- The Miata has been around for over two decades and Mazda has keep to its roots. Under the hood is a naturally aspirated 2.0L inline-4 mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. On the outside of the club you will find forged 17in BBS wheels, extra aero, and LED lighting. On the inside you will be greeted by Recarro seats, a leather wrapped steering wheel and touchscreen infotainment. Is the 2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata Club an ULTIMATE sports car WORTH the price?

The numbers may not sound impressive but this is one of the cars that change your mind once you sit behind the steering wheel
This is very true!
Nah… like a hot girl but not much can offer beyond that.
Yes indeed… my experience exactly!!
Absolutely ! And I had the 1st edition 1997 mx5 M-edition what a fun car to drive !!!
@@tascanivelo8156 yeah that when I fell in love with it in 1997 I. Red & black
If you’ve never driven a Miata, drive one. Absolutely amazing to drive.
You are so very right about that!
Here for the TWINKIES 😎
You came to the right place!
@@RaitisRides I’m just saying… I would buy Raiti’s Ride Twinkie merch….
Just bought my 2022 SRC BBR last week. My type R hasn’t moved since. I LOVE this car.
I know how you feel!
Just sold my type r to buy a Miata. I have a NB and was like I need another Miata lol.
Great work as always..not a car guy but I enjoy your sense of humor and passion..much love always
This is such a perfect car, manual top with a flick of a latch on both start and finish, manual seats.
I kind of wish they eradicated the automatic windows to save 40 or 50 lbs.
Other than that, it's perfect.
I love my 2020 Miata RF so much. If you are on the edge of getting one, just do it. 🤩
3 years ago I was looking at some 2019 Corvettes because they were the last of the manuals but I never pulled the trigger. Now I think I might just get a ND Miata and save myself 30k+
You can drive it 10/10 without killing anyone but yourself.
Not to mention the money you'll save on gas and maintenance
Have owning 2 Corvettes you wont miss anything the average Corvette owner never uses 1/2 of what that car is capable of so why have it ... save the money and the old man Corvette image ...
I've never looked at a Miata and thought "that's a cool looking car" but I genuinely like this. 👍
This is the one Anthony!
I totally agree... With those BBS wheels and the brembo brakes... Once you add the retractable hardtop, even though it does add a little bit of weight, it looks so sick in person
Man the RF is one of the best looking cars on sale overall right now imo
@@jull444 especially from the rear with those real muscular fenders. Definitely evolved very nicely over the years
these new miatas look so clean in person it catches me off guard
I watch a bunch of these and I'm always at awe how fluent and smooth he is at describing such a wide variety of vehicles.
I'm not the only one noticing the guy hiding his face at 7:49 right?!!? LOL
I bought a 1990 Miata in the late 90s, when the price became affordable to me. Drove it for five years. I've never loved another car the way I loved that Miata!
Your legs are scrunched up and touching the steering column at six even. I’m six one so I can forget about it. Great review anyway.
I'll be that guy and say it... If Mazda put a turbo in this thing, it would break the car scene.
The Miata taught me so much about driving. I switched from a GTI and never regretted it. Yes, it’s less practical, but it’s the kind of car you can’t ever be mad at. Puts a smile on my face every time
enjoy being single homie. your opposite equals arent worth the sacrifice for it we both know
@@gibbleway be real its 2023 women aint shit my boy smash n dash not worth the time and money
Interesting. I am considering Supra or Z4 simply because Miata feels just too small. Your opinion matters.
Adam Klingenberger? How weird to come here and see your comment at the top. I just bought a 2022 Miata with 1700 miles on it yesterday. I love it.
I’m about to do the same with my Jetta, only thing holding me back is the trunk space, I live alone tho so how many groceries do I really need
Guys… I finally took one for a test drive and absolutely fell in love with it. Currently fighting the scumbag dealers about their garbage fees and markups.
Due to supply issues, the dealers got us by the cajones these days with their dealer mark ups, etc. Basically, every vehicle has gone up $10K in the past year.
The MX-5 is one of my favorite sports cars
Loved my 92 base model back in the day. The only "tech" it had was power breaks and an air bag. No power steering, no power windows or locks. Nothin'. Just a pure sports car! One of my all time faves.
