    Bonnie!!! I’m so happy for you and the opportunity you and your team got from GCAL! I don’t know if you realize it, but you also are making changes in the diamond industry by showing us through social media how important it is to work with someone who knows what they’re doing when it comes to curating diamonds. Your education, enthusiasm, and passion show through your videos. I’m not surprised to see how much your socials have grown since your start. I’ve watched you since 2k subs and knew right away I want my next big purchase from you! I love all of your rings from your cushion to round and now your emerald. I can’t wait to see the surprise reveal!

    AI has its benefits, but machinery can malfunction, and programs can glitch. I think I'd rather have an experienced professional actually looking over my diamonds.

    Diamond is real but it wasn't use as jewelry ever. Diamond is expensive because of its Authority not because it is real.

  • @SellswordCC
    @SellswordCC Год назад +12

    AI should make grading cheaper, make grading less subjective. And make trying to game the system of sending stones to different labs obsolete as results will be more consistent across the board. It's interesting to see how far IGI has come in terms of consistency, their grading appears to be lockstep in many cases with GIA in two studies with dual graded stones. Not an industry guy, just a person who works in data analysis. What I think will set GIA apart then is their scientific approach to light performance grading which they implement now thanks to them buying out AGS. IGI seems to have implemented cut grading and light performance grading too. Their approach to light performance grading seems to be black box, although their cut parameters are clear. Imho though people put too much emphasis on parameters, but in the absence of an expert eye, the layman consumer puts a premium on what a paper says is "most best", thus I think why the super ideal phenomenon exists even though buying round diamond in a AGS/GIA intersecting ideal/excellent parameters will usually yield you a pretty good looking diamond in most instances. But a trained eye doesn't need to look at certs to see except to confirm. This is where I think the GIA value add to the consumer will exist, the mind clean factor, "because GIA says it's good factor" especially in fancy shapes. Because outside the internet we can't get 10 similarly cut diamonds to put next to each other and compare. IMHO GIA has to do something with their prices. They already lost a huge market share in coming late to the lab grown market. A lot of that was politics I'm sure. And if anything IGI has shown it can do a competent job in grading stones if they want to, and they do it quicker. I think they finally realized a few years ago they had to stop the whole EGL grade inflation strategy to gather more business abroad and in the US. Interesting to see what will change in the jewelry world in the future.

    • @ByBonnieJewelry
      @ByBonnieJewelry  Год назад +8

      It's shocking you say you are not in the industry. Because what you just said is very insightful! Did you hear IGI just got bought by BlackStone? I'm interested in seeing what's to come as well. GCAL and Sarine are introducing AI color & clarity grading. I think that's going to change the industry forever. You are right about people who get too hung up on the parameters. What's the "best" on paper may be beautiful in person, but that doesn't mean what not "perfect" on paper isn't beautiful!
      Thanks for stopping by! Keep watching for more :)

      @SellswordCC Thanks so much! 😊 OH I am scared to ask. 😂 What do you ride? I'm only 5'3, before I got pregnant I used to ride a CRF230M. I miss my bike everyday 😅

    • @SellswordCC
      @SellswordCC Год назад +1

      The responsibilities of parenthood. :) Probably going to have to start worrying about that myself. Ah. 250cc bikes are great, one of the best riders I knew was a female instructor on a 250cc KTM rc25. Just showed all the youngbucks how it's done. ✊ But yea I understand you should consider track riding. Fun, but controlled environment. Actually I got into it many years ago when I met an independent appraiser in the NYC diamond district, true story. Was appraising ring 1 for insurance and met this guy in his 50s who has more guts than sense. Rode, a BMW motorcycle and I started riding one too not long after. My favs are my S1000RR and my RnineT, but my garage is a bit of a mess as I'm a bit of a grease monkey with bikes in various states of repair. It's ironic as my day job has me wearing a white lab coat and business casual on most days. Maybe it's my rebellion to conformity especially as an Asian-American growing up in the 80s-90s. Thankfully, my better half is a lot more organized than I am, and hasn't made me get rid of any of it. But I'm sure as time goes on I'll have to make room for kids toys and the like which I'm okay with 🥳. By the way, off topic remember seeing that video you made about the Asian Scandinavian woman and her reason for choosing a diamond that was proportionate to her peers where she lived. That is true about diamond perceptions outside the US. Funny story is my wife is an Asian gal from a Chinese diaspora who was born abroad and initially felt a bit uncomfortable when visiting home due to diamond size. Not saying that to toot my own horn but, I wish I knew as it could have probably saved me a little bit of money 😅, but then again in my guy ignorance, it's kind of the things you don't really consider.

    • @ByBonnieJewelry
      @ByBonnieJewelry  Год назад +2

      So glad you liked it! In order to get a high quality lab diamond, I would recommend you work with someone who knows lab grown very well and has experience in filtering out lab diamonds that have major secondary color like Grey, brown, blue tints that are common. Also something that's very fiery and has lots of brilliance. But I would say the most important part is actually the craftsmanship of the ring, that's how the beauty of the diamond will be shown! Most of my videos talk about that a lot, make sure you watch them all :)

    Or GIA could just get Serine. But either ways, this isn’t going to change how diamond cost. Jewelers will always charge expensive for good diamonds because they’re going to make more people if they can. It doesn’t affect the price that consumer pays, but I guess now it’s more accurate. Serine grading is base on GIA standard.

    I made that mistake, I sent my fiance to one company like that, (which in fact is a walk in store), trying to avoid the online purchase issues, but at the end, the experience was same bad, or even worse. When the product came, it was bad and when I asked for better quality, and better service, it resulted that I was asking for too much, and I was even judged! They tried to make me feel like a shallow person, because I cared more about the diamond quality than about my finance. Literally... When I found Bonnie, it was too late because they didn't accept to make the refund.
    We spent $10 000 +. And we were expecting something better. The purchase is still in process because I still dont like my ring and since they don't want to make a refund, I have to keep asking for better... they dont want to refund so they better do better, I'm not gonna just accept whatever they want to give me. It's a long story but yeah, one day I will be able to get a Bonnie's ring. I still don't have my weeding band though, im thinking about getting it with Bonnie

    Bonnie, I have two questions for you. The first is, when you use AI, does the machine have to be calibrated? That would introduce trust issues. The second is, since lab diamonds are created, why can’t they be perfect? I don’t understand how a diamond wouldn’t be of the highest quality if it is man made?

    • @ByBonnieJewelry
      @ByBonnieJewelry  Год назад +2

      Hi dear! I'll raise this question to Sarine! And lab grown technology is improving, but it's not there yet where all stones are D Flawless 😅

    I bought a 3ct 8x round a few month ago. Didn’t know what GCAL was but the moment I look at the certificate, i was sold. The amount of information is non comparable. GIA or IGI doesn’t say much of a stones light performance. AGS does but options for AGS stone is much less. I am enjoying my diamond as 8x is crème de la crème. I think GCAL will force the competition to step up their game to grade light performance. Above all light performance is probably the most important aspect of a diamond.

(CVD GROWN)but here’s where the story gets crazy, I took it into a jewelry store to have it cleaned, and they tested it with a diamond/moissanite tester, and said it came up as moissanite! I freaked out and called GCAL who insured me that this is normal and I do in fact have a real LAB Grown Diamond. They told me you’d be posting information on this.
