Yummo! FYI...The reason that Burger King is called Hungry Jacks in Australia is because when Burger king first opened here there was already a small Australian owned chain with the same name. That chain sued Burger King and Burger King was forced to change its name.
Top tip - the large ice cube trays you can get that are marketed to people who want large cubes for spirits typically hold about 80-85g of meat in each section. Convenient way to store mince for burgers in the fridge or freezer. I use them to make it easy to take meat for smash burgers when camping.
Cheers mate - just switched to 4k which should help. I realised that about 65% of viewers actually use their TV to watch (according to RUclips's stats), so I thought it was time to go large. There are some details on the hose reel in my gear page if that helps
As my nearest Golden Arches is either a plane or ferry trip to the mainland so glad you have done these burger vids. I once smuggled a Big Mac on the plane for my wife after being on the mainland for a Macadies fix but after your vids I've been making our own Big Macs using burgers from Macdonald's the butcher here on my island in the Outer Hebrides. Now I am going to have to make an island burger sauce for our Macdonald's
Hungry Jacks and Burger King are totally unrelated and do not share any same Menu Items other than The Whopper, its a long story with leasing the name etc, but in short as its a very long story, Hungry Jacks ended up suing Burger King and won.
Nice video mate. One of the best things about your videos is the use of a tripod. People spinning their gopro around themselves about a foot from their face trying to sell me their merchandise is pretty grating.
I’m out of the country and you tease me with this ...... dam you ..... two weeks to go and then two weeks quarantine before I can test your style...... thanks
Late comment sorry. I have the original bio lite which doesn’t have the fancy grill. I’ve found it good for boiling a billy or a coffee pot. Thought I’d point out that I put the wood in first then make an upside down fire lighting a smaller kindle bundle on the top. I think it’s a bit heavy and a bit of a novelty, I wouldn’t mind trying the base camp model. I think that is much more practical and developed for people who actually need to cook on a fire, but can’t afford the wood.
Nice vid Harry 👍 I've been getting into making my own burgers lately so will be giving these a go! Have you tried the smash burger? They are next level tasty 👌
So glad I subscribed to your channel today. Another great cooking and gear demo. Although I'm not so sure about charging electronics on the BioLite so proximal to the heat and food activity.
I worked at Hungry Jacks for many years, it did suck. But I can tell you how to make any of their burgers. A Whopper is meat first on the heal, 4 pickles, ketchup and onion. The crown is mayo, lettuce then two slices of tomato. The buns are also toasted, and if you ask for cheese the burger gets put into a microwave for a few seconds.
Gday Harry another great video always makes me hungry but this time you had my wife and I laughing our arses of with you comment " sam hasn't had a whopper in 15 years " we are to filthy minded lol please don't take offence
You had me at the "Palate of a 6 year old", but that does look like a nice burger, even though it NEEDS onion and pickles. Now the big mac sauce, I need to try that as thats the one thing I love, but as for ordering a big mac with bacon and tomato - I really have to try that next time!
The burgers are better at Harry joint then👍😎 Always try to attempt the big guys flavours with bbq and always do different but I think better, love the wee bbq, where can 8 purchase?
I noticed you got the air compressor on the biolite, was it not getting hot enough or just speeding it up? Really wanting to get one for biking/hiking. Would you recommend it for that?
How could you forget to restock the fridge with beers 🤣 ahahahaha was classic Also, restaurant idea🤔 Harry's brews and burgers or burgers and brews since you nailed the burger ahahaha
To stop the parafin smell from firelighters, I use curry leaves, rosemary or any other strong smelling shrub/herb that is edible on top of the coals/wood and that seems to get rid of the parafin smell...
My experience with Whoppers in Australia was disappointing to be honest. I had one in Melbourne and can say that they taste quite different than here in North America. My initial thought was that 1) the beef is slightly different and 2) the mayo wasn't the same. But hey, if it tastes like what you are used to- good on ya. For making Big Mac's, each patty shouldn't be larger than a yellow Post-It note (and not much thicker either!) Well done video!
