
Thanks so much! And yes, I definitely took quite the long path to get here haha. Best of luck with your premed journey!
you have such an amazing spirit and your so great to listen to because of your smile. Felt like i was listening to a friend. Thanks Maggie! Congratulations!
Aw, thanks so much! :)
Thank you so much for sharing this. I appreciate your transparency so much. I am wishing you the best of luck in your future. Congrats on all your acceptances, you truly deserve each and every one of them.
Aw you are so nice to say such kind words! Thank you so much!! :)
You're my hero, this opened up my eyes because I'm pretty much struggling with a lower gpa after having to deal with online school 😅
You just gained a new subscriber. I’m a premed student who is also a Non-traditional one. I’ll be applying for med school when I’m 24/25 and seeing you get in really lifts up my spirits.
That is awesome, best of luck with applying!
Applied for Med School after my first year at University and didn't get in, so I decided to do a BSc in Anatomy. I finished my last paper in Jan this year and now I'm three weeks into Med School:) You can do this! Never give up!
That's amazing!

Wow you are the first transparent applicant video I have watched. Thank you so much! I wish you well !! 💗💗
Thanks so much!! You are welcome :)
You don’t understand how much this video made the application process look less daunting, Thank you so much
You’re welcome!!
This video is great motivation. I was a EMT as well prior and didn’t have a good college gpa. I then joined the military and work as a clinical lab tech while taking college courses and shadowing other providers around the hospital. I think everyone takes different routes to reach the same goals!
There a definitely plenty of different paths you can take! Totally agree :)
Just curious what was your gpa and have you been accepted to med school yet ?
Im so inspired ❤️. Im currently a pre-med junior in college and I started off with a not so great gpa too but you give me so much hope!!
I'm so glad! And having an upward trend will help you tons, best of luck!!
Thank you very much for sharing! You’re helping so many people 🥰
You are absolutely welcome!! It’s a hard process, I love doing anything to make it just a little bit easier!
We definitely need a video on that personal statement and how you wrote about your experiences in work in research
Will definitely do a personal statement video! Last week's video was all about my EC descriptions, you should check it out!
You are so down to earth
Thank you so much, I will always come back here to fix up my path, almost finished with emt school as a community college sophomore. Best of luck
Thank you! Best of luck to you as well!
You are literally so amazing everyone on RUclips gets one B and says they had a low gpa but this gave me so much hope thank you!
Haha you’re welcome!
Well done! I love hearing success stories.
Thank you!!
This one video itself encouraged me to like and subscribe to your page. Finally, someone who doesn’t have a 4.0 gpa and 99th percentile MCAT. Love your transparency can’t wait to see more!
Glad you liked it! I know others being transparent has helped me along the way so I’m happy to do the same!
Thank you for sharing! Congratulations! Good Luck in medical school!
WOW!! Congrats!!! That is a GREAT application season!
Thanks so much!!
Also love the intro to your personal statement!!!
Thank you!!
thanks for this video , really served as a motivational purpose with full details that aren’t being provided to us nowadays 💘
You are so welcome!!
Thank you for sharing this. You are awesome. I appreciate your honesty and vulnerability in sharing your story. :)
Love your transparency. You are not your grades!
Thank you for making video on this topic!
Congrats Maggie! Such a great video, I appreciate your journey as a non-traditional student !
Thank you!!
This is inspiring. Especially since I did not know I wanted to go to med school until my junior year. I also had an unfortunate problem with my medication my sophomore year, which made me sleep for 16 hours a day, I ended up missing classes and failing, not to mention I had a job. But my junior year I got my dose fix and got my act together, and I currently have all As so far my spring semester. Hope I can turn this around!
wow, congratulations on your acceptances!! so inspiring
Thanks so much!! :)
I'm 23 (turning 24 this year) and will be applying for a 2nd time after scribing in the ER for a year and honestly this makes me feel so much better knowing that there will be other people my age and older who also took some time off from undergrad. Thank you so much for sharing your journey !!
You are welcome! During my interviews I was rest assured by many students that there is definitely a wide age range and plenty of non-traditionally students as well as traditional! Some are married with kids, career changers, served in the military first, etc. You will for sure have plenty of classmates in the future that are your age!
I'm 29 and I just got into med school!
Non-trad Firefighter/Paramedic premed. Your story really connected with me and was the encouragement I needed during a tough time. Thanks(:
Aw so happy that my video helped, best of luck with your premed journey! By the time you get into med school you will definitely have some amazing experiences that will help you become an even better doctor in the end!
I'm a fourth year medical student and I think YOU ARE AMAZING, subscribed👍
Aw thanks so much!!

