    Ok, so to sum things up: PROS: you can customize it entirely since pages are removable, and the discs are less annoying for left handed people than rings. CONS: because the pages are perforated on the side, there can be some wear and tear after intensive use. And if you want to stuff it with a whole ton of extra pages, you'll need to get larger rings, which some people might find unsightly. That's pretty much it ... 27 minutes long. 😜

    I use clear tapes or washi tape on papers edges when they start to bend to stabilize them then I repunch them. I also use the two types of tapes when I want to punch sheet protectors that are not disc bound punched. The thin plastic tends to stick in my disc punch. I have also just put a sheet of thick paper behind the plastic and then punched and it helped it not to stick. If the material I want to use insists on sticking I just use a single hole punch and then cut a slice toward the center of the hole. It works like a charm.

    What I like about discbound planners is the flexibility to move things around and continue to customize over time. What I don't like is that you can't really use them for long term reference because those little edges around the punched 'holes' will get scrunched up the more you flip back and forth.

    • @JasonBurnettsProfile
      @JasonBurnettsProfile 2 года назад

      The difference is that if you have 10 discs for your binder...before papers start falling out, at least half or more of the paper edges have to get damaged. One damaged clip hole is not going to cause your paper to fall out. The more discs you have, the less likely enough will get damaged that pages will fall out.

    Great comparison video. I agree about the aesthetics of the rings. I'm trying to decide between rings and discs and this has helped a great deal. "It's not their fault" - hysterical.

    Wanted to spread the word to anyone interested in black aluminum discs. There are two websites, Dokibook and Eleven Discs, that offer black metal discs. Of the two, I prefer Eleven Discs because I don't like the center circular cutout found with Dokibook discs. I prefer black discs for most of my discbounds because the parts of the notebook that hold the discs in place are black and I prefer the black-on-black look. I also haven't been able to find colored metal discs that pair up well with certain notebook cover colors. I own discbounds in the following colors: hot pink, royal blue, lime green, seaform green, and mint green and have been using either corresponding colored plastic discs or silver aluminum discs which up until now seemed like my only options. This is no longer true. With the black discs I get a great pairing of color from discs made of reliable material. Also, I own Staples ARC, Levenger CIRCA, and Martha Stewart discbound notebooks and the Eleven Discs expansion discs work well with all of them. The discs are offered in the following sizes: 3/4" (up to 90 sheets of 32 lb paper/120 sheets of standard paper), 1" (110 sheets of 32 lb paper/150 sheets of standard), and 1 1/2" (140 sheets of 32 lb paper/200 sheets of standard). Thank you for the video!

      Natalia Jarvis So sorry for not replying! For some reason your comment didn't show up in my feed, and I've only just seen it. The Discagenda is A5 size while the Levenger one I showed is US half- letter, so the paper size isn't identical, but it's close enough that you can use the two interchangeably.

  • @maryannemoll
    @maryannemoll 7 лет назад +1

    Thanks for the mention! I have to admit that the discbound has always intrigued me, because it does look like one integrated unit. I like that. And there is a psychological triumph in the act of archiving one volume when you're done. I don't get that with ring bound planners because it's one binder forever and ever.
    Also, the exposed binding of the discbound would disintegrate quickly in my case, since I tend to just toss my planner in around. Hence, that is not for me. But I think they look really efficient, and less bulky than a ring bound one, and I think the metal discs look really fabulous.
    I suppose my bang-around way of using binders plus my love for Tomoe River Paper will keep me in the ring bound binders for the foreseeable future. But I will keep watching videos of all kinds of planners and planning styles because they are ❤️.

    • @VeganOrganizer
      @VeganOrganizer  7 лет назад +1

      Yes, discbound planners are great! Something about the look and design of them really appeals to me. As for the exposed binding, Dokibook and the Happy Planner have found a solution to this, with their binder covers - so now you have another reason to try discbound lol! But I totally get the love of Tomoe River paper - that's one of the reasons I'm so devoted to Hobonichi! :)

    • @maryannemoll
      @maryannemoll 7 лет назад

      Ah, the Hobonichi is yet another thing that continues to call out to me. They look really beautiful, and I love that because it's bound, it demands authorial commitment. I've journaled and planned in Moleskines for years, before they changed their paper (which deterred use of fountain pens). And when the paper was good, I was quite happy with the Moleskines.
      Oh, sooo many beautiful planners!

