      you notice how with all of these vids, they dont show the underside. the weld through. thats because its non existant. this is such a superficial welding technique. it basically offers no strenght.

      @@sollitdude1 it's not actually the case, it looks so gentle welding, it gives the impression of no penetration, but there is excellent penetration with laser welding. It will take some getting used to.

    The wire melt faster than the size of the gap. I mean in the gap stay to long in liquid form the melted metal(wire). Probably a bit ticker wire or faster feed rate or even wider laser beam would doing amazing job. They using laser in car factory and everywhere nowdays, so the gap is not problem at all.

    scaring of the metal when the laser is moved at the end of a well seems to be significant. This shows how very careful a person would need to be in using a laser as it does not stop when contact is lost. You can scare your work piece ( 7:02) and this same beam could do damage across the room I would guess. Very thick gloves needed and eye protection for anyone in the room or "line of sight".

    2 things. First let's see the back side after a weld. Second do a cut and etch of a weld or 2 done with this machine. I've seen too many pretty welds fail over the years to trust this process without those 2 things.

    • @d8l835
      @d8l835 Год назад

      When using the appropriate materials/filler material its as strong as most mig/tig welds. Tensile strength is tensile strength regardless of the transfer method right? There are many more dangers that come with this process though. The laser can burn or blind you MUCH faster than a traditional mig or tig set up. It is not recommended to use this in general shops, it should only be done in enclosed areas to protect bystanders and with proper PPE. Takes less than a second to severely injure your eyes or go blind without proper eye protection

    • @DutchMechanic
      @DutchMechanic Год назад

      MIG and TIG are also very different in strength.. penetraition, inclusions, temp, etcetc all factor in the tensile strenght in the end.@@d8l835

    What size wire and feed rate are you using for the gap bridging? Thanks.

    • @loweek9646
      @loweek9646 2 года назад +3

      Depending on the gap, if your wire falls through the gap it's makes it harder to laserweld. But not impossible then you need to play with feed rate and wobble frequency. For easy closing a gap, use wire that doesn't fall through it.
      For example if the gap is 0,9 mm, you can use a 1,0 mm wire and just weld at a normal speed, if using a 0,8 mm wire you need lower the feed rate, so it fills it up. Trial and error my friend, goodluck!

    the only advantage I can see is the non electrical laser can not freeze in the workpiece . next the disadvantage is that it does not weld .. its like glue you can do things with the laser other more heat power methodes can not perform. so laserwelding is for household machinery and kitchen utensils . as far nobody is counting on strenght
