Hey my significant other is a digital artist, it's still done by hand, the computer doesn't ink the art automatically for you it just gives you tools to make the process easier, I feel it's a common thing to dislike digital art cause it's digital, it's done ON a computer not BY a computer. love your videos, they are doing a lot to get me into traveller!
It's probably not worth getting. The version before this was almost broken and required constant rules discussions and overhauls by our group when we played it for over a year, and i mean constant. It was like they didn't test the game at all. They did change rules in this one, not just the aesthetic, but i could still find problematic passages in here when i flipped through that remain unchanged from the previous edition. However, if you REALLY want to play Traveller, i don't know if there's a better option to do it with than this. Which is really sad for an almost 50 year old franchise.
I've done many Traveller videos on the core rules including looking at all the occupations for travellers. Take a look under the Traveller playlist and you'll see them.
@@rory7590 I'm not talking about graphics but CORE RULES. The RULES are ELEGANT. The graphics don't make a game. By any means. Especially a game like Traveller where there is no shortage of graphics to view if you want to know what an X looks like.
Veteran RPG gamer and GM. Age has also made reading a physical book a bit harder. But I always like to have the core rules of any RPG in a physical format. Any other recommendations on which books to get physical vs PDF. I plan on starting out with Core Rules, Central Supply Catalog, Robots and Behind the claw. Am I missing anything essential? Thanks for this channel and your commentary.
The best thing about Traveller is the lack of hit points and the fact that characters are fragile. Humans when presented with bullets tend to be fragile. If they don't like it, they need to stop being so gung-ho and find other solutions than violence. I love the way Traveller's are fragile and need to think (and RP) much more than other games.
I am re-posting my comment. I also like this book and think it is most excellent. I think it is a very good thing this update includes ship design rules. I think it is a very wrong marketing ploy not to include them in the original version. However, this edition fixes that and that is a commendable change. There is some discussion about Cepheus Deluxe below. I was a playtester for the writers and am also their friend. A whole lot of heart went into that system and it really was greatly influenced by us playtesters. It has great rules but is now a game all on its own and is not Traveller. It just uses the core 2D6 engine. No the artwork is black and white but the rules are very good. Mongoose has high quality art and an obligation to be Traveller and hold to core Traveller idealism. That is the only difference. Both are exceptional in their own way.
I very much look forward to your review. Since both games are relatives of the same mechanics I think it may have the answers to some of the adjustments you would like to make to your Traveller game.
@@mnkyj9 I actually don't have 2e, I only bought the 2022 Update, so I can't tell you the differences between the two products. That being said, I love the 2022 Update.
Mongoose has switched to a girl-centric model. Not sure why. Traveller's customer base has always been white male. They also chose to go full on with BS lighting in their artwork. Again, trying for another demographic that doesn't play Traveller. Traveller 5 is complete (with the 5.10 printing). But like you said, no support.

If Mongoose Traveller 2nd Edition Update had the same graphic design and layout of Cepheus Deluxe, fans would be bitterly complaining about it.

@@protonneutron9046 The core Cepheus Engine rules are a clone with a few added tweaks. The current Mongoose Traveller rules are more elegant.

Keep in mind there are low tech, low tech level worlds that would be absolutely using those melee weapons.

I heard that the ability mods are different from mongoose 2e? Is that true?
Having a zero stat is only -2 not -3 as in Mongoose. Other than that they are the same.

Is the Pirates of Drinax campaign compatible with 2e and the 2022 Update?
Yes, it was published for 2nd and you can play it with either 2e or the 2022 update.
