After decades this still remains the more "ancient" sounding soundtrack ever made. No One was able to come close! There Is something magic and mystic in the notes and instruments used.
That's the truth! Basil Poledouris was a genius. This is the best film music of all time.

After listening to this, I crushed my enemies, drove them before me, and listened to the lamentation of their women....
I thought this was the original soundtrack until about 30 seconds in, and then I realized this is the superior version that was recorded years later. Thank you for posting this completely.

Movie making lessons to be learned from Conan the Barbarian.
1. Every sword and sorcery movie must start with a village being pillaged.
2. Special effects are important, but always shoot on location for exterior shots, using real dramatic scenery as your world background.
3. Write your characters to the absolute hilt. Bold, clear motivations, with no ambiguity.
4. Always cast a classically trained theatre actor as your main villain.
5. Make the soundtrack epic, with emphasis on horns, drums and choir. The music must have a primal reaction.
6. If in doubt, more tits and blood the better.
You win the internet today sir. Impossible to improve your list.
#6 is vital, but I would add o e more.
7. Have the protagonist speak few words, and when they do speak, make the words count.

Frank Frazetta, one of the legendary American artist. He shared similar taste in beauty with mine. RIP Frank Frazetta 1928 - 2010. And thank you for the wonderful music.
* The soundtrack music is by Basil Poledouris (as shown in the description ;) ..) One of the most amazing orchestral movie soundtrack pieces ever made in my opinion. Frank Frazetta was just the artist (one of my favorite fantasy artists) who did several Conan comic book drawings/art pieces from 1966 - 1971 which partially inspired the producer Edward Pressman to make Conan the Barbarian in 1982. Frazetta was never credited with any part of the movie making.
I don't know if it's cuz I smoked some white widow and listened to this,or it's some of the best music ever created!!!

On both sides of my family my ancestors were derisively called Savages and Barbarians. I wear those two terms with pride and honor. They survived so that I could honor their memory and continue on. Once in awhile I re-listen to this soundtrack for a shot of sorely needed strength.
War is the mother of all things and the father of all Men. It is through war that old kingdoms are destroyed and new kingdoms are born. It is through war that some Men become kings, others achieve freedom and others embrace slavery.

Thank goodness I found this; the album has completely disappeared from my Amazon Music and Pandora won't let me play the whole album or rewind, grrrrrr! I want to drive my enemies before me and hear the weeping of their women! Yes, I've patroned the hell out of this franchise; I think I've earned a little background masterpiece music with my work, lol!

Anvil of Crom sounds a little different to the original. Anyone know why? I actually kind of prefer it. Sounds more impactful
This isn't the original cut. The original was done by an orchestra in Rome. I believe this was a revisit by an orchestra in Prague. The varese sarabande version has the original orchestra.