Another nice review, Raiti. The Miata is a great car for people who understand traditional sports cars and get that magazine statistics aren't what makes something engaging to drive. If you're worried about fitting, you should still try it. I'm 6'1" and fit fine. Note that the BBR (wheels, brakes, seats) package is an *option* on the Club and Clubs also do not have adaptive headlights. Clubs are also special order only and are long sold-out for 2022.
Keep up the good work!
Always loved the Miata, it’s a timeless design..Mazda doesn’t need to change a thing, and that’s pretty much throughout their whole line up.
Regardless of which body style you go with the Miata is one of the most fun cars you can get. I love my fully loaded 2007 Grand Touring and it only costed me $9400 a little over a year ago. More fun than my $45k 2021 Charger Scat Pack I had about 6 months before the Miata. A lot cheaper in every way also
I prefer my Miata to my old BMW Z4!
scat 🤔
I owned my first car (Studebaker) in about 1958. I leased a Miata in 1997 and drove it for 3 years. It was my only car that was actually fun to drive. I would still like to have one at age 84.
Mazda's next gen infotainment system & high resolution backup camera first debuted on the current Mazda3/CX-30 in 2019. It should be in the flagship sports car 3 years later.
This is so very true Steven!
For sure a fun little car to drive 😎👍. Seats look very comfy
They really are Tom.
The little Mazda is worth the money these are great sports car.
I totally agree with you Ramon!
I've always loved the MX-5 Miata. I think it's the best sports car value in existence today. Personally, I'd skip the Club and go for the GT manual soft top. All you're giving up is the Ricaro/Brembo/BBS option package for an extra $4500, which I don't really care about anyway. You still get the LSD on the GT, as well as navigation, automatic climate control and a few other bits that you can't get at all on the Club. For around $34000, the GT soft top is the way to go.
For almost 40k OTD and not even 200hp...thats unacceptable..I don't care about the light weight..you can get a lot more for 40k...its still an iconic car esp in the 90s.. I would go with the Toyota 86.
@@motorcycleartist then youre paying more than 40k cause of markup including the problems people been having with the engine failing due to a gasket. The miata is a hell of a bargin in this age, its always has been, thats the point.
@@Pinkarmada01 I'll stick to riding motorcycles.
@@motorcycleartist well you can get a Club for 31k or the GT for 32.5k if at msrp. And the GR86 is about as quick, I think, as the miata. Different tastes for different people. I just like driving with the top down, so miata for me I guess
@@motorcycleartist That's so expensive. I'll stick to walking, cheaper and healthier.
One more time Joe hit the nail in the head . The Miata mx5 experience it is not about going just fast , it is about going swiftly , it is so much fun just to drive it and to hear the engine , and I only had a 1997 mx5 m-edition , not fast at all , but so much fun . Thanks Joe for such a detailed & true real review as usual . Best car reviewer in RUclips by far !!!!
Mazda, Mazda oooooooooh Mazda! Miata Is Always The Answer! This thing is good to go Joe! Please please please load this lil rocket on the expedited Massachusetts bound transporter! Thank you very much! These reviews are spot on! Maximum respect to you and Lori and Steven for bringing us this Miata here!
I recently bought a 1990 NA Miata a few weeks ago, and I’ve never had so much fun with a car before. Highly recommend! Learned how to drive stick rly well in just a few days! These things are literal go karts!
Love my 1990 also, give me winding roads any day.
Only hills deprive you of any speed.
The fun factor never goes away.
NA with the pop ups all the way my friend! On my 2nd here in Australia, will keep it until I drop.
The club has LED headlights but do not swivel, only the Grand Touring trim has the LED "adaptive" lighting that turns when you turn.
Thanks for that great info Mike!
Is this really true? So this is a bad video? I'm currently looking to buy a little sports car.
@@ronaldlanman6585 it's not a bad video it was just an error about the headlights. They are still LED headlights. They just don't swivel when you turn the steering wheel.
I have this exact spec but shocks, springs, and sways are necessary to turn it into a real weapon. Exhaust needs to be upgraded also. Goodwin Racing is your friend.
🇺🇸 My dream car! Not the fastest, not the most powerful.... just the BIGGEST SMILE! Candy red.
You got that right!
Not the fastest or most power but also more reliable, more affordable and more efficient than anything else comparable.
Better get one soon not many manual cars left.
i got the 6-AT and it was the most amazing car ive ever driven. sadly im over 6ft and couldnt get comfortable in the seats...
I understand where you are coming from Mike!
