    I now know more about wire crimping than I ever expected to. Thanks!

    I think too many people underestimate the power of a crimped connection and just assume soldering is always best.

      For a long-term connection that is to resist oxidation over time, or is to be used in a harsh environment, I would prefer soldering, or soldering the crimped connection.

      dialetric grease will help with oxidation. Flux from the solder will just cause more of it.

      @@eurobum2012 flux does not cause oxidation, its specifically to prevent it during soldering, you think that effect ends after and goes the opposite way? Rosin ACTIVATORS cause the surface of the copper to form copper abietate, which can be confused for oxidation by non-metallurgists. Oxygen cannot penetrate rosin.

      @@snap-off5383 under perfect conditions maybe. Add heat or moisture and all bets are off.

    Do the applicator log sheets give the maximum conductivity spec as well as the crimp design range? I could see this as being very useful in the case where conductivity is critical to the application.

    The wire going to the blue ring at 0:15 was not stripped properly lol

      Also: 3:59 ¨The area increases proportionally with the diameter¨
      False, it increases exponentially ;)

      @@STARDRIVE Also wrong, it increases quadratically

    • @STARDRIVE
      @STARDRIVE 2 года назад

      @@fernandoyamaguchi Last time I checked, quadratically means the exponent is two. So I guess we are both right.

    • @fernandoyamaguchi
      @fernandoyamaguchi 2 года назад +1

      @@STARDRIVE I don’t think so, exponential means that the independent variable is the exponent, 2^x is an exponential function, X^2 is a polynomial function of second order, or quadratical function.

    If the CMA is mm2, why are the calipers set to inches?

    • @chrisdonnell7200
      @chrisdonnell7200 2 года назад

      Interestingly enough, both inches and millimeters are units of length. So a diameter measured in inches still translates into a mm^2 cros section

      Actually, “circular mils” refers to thousandths (“mils”) of an inch - it is a very confusing unit….

      The Navy Diver is not a fighting man, he is a salvage expert. If it is lost underwater, he finds it. If it's sunk, he brings it up. If it's in the way, he moves it. If he's lucky, he will die young, 200 feet beneath the waves, for that is the closest he'll ever get to being a hero.
      A Chief Petty Officer shall not drink. However, if he should drink he shall not get drunk. If he should get drunk, he shall not stagger. And if he should stagger, he shall not fall. And if he should fall, he will fall in such a manner as to cover up his rank so that passerbyers will think he is an officer.
