- It's been a dream of mine to get a painting from this shop in Nikko, Japan and I finally got to watch the artist paint one from start to finish in person! Enjoy the video!

The best thing about this, being an artist myself, is seeing the quality of the brushes. :-)
Thanx for this video. What an incredibly talented artist. I was simply blown away by his amazing work.
The kanji written under the dragon is 守護 in a very nice cursive style, meaning "Protection/Guardianship". The quality and techniques are fantastic, personally I think the gold streak he drew over the dragon to intend clouds or so gets in the way of appreciating the dragon a bit, but it's done well so it doesn't bug me too much
Omg those golden details make it pop so much. I love everything about this!
That is soooo crazy, i can't really wrap my head around how insanely cool that was. With one freaking stroke he painted a hole 2 toned body with scales and all (yeah yeah he stopped some, but he never lifted the freaking brush). Soooo good!! Thanx for filming it, love from Sweden!
It's exactly the point of the technique to not lift the brush, and keep steady, otherwise there will be a break in the body pattern and it will not look natural, just like how you would not lift your pencil half-way through writing the number 1
Yeah yeah he stopped, like for a fraction of a second while he turned the paper. Isn't black paint part of the body?
A lot of it is in loading the paint onto the brush to get multiple colors, the other part is the start and stop dragging of the brush to make it look like scales. In the late 90's I came across a lady teaching one stroke painting, but it was mostly florals, leaves, petals, that kind of thing.
Thanks for posting! I am just mesmerized by this artist. I've watched a number of videos of him painting dragons. I appreciate that you also showed him loading his brushes. Many of them don't. It's interesting to see how he gets the colors he does.
ok i also love his drawing style, dragon painting is my passion. thanks because i was able to learn more
Please can you give me his account
Whaaaaat!!!? That's nuts man!
The most insane thing about this is that the artist makes this look incredibly easy.
Gotta love the old-school “airbrush” work @12:13 using the most ancient tools for doing so.
I love all dragon art. In Japan there are many great artists whom have many ways of doing their pictures.

I bought one of these in Niko 20 years ago. Glad he/they are still painting
Sorry... I don't recall. But it's way more beautiful than I paid... and I'm cheap! Lol
@xTheTorNando Last time I was there (about 3 years ago) the small ones like he's painting were about $25. I have two, one from 2009 and one from 2018.
Your table is so shinny, I want to play with it, looking so relaxing. And you do art freely. This is surprising.
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS....I LOVE JAPANESE ART AND DRAGONS, THANKS FOR SHOWING HOW YOU DO THOSE DIFFERENT BRUSH STROKES. I LOVE IT HOW YOU USED MULTIPLE COLORS ON THIS WIDE BRUSH, WHAT FOR A NICE EFFECT.....TFS....:)
SEHR SCHÖNES BILD 👍😊❤️ DER DRACHE IST EINFACH WUNDERBAR 🤩

Most beautiful Japanese dragon 🐉 😍
Me: Okay, I’m gonna draw tonight!
Me after seeing this video: *gets depressed* nevermind then..
I had exactly the same emotional journey. Given that this shop is in Nikko, my guess is that this person most likely began apprenticing when they were 12-14 years old and studied with a master and now has the ten thousand plus hours put in that allowed them to become an expert. I’ve found that rule does apply in reality. The thing they don’t tell you about those hours is that the first 8,500 hours are very difficult to get through. The doubts, the self-criticism, the cringe-worthy attempts at greatness. It’s no easy task and becoming free with my art and learning to allow it to be authentic tic is one of the very hardest things I have ever done.
Comparison is the thief of joy!
Don't give up!!

Fantastic.... !
I swear, artist in Japan have secret powers that we don't know about! (btw i love your art)
Its called the power of sight. In the west we see mainly through eyes filtered through an unconscious ego driven mind. my lord.
Great
It is amazing to the fine details.
I am painting dragons and tigers in Japan. Draw while bleaching the cloth.
amazing I love it the best
São Paulo Brasil
Estou aprendendo a desenhar com esse método.
Gratidão
Brilliant!
woow awesome.
when i was a child, may be 8-10 years old, i can always see the artist in park drawing this dragon, and sold the picture, so many artists in so many parks doing the same picture. so i'm not surprised.i think this skill is just normal, by the way ,i'm from china
i'd be holding my breath the whole time
Vẽ con rồng sống động và có hồn lắm!
That move with the brush to make the tail was just nuts. I wonder how long it took him to figure that out?
It's a technique that's been used by people for quite some time.
ficou muito da hora sou fã de dragões
I love the dragon
Very, very good
awesome
Seriously can I buy one of these masterpieces?
Very nice 👍🏼👍🏽
just wow .......
So how long you drew that for?
Oh..just 17 minutes
What does it say beside the dragon? That is so beautiful!
I want that thing on My back, thats Awesome
Wow wow wow. I like the technic of your brush movement towards the tail end of the dragon. It is so so beautiful, I like to buy a dragon art from you. Same size. Where can I view your work for sale on the internet?
I like to try I love dragons but I do not have steady hands, to do that is needed a lot of practise Amazing drawing. Japanese artists very skilful in details and handcraft
Nice!
NICE dragon
I bought one of these on my trip to Nikko and I feel really lucky about it!
I do not see the dragon. The control you have over the brush is amazing.
I wonder how did he do the scales thats awsome
WOW!!
After making a thousand of these, you become very good at it. Also, your job becomes very tedious.... O.o
The artist's shirt says TH. Does it stand for Takenaka Hanbei? :3 Because that's the Takenaka Family Crest right in the Middle of it.
thats beutiful
dragon head already come out
Hey what paint is he using ? Is it water colour or oils
nice !
You can see like this, Street of NamDaeMun Market in Seoul, South Korea
Shitttt amazing!!!!!!
When he took that brush and was faffing around with it i was like 'whats he doing being extra'? then he put it on the paper and made the serpents body i was like "WOAH".
I am inspired... I know j won't be able to make anything like this... but I will try for fun.
Awesome💪🤙🏽👍
nice
Pretty dragon looks like the blue dragon
The one that destroys lucipher
I want this
Where do I get a set of brushes that have everything i need to start painting ???
GOD BLESS !!!
wow
that man got the blood of a samurai
Shenlong body and the calligraphy gone amazingly good..but you can do better about shenlong head next time..👍👍
This would be so much more pleasing to watch if it were zoomed in.
I used a magnifying glass and it really helped.
