I liked seeing Kipchoges form change from a younger Kipchoge to an older one. Maybe marathon form is different than 5k form, but it is still interesting. Great videos keep going!
Just visited these videos really well put together the debates will run on and on as to who's the best of all time I grew up during the Coe, Overt and Cram era Sebastian Coe was well ahead of his time his 800m record stood for 30 years!!
You should do a runner who's not great and analyze them as to where they fall short. Like kamworwor or someone who's good and always in the top 5 or 6 but can't seem to medal
Jaymes Cole Kamworwor won the half marathon world championships a couple times, and he won the world cross country championship twice, and he won the junior race before that.
Jackson Shorten an very late in the game but the mention of Kamworor in this comment made me laugh out loud too... he is one of less than 5 athletes who can keep up with Kipchoge in training
Alex Stolz Thanks! I definitely wanted to add a different element to my videos. If you ever have any recommendations I’d love to look into them. Thanks for watching!
I agree with everything except the Adaptation. World Junior Cross Country gold medalist, 12:46 5000m which makes him one of the top 8 fastest of all time and then moving seamlessly onto the road. 9/10 is good yes but our man deserves a 10. Great channel though. Really enjoying your content and passion for running.
I like the scoring system, although I feel like there is an improvement possible. I feel like it would be better to award less 10/10's as you are comparing the best with the best. I mean, of course Farah's PB's are impressive, but they are not at the same level as Kipchoge. Still they get the same score. The other way around for championship performances of these two legends: Farah deserves a better score then kipchoge imo. But anyway, it's your channel and you're doing a great job so keep it up!
Savage Denolbaard Yea I totally understand what you’re saying. Overall, Farah certainly has a better championship performance resumé, but I’ll be honest, it was hard not to give Kipchoge a 10 based on his marathon performances over the past 5 years. If Kipchoge hadn’t been so dominant in the marathon then yes, he certainly wouldnt have gotten a 10. It’s a tough call though so I understand. Thanks for watching!
What can we learn from your ranking? Nothing, those number are only in your head, everybody has his own opinion...make a video that is gonna be instructive....
Farah, to my mind, isn’t anywhere near Kipchoge and Bekele. His kick is great but hasn’t served him much in the marathon. No WRs. Mental toughness? How hard is it to hold back in a race and kick at the end? Compared to Haile’s world records on the track and roads? And Bekele’s inconsistency in the marathon also gave me pause. I’d still put Haile above him. Just my own 2 cents’ worth. Great video.
There is no way Kenenisa Bekele is better than Eliud Kipchoge,Kenenisa is a one of the best, but Kipchoge is a G.O.A.T.Winning 12 out of 13 marathons, winning 5 consecutive London marathhons, winning a gold medal at 18 in 2003,breaking the world record by a minute and 18,being the first man to run under 2 hours although not official, name them.SIR ELIUD KIPCHOGE IS A G.O.A.T no debate.
I have one nitpick about this list, and that’s the 10 score Kenenisa receives for “Mental Toughness”. I was a HUGE Bekele fan during his dominant period spanning roughly 2003-2010, before he started struggling with injuries and inconsistent training. However, I noticed that Kenenisa had a habit of dropping out of races where he was performing badly, particularly in marathons. His mentor Haile was known for pushing through pain and running even when not fully prepared, but it seemed Bekele would frequently just quit when it was evident he wasn’t going to cotend for a win. I understand this was probably wrought of frustration after being the best in the world for so long, but it bespeaks his lack of mental toughness. I have incredible respect for his abilities and for his times, he’s my favorite distance runner of all time, but Bekele doesn’t deserve a 10 in that category.
I love your channel but I'm not gonna lie, I lost a little respect when I saw Mo Farah with the same score as Heile Gebrselassie, a guy who set over 25 world records in many different events to a guy who has 1 world record in the indoor 2 miles. Imagine Gebrselassie wearing the nike 4% during his marathon career and forget it lol.
I am so glad to kipchog For me, races are the celebration of my training." "Runwhen you can, walk if you have to, crawl if you must; just never give up." "Every race is a question, and I never know until the last yards what the answer will💖💚💜
wout Kerkaert Thanks so much! I really appreciate your comment. At the moment I’m not doing too many running vlogs, but I definitely plan to in the future! Thanks for watching!
I have had an issue with this analysis since I saw it last year. Kipchoge out sprinted Mo in 2012 over 2 miles. His kick in London was also phenomenal, for the end of a marathon. Clearly not like Sammy Wanjiri at Chicago, but phenomenal nonetheless. The shadow of the Nike Oregon Project hangs over all it's former members, including Mo, who has not really made the transition to the marathon as well as was expected and has just announced he's going back to the track. I think you should revisit some of these analyses. Also, what about the other great Australians, Robert de Castella (first World Marathon Champion, Boston Marathon winner and the only athlete to finish in the top 10 at five consecutive Olympic Marathons) and Steve Moneghetti (who won Berlin in 1990 and just broke the M55 15k World Record, by over a minute - now that's longevity!).