    • @VeganOrganizer
      @VeganOrganizer  7 лет назад +2

      maryannemoll I know what you mean - the pressure of a bound book is intense! I just use Hobonichis for planning so it's not so bad, but with notebooks it's a weighty issue! I'm using a Leuchtturm A5 notebook right now and it takes fountain pen quite well (a Parker 51 with medium nib), but Moleskines are indeed a problem...

    • @maryannemoll
      @maryannemoll 7 лет назад

      Vegan Organizer When I abandoned the Moleskine I switched to the Quo Vadis Habana. It uses Clairefontaine paper and it's glorious with even the wettest fountain pens. You might want to give it a try sometime. One more notebook to add to your stash of things that make you (us) happy. 😁

    Hello, love the video. I really like the Levenger system's looks, and think I'll look at their website. For some reason I'm on their mailing list and they've had a lot of 30% off days recently on their website, with no minimum, so a great time to buy.
    Like you, I am not fond of the ring bound planners, I think because, when you close the rings, it's such a loud snap, and you could really hurt yourself... seems somehow violent. Weird, but... I don't like them. Plus, every ring bound I've tried, even though I use the little tabs to open the rings, the silly things usually end up breaking on me. I also really like the fold-ver ability of the disc planner covers, how convenient. I use a lot of traveler's notebooks, but for work, no, this would be much better. Thank you again! Lots of great information here.

Prior to this video, I watched the unboxing of your Diva which showed that it included a single mushroom punch and a plastic frame or template to insert your own pages. Along with the cover that is a nice bonus for this system. The whole page punches sold by Mambi and Tul equal the cost of the planner. Thank you also for your thoroughness as well.

    • @VeganOrganizer

      Thanks so much for the kind words! The blue notebook is Circa by Levenger. I bought it when I was on a trip to Boston. It's a great notebook, but hard to get outside of the US. Discbound is great for what you're describing - depending on the brand they can be very portable and it's really convenient being able to move the pages around and reorganise. The problem is that some of the best brands in this respect (Levenger and Martha Stewart) aren't really available internationally. However, if you're in the US, I'd recommend either of those - they both come in junior size, which is pretty much the same as A5. If you're in Europe, I've heard that Atoma is a good brand for discbound notebooks, but I've never tried them myself. They're available from www.cultpens.co.uk. And yes, the planner and organising community online is amazing! I was so excited to discover that there are other people out there with a passion for stationery too. Hope this helps, and let me know if you have any other questions!

      Thanks so much! Circa (by Levenger) isn't available in Europe, sadly (though you can order it from Levenger in the US). Atoma and Arc are the discbound brands available in Europe - Arc is from Staples, so it's available in the UK at least, but the covers are polypropylene so they don't look as nice. (They also have leather covered ones but I avoid those). The other option is Dokibook, which comes from China but the shipping isn't that expensive. They're my favourite discbound brand. The discs are metal and very good quality.

      @VeganOrganizer  8 лет назад

      +D Mylasteureka I've punched a couple of pages with the Dokibook punch and it does work, but it's a bit slow and you have to be careful, so I wouldn't want to punch very many pages with it. I think it's only good if you just want to punch a single page occasionally, but not if you want to add pages in regularly or make your own inserts. It's annoying how expensive the Mambi punch is for us in Europe! Grr. I think I will eventually buy it because it will be so convenient and I love the discbound system - but I wish it was cheaper!

    NOT listening to this long babble... a few seconds into it I can tell it will be wordy and laborious...
    Luckily Lisa Kristie summarized it to its true length, 1 minute vs 27...
    Guess what, after watching a few manufacturers presentations, my only question was how solid the pages would remain in the binder and can we remove some of the punches in the puncher tool... and yes the more expensive tools all allow to remove punches! ...less freakin disks to waste/buy.