I could see Joe doing a baker's dozen donuts in this car.
You better believe it David!
7:49 bro covering his face 😂
THAT IS FREAKING HILARIOUS
Always had a sweet spot for miatas. There are fun zippy little cars. You did right joe got a manual!
Thanks Matt! You are so very right!
LOVE FROM FLORIDA JOE AND LORI, love your local videos ❤️
Thanks my friend!
I’m dead (w your narration)! That “Canseco” line? Omg!
miatas biggest weakness is the lame colors.
*I heard these come with a pack of tampons in the center console, is that true?*
i don’t doubt it, this car is girlier than jojo siwa
Interesting...
Mazda needs to either redesign the RX-8, or just name it RX-9, even though it may not be a rotary engine.
Always a blast to drive I love the Mx 5
You have good taste James!
What a good small car. I wonder how great the gas mileage is for it. Also the color looks great as well.
About 30 mpg I believe

Love these Miatas, but one zonk is that I am way too big for it!
I feel you on that one.
Same here, being 6ft. 3in. and 300 lbs. has disadvantages, lol
Just test drive a base mx5 yesterday. Loved it, really is something special. Too bad I was too tall for it. 😢 a great alternative for those taller is a Boxster.
Or a low mileage NC. 6'5" here.
@@markdebruce1843 what’s a NC?
@@randomhobbyist99 The previous generation Miata, ending with 2015 model year. The 2016 plus is the ND.
@@Mudflap1974 ahh okay! Thanks for the info!
I once owned a tricked-out Miata and can testify that the Miata is a wonderful, affordable sports car. But the era of fun-to-drive cars is about over. The vast majority of vehicles these days are boring SUVs and electric cars. Soon, no one will even need a driver's license because all vehicles will drive themselves.
Must be an “old guy” thing… I tried a Miata several years ago before falling for a Mustang GT ‘vert. I just remember having a smile plastered on my face the whole time I was test driving it. So much fun. Sticks to the road like glue and as close to a go-cart as you’re likely to get without actually getting a go-cart.
Used miata is the way to go. Save your money. I got a 2002 special edition for $4k in pristine condition. Then upgraded to a used 2016GT for $16,000. Never had issues, great gas mileage. Great vehicle...just save your money and get used, especially in today's economy.
It's just one of those cars that until you drive, just looks like a cute little baby wannabe racecar. Those of us fortunate enough to drive one (or, if you waited 4 months for a Soul Red Club like I did and ordered one) you know this is one of the greatest remaining sports cars out there. Great review, as always, Joe.
One thing I caught, however, is that the Club does not have adaptive lighting. They are LED, but they don't move.
Great looking car BUT that antenna is a deal breaker - makes it look like an RC car.
Still looks fresh today. Might be a timeless design.
I got to test drive one at the LA Auto Show a few years ago and was shocked by how much more comfortable I was in it compared to a corvette. I’m the same height at 6 feet. Not sure how that made sense, but I really enjoyed the drive
Once your go Miata you don’t go back. Light weight is awesome , traded both Mustangs and SI
This is so very true!
Lmao. Why you got to bring Canseco into it not once but twice. I love it!
We need bloopers there is no way Camera Man or Girl doesn’t laugh with these!! Lol
Amazing that the 2.0NA in the Miata has the same HP as the VW Tiguan with the 2.0T. Would buy one, except it needs more leg room for me.
Like Joe said, it's about the "driving engagement", that's the difference, even tho the Tiguan is more "capable"
In my opinion, if they turbo charged this and gave it at least 230hp or gave this car a special track edition I think it would be perfect!
I know right!
@@BinisGunsAndGames They really should, but seems like it is never going to happen.
Why is a Tiguan even in this discussion?
I literally tried to buy one, ready to pay, but ZERO 2022s on the lot, and the order banks were closed . . . Somehow ended up with a 22 Supra instead lol!
I have a 2021 Supra 3.0. Love the car 👍🏼
Many make fun of the Miata but they don’t appreciate light manual drop tops. I recently bought a manual Grand Touring soft top. It sits in my garage next to my 991.2 GT3 Touring and 718 Spyder manual. I can appreciate lots of different manuals.
I totally agree with you!
Hey, so have you ever gotten a speeding ticket while filming one of your shows? Just wondering. Thanks for the great, fun review!