Congrats Maggie!! You seem so sweet, you are going to be such an amazing doctor! I also applied this cycle and will be matriculating in the fall :)
Thanks so much! That is awesome that you will be starting med school as well!!
Loved the vid!! At least I know there’s still hope now!
Definitely hope!!
Congrats on your acceptances and wishing you much success in the future! I also attended and graduated from Mississippi College in December 2020 with a Master's in biomedical sciences. Last year was my first time applying to medical school, and still waiting to hear back from school's whether they will extend me an invitation to interview. I submitted my application around July, and in retrospect I should have submitted sooner! If I need to apply again this year, will definitely apply as early as possible!
Oh cool what a small world! And yea, I think applying early definitely helps! Best of luck!!
I got one C in my freshman year and I thought my premed track was totally over. Ty for this post! Theres still hope! Lol
Totally still hope!!
I recommend Wake Med!! I am an undergraduate at WFU and I have been to a lot of events with the medical students and they all love it, Wake is amazing!
That is good to know!! Thank you! :)
Wow congratulations!! Thank you so much for sharing. You really are a rockstar!
Haha I don’t know about rockstar, but thank you!
You’re a pretty good writer! I like that I didn’t feel like you were selling.
Thanks so much! ☺️
Thanks so much for sharing things
You're so welcome! Best of luck applying next year!
Thank you so much for sharing your story! The compassion you have for others is evident with the care you take to explain everything and upload multiple helpful videos. Applying in the coming cycle, and your videos help so much!
Glad they help! Thanks so much!
You are amazing. I am officially following everything you say. I stumbled upon this video because of it being in my recommendations (been searching medical school-related stuff as of late like an absolute madman!) even though I'm Canadian.
I'm a first year undergraduate student myself and I've been out of any type of post-secondary school for a few years. My marks overall are not the greatest, and this video gives great insight. When you briefly discussed not knowing what you wanted to do - that was my life up until a year ago. Long story short, I had a personal experience that made me want to pursue medicine. This is my first step. But since starting in September, I've been solely focused on the GPA aspect of it all. In my mind, if I'm not averaging like an A in every class and an overall like 3.5GPA, I feel like a total failure. So this video gives me hope
Aw I’m so glad to hear this video has helped you. You definitely don’t have to be perfect to get into medical school!! And those aren’t my words... if you don’t already listen to the podcast called All Access: Medical School Admissions, you should check it out and listen to episode 37!
If you are not getting an A then maybe you should look for videos on how to study and maybe can boost your grades from B to A.
Great job. Currently studying for the May MCAT.
Thanks! Best of luck with your MCAT studying!
You'll be a great doctor!! Best of luck!
Aw thanks so much!!

Thanks so much! Happy it gave some inspiration! :)
Awesome, loved the vid!!
Thanks so much!
RUclips recommended I watch your video and by some happenstance I just finished up at MC too, though I never had the courage to take OChem with the professor you did. Thanks for all the tips though, I just went through my rejection year, and I'm going to be applying again in May so hopefully I'll be following in your footsteps.
If you still want to go the Military/Government Route via another means besides USUHS, the HPSP scholarship will allow you to achieve the exact same goal, full school paid off and a stipend (~$2500/month). Just know there's a 1-to-1 service requirement.
What a small world! Best of luck with reapplying!
UURE SO INSPIRING! THANK YOU FOR THIS
Aw haha thanks so much!!
Wow, accepted to TEN medical schools?! 🎉 You gave me hope!
Ah also got into CUSOM this year! Congrats on your success this cycle... really inspiring! Maybe we'll be classmates soon :)
That’s so awesome! Yes, maybe we will!!
congratulations! I also posted a video talking about my AMCAS app (specifically the MD/PhD aspect) and the split screen tool you used would have been super helpful. Thanks for sharing!
I'm applying to my alum mater CSUEBs post bac this year. Super cool to see you went there!
Oh awesome! Just sign up for classes the minute registration opens! I guess you might already know that if you went there for undergrad lol but there were a few classes I didn’t get bc they cap them at 25!
@@itslifebymaggie thanks for that! I graduated in 2015 so it's been a while so thanks for the heads up. Did you end up just waiting for the next semester to take the classes you need or do a few at a CC? I've hear of people doing that when they couldn't get a class.
I just took random classes to fill my schedule. The first quarter I only got two classes and couldn’t get in any others so I just start working part time and waited for the next quarter. Luckily I got full time the 2nd quarter, but still not the classes I wanted. BUT my main problem was that my loan money wasn’t going through, so I would sign up and get the classes I wanted, then get dropped bc my tuition wasn’t paid, and by the time everything was squared away I had very little options!
You're a legend!
Haha I don't know about that, but thank you for the compliment!
Omg Congrats!!!
Thank you!!
Watching your video gave me hope, thanks for sharing
You are so welcome! Best of luck in your premed journey!!

Omg Dr. Selby was one of my faves! He was my advisor and Ochem professor!
@@itslifebymaggie he's my advisor and my Ochem professor as well!
Love this story! In the pre med community there is this notion that you have to get perfect grades and its simply not true! Can you make a more detailed MCAT prep video? 516 is phenomenal!!
Definitely not true! And thank you! I have a video on my MCAT prep already on my channel and will do one specifically on CARS in the future!
You are so Inspiring!!!
Awe thank you!!
Congratulations!! I have an IA as well but it was because the professor accused everyone in the class (120+ students) and the school couldn’t determine if who did cheat and who didn’t (I didn’t) so everyone got a university warning. I have a good explanation to what happened despite it not showing up on my transcript. Kinda sucks Bc it wasn’t my fault or anyone else’s except for the few students who upload the exam online. Have a 3.5 currently with an upward trend and taking the mcat in September!
Wow that is unfortunate! I was so worried I wouldn't hear back from a single school bc of mine, but it ended up being okay! Best of luck with your MCAT in September! :)
This was great! Thank you for sharing your application. Can you please do a video with tips and how you created the list of schools you applied to?
Absolutely! I already have this on my list to cover. Great suggestion!
Congratulations!
Thank you!
You are a blessing thank you for sharing 😍
aw thank you, you're so welcome! 💕
If you can afford to relocate, there are 3 affordable science programs in North Carolina. Non-State residents are charged $2500 per semester. That’s right! Increase your CGPAs and SGPAs and go forward to MD/DO SOM. The 3 UNC-System universities are Elizabeth City State University, UNC-Pembroke and Western Carolina University. Also, head out to Texas where the proliferation of new medical schools are occurring.
This gives me so much hope bc I had a lot of concussions and medical stuff my first two years of undergrad that really set me back. But I’m at Virginia tech now studying nanomedicine and doing well and I wanna go to our DO school which i think I can apply under the guaranteed interview thing which is nice
That’s awesome! Best of luck!!
