just a descriptive term for a (somewhat) enlarged sella turcica with no or flattened pituitary tissue in it, a lot of times just an incidental finding, probably secondary to CSF-herniation in the sella through a broad gap in the sellar diaphragm, not leading to clinical symptoms. In other cases secondary to, for instance, surgery, radiation therapy or pituitary apoplexia.
Today's medical students are really lucky to have such an excellent introduction in neuroradiology....😊