His high "back kick” is the reason why he runs smoothly, tiptoes easily and why breaks records. I would rate that a 10. Don't forget that for a long distance runner, anything that happens "after" ( the kick back) touching the ground determines your velocity . For a sprinter at shorter distances it is the opposite, than you focus on high kneels and for the long distance runner it is the back flip
You're a bit confused with the terminology. Running economy refers to what happens within the cardiovascular system of a runner. You should use the words technique or running mechanics, etc.
Well i agree that your scoring system aims to disect the performance of runners career, which in a certain way tries to predict the if the runner will be mentioned over 100+ years... I will give you on paper that you can probably cross out all of those names except Kipchoge, if he gets under 2 hours of marathon running. If he runs 1.59.59 He will be for sure be mentioned in 2120, while all those other runners will almost for sure be forgotten by the majority of humankind. So the score of Kipchoge can go up to be 100/100, and the others 70?-80?/100, pure on gut feeling.
Great video! Is it possible to see the full list of “Elite Distance Runner Rankings”? If there’s no link, could you send it? Thanks a lot, great work! Happy “Global Running Day!” (June 2)
None of the other runners can touch Eliud Kipchoge. Mo Farah tried at the London Marathon. And they're tied at 98?? Look at K. Bekele, he dropped out at one of the marathons last year. And he scored a perfect 10!!
how can you put mo Farah above kipchoge ,he wins races somehow he doesn't have guts neither he has impressive time over any distance. he is fortunate to have run against 2nd class runners(when he competed against Bekele and others they were not at their best ). average Kenyan runners is faster than mo Farah at almost every distance.
Hi, Great channel. However, Mo Farrah is no where near Kipchoge at all. You need to come back again with different analysis, otherwise your channel is great.
Correct me if Im wrong but I believe Farah is the 11th fastest person ever over the 1,500 meters (3:28.81) and he’s the 16th fastest person ever over 10,000 meters (26:46). Again, I may be wrong here but alltime-athletics.com gives the list of all time performances. Also, it helps to understand that certain athletes have run multiple races faster than Farah’s personal best over each distance, so it appears he’s farther down the list than he really is. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
I guess I had read it as "top 30 fastest performers" as in "individual runners," so for that I was mistaken, true. However, Mo Farah's 10,000 meter performance is the 28th fastest of all time according to the same website, and his 2 mile performance is the 12th fastest performance of all time with his 8:07 from 2014 in Birmingham.

He knew that he had to take a different path if he wanted to continue being an elite athlete that represented Kenya in championships and he did it seamlessly. Andre Moraliz Good question. I think for me the reason came down to how many British and European records he has combined. These include the 1500 (3:28-amazing), the 3,000 (7:32) the indoor 3k, the 2 mile(8:07), the indoor 2 mile (WR-8:03), the 5,000 (12:53), the indoor 5k, the 10,000, the half marathon and the full marathon. To have all of those combined alone is incredible, but considering Great Britain has a rich history of distance running it’s difficult to argue against a 10 for sir Mo.
@@TotalRunningProductions But, the scoring is comparing world performances. Sorry, European distance records are easier to break than world records, hence Mo gets an 'easier' route to a 10 score. He is a great athlete, but NOT THAT Great.
First of all before we start give him a 100% running marathon below 2hr (1hr 59min 40sec ) dude scientist said this could happen in 2070 or which year and he did it ohhh! no 100%
Bekele is way too high. You need to deduct points for his DNFs. Sure, maybe 1 DNF when he fell could have been excused. But he has a few DNFs like when he run a marathon and feels like he is not going to podium, then he rather get DNF than getting 6th or 8th. Unlike Kipchoge, he just never have any bad marathons. Would you consider his 2nd place finish behind Wilson Kipsang a disappointment? Or his gold at Rio, his slowest marathon compared to all the others a failure?
I think you videos are great but you totally wrong at the scoring Eliud kichoge no one of the other's runners are been under 2:24 only to hold that pace was so hard for the half marathon champion. Yout can see the Eliud is so superior in every aspect.
I personally will put Kenenisa Bekele on top of my list. Followed by Eliud Kipchoge, Haile Gebrselassie and Hicham El Guerrouj. Kenenisa have done fantastic races in the WC cross country. also. He was fantastic on the track, still holding the WR and OR for 5000 and 10000 meters. And also the champinchip record in WC for 10000 meters. And the 3rd fastest time in marathon. I of course love Eliud Kipchoge too, he absolutely fantastic! But anyway; it's great that we're discussing this, and I love the format of these videos. And the knowledge behind the presentations are brilliant.
You need to improve your scoring system. Cause you have to admit, you were trying to avoid giving him the "perfect 100". You really can't justify the nines, cause what's the difference between a 9 kick and a 10 kick. The only difference I see is the judge's intent. Here's what you can do. Set a high index not yet attained by any runner and work down from there. For example, perfect cadence, 200; perfect speed, 20km/h. Then your subjective matrix of grit, etc. Weight the scores. Also, include variance and consistency, i.e. best performance against overall performance. This would be a lot of work though.
The format of these videos is literally perfect
Hillbilly Jack Thanks! It took a few attempts at trial and error but I feel pretty good at the current system! Thanks for watching!
