Bring your attractor boxes with all the basics. Once you get there, go to the local fly shop for some recon, buy some flies and maybe some swag from them. They will be a big help for the specific hatches/what's working for the time and places you plan to go. That way you've gotten a little bit of the scoop - and you've supported the local business by spending money in their shop.

Wear earplugs in the shower. If you’re not supposed to drink the water there, don’t let it get in your ears either. Ear infection survivor here from a flats trip

On one hand yes, on the orher hand it is equally problematic if it gets in your nose or mouth during the shower.

Something to filter the water as well. You can’t completely trust the bottle water you buy in places like S America, so you’ll want to filter it before brushing your teeth.

If you take the backroads, you better have OnX or something to make sure you aren't trespassing on those ditches and creeks. Just because you're on vacation doesn't mean you can do whatever you want on someone else's property.

These are all good tips. Your flying tips are pretty spot on. I DO carry my rods and reels on, though. As for road travel, we rarely eat in chain restaurants. We look for the mom and pop local places. Might I include be sure to tip. Tip your bus driver who takes you from the parking lot to the airport, etc. They appreciate it, and they may give you some good local advice. Also, some below mentioned about visiting the local shop. Support them too!

Honestly, this is probably one of your best videos in the tips and tricks category. Thanks!
I make sure a spare pair of contacts and an old prescription but mostly usable glasses live in my fishing bag specifically for that scenario.

All sound advice . we travel quite a bit both nationally and internationally our last trip was international and no one spoke English, as you mentioned learn as much of the language of where your going as you can and then use a translation app and make a list of stuff you think you will probably will be asking or talking about .its very helpful for both , the app we used you can speak to it or text and the person you trying to communicate with really like it because it works both ways . Stay Hugh, and the chicken there was awesome.

Bring an empty water bottle with you when flying, you can fill it up once you get through security for free. Cash, especially USD, is king everywhere, so it's always good to have some backup hidden on you/in your stuff. Also, if you're travelling somewhere that has questionable water, bring some sort of backup water filtration system as a just in case.

We all “pack our fears”. I hate being cold, so wooly, downy, and wind stopper shells are my over pack.

My inner nerd believes in a packing list. Make one and double check it. It's redundant, but it gives me peace of mind and allows my OCD to run free 🤷‍♂. Also, I ALWAYS bring waaaaaaayyyyyy too much underwear 😂

I bring a rod with me when I fly for work 3-4 times a year. I actually put my flies and hardware in a checked back and carry on my rod and reel. I try to get a window seat so I can just wedge the rod tube between me and the wall, but I also always ask if the flight crew would mind putting it in the cabin closet at the front, sometimes they will sometimes they won’t, just depends.

Always bring food and water, maybe some snacks, and food. And of course water, maybe a coffee maker which will need water.

Took my 4 piece 5 weight to Mexico. Rod and fly box as carry on. No problem flying from Canada. Mexican security would not allow flies in carry-on for the return trip. For road trip, love having pizza in the truck so I don't need to cook anything on the first night. Game-changer has been bringing the plug-in, thermos-container coffee-maker to keep in the outdoor cooking centre next to our very small pop-up camper. I keep a small lending-library of books and magazines in the camper: Haig-Brown, Art Lingren, Jack Shaw, Fly-Fusion (BC-based). It's cold again up here and I'm itching for the trip to VanIsle in three weeks to get the line wet
