Hey Sal, these two properties are opposite ends of the scale. JAmes nails it in his review. Riu Republica is energy and party. Excellence is simply "excellence" (food, service, serenity and relaxation). There is nothing serene or relaxing about Riu Republica - it is a great party scene

That being said, I'm confused by all of this Punta Cana content. Punta Cana is the antithesis of cool. It's the Cancun of the DR. Just a place for unimaginative tourists to get canned all-inclusive vacation packages. *and I say this as a Dominican!* For example, I would MUCH rather stay at the JW Marriott Santo Domingo than at any Punta Cana cookie-cutter all inclusive resort. Again... love your channel, appreciate your work. You make the best travel videos. *Saludos, primo*
definitely gonna be asking for some Muy Fuerte bebidas when I go!🤣 ...random naughty questions ... is it possible to sneak into one of the "preferred members only" parts of a resort ? how do they check for that ? do u have a wrist band or something? also, what if you meet someone outside the resort , are you allowed to bring them back with you and let them stay on the resort with you??🤣
My wife and I are headed to Excellence PC next year. Love your reviews. How do you ask for the welcome drinks in each restaurant? Especial? Bebida especial? Bebida de beinvenida?
@@sal1702 James does a great job and is very fair in his assessment! You will find lots of videos on RUclips for Riu Pink Pool Party and Riu Jungle Pool Party and once you add this to the onsite parties it is very well done. No other resort offers anything close to the "Riu Party" experience. The Republica is a party resort with a very distinct younger vibe but you have to UNDERSTAND this: it comes with a compromise in terms of room and drink quality as well as food and dinning ambiance relative to the other 4/5 star resorts. I like the beach and the daily jerk chicken BBQ is great but the food in the 24 hours sports bar is toxic.
Spectacular review! There are other resort regions in DR (Puerto Plata and La Romana) but these areas are not on the same level of what was mentioned (Bavaro, etc).
@@Coolist For sure - it is separate. I am really interested in your Cap Cana thoughts and Mexico versus DR! Cap Canais the hot new area of the DR and it is a bit of a mystery. You have such a foundation staying at so many resorts your insight would be helpful. My guess is your whole opinion of "all-inclusive" has changed somewhat. In the early days you seemed skeptical.

James you have got to stay at the Iberostar 5 star adults only. It's more of a quiet hotel but the experience is perfect (Iberostar Grand Bavaro).

Exactly. I usually say it in English first, and then if that doesn't work I use bedida especial por aqui.

I would argue you should really have a 4 day minimum to experience the hotel fully.
Agree but James stressed this a a minimum.. I typically stay 7 nights but I did two weeks at Republica and it nearly killed me.

Most consider La romana an entirely separate area. I just listed the big three, but there are several great niche areas in punta Cana.
