  • Years ago, I wrote out a garden manifesto, and one of the elements of it states: don’t let your plants, boss you! Don’t let them get overgrown, buggy, thuggish, poorly defined, or dead lol. In other words, intervene, and don’t let them get the upper hand! #gardenobsessed #gardeningtools #workinginthegarden #summergardening

When getting back from a trip, I immediately jump out of the car and start watering, pruning and weeding even before going in the house and changing clothes.

Love it-I take one section at a time and “deep clean” 😂 (weed, prune, dead-head, water) until it’s perfect…then move on to the next section. Love your channel - such an inspiration.

Like the last subscriber... I start watering the minute my feet hit the ground!... I can wait til the next day or morning to access any damage... No one takes care of our gardens like us. We know... just like our children... whos hungry.. who needs to be fed.. who needs a drink . I am just grateful a neighbor does do her best to help when I am gone. But each vacation has a least one or two casualties. Such is the life of a summer garden.

Linda, I’ve been watching your RUclips channel for years, and I seriously love every post. I am well aware that your sponsor is Southern Living plants. That being said, I’m wondering if you, Leah and Stewart could possibly do a deep dive into “on line” plant ordering? I live in a remote area of the country, Western Ky., we have big box nurseries and many, many road side flower gardens with staggering limited inventory. I find myself completely confused and anxious when purchasing on line.., is the company reliable, what is a quart size, a no. 1 a no.2? What is a 1 yr. plant vs. a 3 yr. plant.? How should a plant arrive, how does one decide to send a plant back? I do appreciate your recommendations, Southern Living plants and Color Blend are very reliable and I have ordered from them but it’s crazy out there and I have been burned on many occasions for buying plants on line without knowing what I am doing. Just a thought, there maybe many viewers in my same situation.

I cut hard before I left for vacation, and returned to blooms. Yes, lost some plants that I was babying, but probably would have lost even if I was here since the heat has showed up in earnest. I do not even look at my garden the day I return, but the next morning I began weeding. Let’s face it, here in the south, our gardens are on survival mode until fall anyways. I do have drip on everything so that gives me some peace of mind, but this last trip, a freak storm knocked out one of my outdoor spigots and caused a water leak. Thankfully, because I also have people checking on things when I am gone, it was caught early and fixed. I loved escaping the heat for a few weeks!

I am so glad that had a great time. I really wanted to go on that trip with my hubs but he is going thru cancer treatment so $ is an issue. Can't wait to hear about your trip!!!! BTW, I have always saved my big black plant containers since the first time you mentioned keeping them. I also top dress all my pots with Gravel to deter those pesky squirrels and I have a ton of them (I live on a rural wooded acreage). They run the world here 😂.

I really have learned a lot about different kinds of plants through you and love it. I catch myself looking at some plants and thinking while they work in our area. I know there’s different zones in different areas of the United States. Have you done a video on how certain plants will work better and other areas than your area, hope that makes sense. Sending, love, prayers and kindness with a daily dose of encouragement.♥️👍🏼🌹🇺🇸🙏🏼

From watching Linda, I learned to take out or cut back the thugs. And realize, I can trim, prune, take out and replant its summer the season is not over yet...this year I started seeds again at end of June right in the sun making sure daily the starting pots are in trays of deep water. They will be ready to plant out soon. I starting using gravel it does work holds moisture and looks neat suppresses weeds. Walmart have bags of it for about $5..

I ordered the White Wedding Hydrangeas this year, but they are starting to burn in this heat. What is your favorite boxwood for containers? I bought two different “Better Boxwoods”, and I put them in pots . I’m anxious to see if they will survive the winter in the pots.