Wonder how the Boxter compares? v Oh, can you put 2 golf bags in the trunk?
Here to watch my car
Now that is cool!
Here to wash my car
I wanted to thank you for this video I have been watching other videos of yours which have turned out great but this one really put itself out front of the pack of your videos in the next two years I will be making up my mind what a new car I'm going to buy and the Mazda Miata looks like a fun car I'm 5 foot one weigh 103 pounds and 62 years of age it would definitely be a great car to be zooming around town in thank you Joe for your time great job on your video
Thanks Philip! I am so glad that I could share my car passion with you!
Ive always love the Miatas. Its one of my goals in the future to own one for sure. Looks like a very fun small car to whip around on.
That sounds like a good plan Jay!
Only 2 hours and already more than 150 comments! Yeah baby!
Raiti cought you with the miata again, how many videos on this already, glad you love the car!
Sharing is caring Marc!
with a nice tune .. on the dyno.. can problably make some decent power
Oh I am sure about that!
Do you guys think there will be a new model for mx5 or this is the last model since all car companies are moving toward EVs?
I came here from iRacing. Really interested in owning one bc they’re so fun on the sim and I see them at race events I go to. I work from home and have a truck but I like that it’s a fun car that’s not expensive.
I think marketing underestimates the WFH audience that doesn’t want an 80k monster that’s driven 3 hours per week. A lot of us have the income but no interest. We want a fun toy not and don’t care about status or being “the best”
Most probable candidate for my last ride. Base Miata with 6 speed is all I need. And honey, if you're reading this, that ruby red would make your skin glow...
I do not think the club package has adaptive leds headlights tho
only grand touring trim does
Thanks for the input!
On throttle!!! 🚗💨💨 💨
The cup holder also also fits in the slot to the right side of the stick shift
I’d like to get one, but I have a newborn and a 2 year old. And I’m 6’1” so not sure if I would fit. It seems like the new mustang might be a better fit for me
Picked up my 2022 Grand Touring RF Miata about 3 weeks ago. I opted for the automatic this time since it is my daily driver and I'm 6'3", so I needed the extra legroom. I barely fit in it, but it is totally acceptable. While it is not quite as engaging as my previous 2021 Club with the manual obviously, it is still an absolutely fantastic, fun car to drive. I have more fun with it than the 2020 Challenger Scat Pack and 2021 Mustang GT I had, because you can actually drive it at 100% all the time, and not end up in jail. :)
Congrats and that you for sharing that!
I love mine too!
One of the best looking engine bays. I hope Mazda NEVER covers it up with plastic cladding.
Hey Joel it's convenient for it too parking in small spots 👋👍🙂♥️
You got that right Philip!

I used to own a quite spec'd out 2001 Mazda Protege and looking at this car I can tell I wouldn't regret buying this. Mazda does a really good job with ownership.
Nice looking car but 36 big ones it’s not a smart buy, seeing that you can get a camaro or challenger for less and get more power. But for enthusiast and fans of the car I couldn’t blame you
I guess it all depends on what kind of driving experience that you want.
Yeah I’m taking the Miata every day of the week. Just saw an IMSA spec Miata race at VIR and let me tell you, these things aren’t far from a full on race car
That’s true

how many subway footlongs can fit in the trunk
I rented a Miata to drive from Huntsville to Atlanta, and I was never so happy to turn a rental in. Torturous.
I'm going to guess the rental agency had the tires pumped up to 35 psi or higher. The tires should be at 29 psi....makes a ton of difference in the ride quality
is Joe related to Clancy Brown from Highlander?
Wait when does he show the trunk?
I’ve had x3 of them over the years! Great car & very reliable. Don’t have one right now - hence watching video. 😢
I’m also a serial Miata owner. Keep coming back to them.
Jose is looking for you!
Thanks for the heads up Matt!
Joe “Flyin’ Miata’” got a small block Chevy engine transplanted into Miata:)
Great cars, I love my mx5 nc, the latest nds are great.
Love that grey/blue or gunmetal dark grey color scheme with the otherwise clashing taillight design on this by lighter paint. You can tell Joe has more fun in this than faster cars for similar or different value.
"Before he went crazy on the roids." 😂😂😂
You are hilarious!
Nice review keep up the good work Joe
You got it marcus!
I actually was hoping you'd talk about this! I'm about to put a down payment on a new car, and I really want a manual soft top.