Beautiful part of the world down there. Always cooler than Perth. I surprised Harry doesn't favor the flame-grilled whopper. Maybe flame grill the Big Mac patties. I bet that was a great holiday mate.
Whoa whoa. The rhyme said "2 all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun. Did I or you miss something in those ingredients?
Still can’t help but think the draws and fridge would be better off swooping locations... yes I know you’d loose the door table when the fridge is pulled out I just can’t help but think it would be more user friendly the other way round
They look great but you REALLY need to consider food safety. Using the same board for raw meat and preparation of cooked foods is a Nono. The Biolite with the grill attachment is about $350 worth of kit; they’re great but pricey.
Fun facts....Hungry Jacks was bought to Australia by 'Jack Cowin'. Hungry Jacks is a franchise of the Burger king corp. Burger king did try to launch in Australia but failed this was after hungry jacks were already present. In 2001 burger king tried to pull their contract but the courts ruled in Mr Cowins favour. Interesting read
They had to change the name to Hungry Jacks as Burger King name was already taken in Australia. I believe there was a lawsuit as I recall Burger King when I was a kid
Late comment - just watched the video. My only concern is there is a lot of cross contamination of raw meat and the final product. Especially the chopping board.
Get ready to be grossed out. I loved Whoppers until one day in 1988 I ordered a Whopper at the drive through and continued on my way. I was half way through devouring it when I found a pubic hair inside, the hair was embedded amongst the meat and cheese 🤢🤮🤮. I threw it out the car window and It wasn’t until about 2019 that I could bring myself to eat HJs again. Didn’t lodge a complaint, just boycotted HJs for 30 years❗️ Loved the vid 👍🏻
I must say, having been a butcher for 20 years, I can't believe that you guys either believe you are getting or actually specify the cut of beef when you buy mince. Mince is meat trimmings, and should only ever be. You can't get tough mince, so all you need to specify is the species (beef, pork, lamb etc) for the type of flavour you are after, and the level of fat. Fat is flavour but it also melts and runs away when cooked, and some mince meals prefer higher fat content than others. I could not imagine spending $20 per kilo on beef - then mincing it as there really is no need. Leaner mince, finely ground mince but not a cut - just not required. It is as ridiculous as buying an 'Angus' sausage - you cannot taste different breeds, certainly not after it has been manufactured into a sausage. I hope this helps, probs not!
Pretty sure the HJ's thing is due to them (HJ's) not bowing to commercial pressure as they were in OZ before Burger King. Fun fact they are founded in Western Australia
I think there was a burger shop called burger king in Australia before the actual burger king chain store came to Aus. The name was already trademarked here so BK went with Hungry jacks. No idea what happened to the fabled original Aussie BK but as far as I know it's HJ all over the country.
Ah yes the comment on a year old video and cross the fingers for a response. Anyone know what fold out table he’s using? Been looking for a sturdy one for a while now and that looks to fit the bill

@@firetofork Thanks. It was the American Mustard measurement that threw me. 1 and 1/5 Tbsp of American mustard. Is that meant to be 1 and a 1/2 Tbsp?

For true authenticity you need to wait at least half an hour for it to be the correct maccas/hungry jacks temperature

Hungry jacks do toast there buns 😂 well they did when I worked there when I was a young fella
No driving DPFs during fire ban.....
When we owned a take away shop, we found the best pattie was a 70% beef 30% lamb mix. Had to be made up by a butcher though.
11/10 Whopper... he sounds like a keeper Sam! PS: Aldi sell a great “LeBigMac” burger sauce for those that CBF to make their own 🤪
McClure’s Pickles is what you need for your Big Mac
They do toast their buns actually! Atleast at hungry jacks they do, very lightly in an automated toaster 😅
They looked lovely. The issue I can see is when you actually get a burger from those establishments they never quite look that good.
The best thing about living out of town in the bush is not having places like macca's or hj's and it makes you need to cook your own real food.
F2F. A HJ's "Bacon Deluxe" is the best ! Less ingredients vs the BK Whopper and looking forward to your 'Tendercrisp' ? V.
