Actually, John Lennon most definitely plugged his J160E's in! The first Album (Please Please Me) was mostly played with John and George's plugged in! Not to mention 'I Feel Fine' was played with John's plugged in...

You could well be right. Although there is evidence to the contrary. Heres a link www.reddit.com/r/beatles/comments/fo9q8k/how_did_john_lennon_record_his_j160e/ You will find with some more digging that later on he would only mic his guitar. The Gibson/Epiphone J160E was renowned for being a very flat sounding guitar designed to be plugged in but even then it was never a great sounding guitar which is why they also used electric guitar strings on the J160E both John and George. Lots of opinions out there though so thanks for your comment.

@@thesmartway693 There is no question that they used these plugged on during most of the Please Please Me Album. And he most noticeably used his '64 plugged in on 'I Feel Fine'.

@@thesmartway693 Btw, They didn't have Epiphone J160Es back then.... Lol Gibson made them. Also, the reason electric strings were used on these was because these have a P90 pickup which won't work with bronze strings. The originals also had plywood tops to help prevent feedback which didn't completely stop it hence the intro to 'I Feel Fine'..

@@richieluckenbill1590 Yes my error there as i was reading up about the Epiphone models that suffer the same issues. You are correct but the tones achieved on the songs you have mentioned are electric kind of tones not acoustic. You can clearly see in the picture that when these were used for acoustic songs they were not plugged in. My point in the video is the same that when plugged in they lose the acoustic sound and are better mic'd up. Although i must add that even the electric tones of the pick up on the Chibson isnt any good and i have read that the original pickups were not great either.

Check the connections from the pick up. Are there any loose wires and if you remember from my video there was a ground lead connected to the ball of my high e string so make sure you have not lost that if you have changed strings. Dare i say is it turned up ?

@@Fiumo depends where its from. There is a ground wire that threads throw the ball of the high e string. See my video. If it's another wire and you are not confident then best you take it to a luthier or guitar shop.
