I have a new Canon 80D and am so excited about all it can do.. I haven't a clue where to start but THIS video is freaking fantastic Amanda!! I will need to watch it like 30 times and I should be good to go! Thank you!! Do you have any videos on great editing programs?? Davinci Resolve..etc.. Tutorials?? You are so good at this..
This is the most helpful video I've found when it comes to learning about my Canon 80d. Thank you so much! You explain things so clearly and in a way that's easy to understand 🙂 I was getting ready to sell this camera without really trying to use it because it was intimidating. Now I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos, so that I can learn more! I can't wait to start capturing special moments in life and documenting my families journey. Thanks again 😁❤
Thanks for explaining this, Amanda! I don't know what's going on when it comes to cameras, but you break it down in a clear way that's easy to understand! Cheers!
THE VIDEO IS ALMOST A YEAR OLD BUT STILL HELPFUL CAUSE I JUST BOUGHT MY FIRST CAMERA ITS A CANON 80D AND SHE COVERED EVERYTHING....THANKS AMANDA I ENJOYED THIS VIDEO
I plan on using my canon 80d to where I can kinda just pick it up and go, I do manual with auto iso , auto white balance, etc what do you think would be a good in camera picture profile to use for vlogging because idk how to download any from online any ideas for what I should use? Auto, faithful?
I would need to play it with a bit more. I would do a test on several profiles and see which you like best right out of the camera. Wish I had a better answer for this one, but I don't want to tell you something and lead you wrong on this one!
I don’t see the bell and were you talking about the 34mm lens on an 80D for video? I have a canon 24-70 f/2.8 lens and it seemed to be stuck on f/5.6 Randal
What an awesome video! Great tips! I’m a behind and I’m studying filmmaking. In class everything sounds so confusing! But I just set my camera thanks to your help! Please keep up with the great work! It helps me a lot!
I got so excited when I saw this, I have a brand new camera (which I thought was the 80D), its not, its the rebel 7i. (Tells you how long its been)! Thanks for this, I shared to a blogging group I know. Thanks for all the information you freely provide.
Just got this camera... excellent review! Definitely still trying to figure it out and have the same rode go mic that you do... how well did it work out for shooting video with that mic for you? Still playing with settings but have been getting annoying white noise with the mic. Thanks!
Are you able to expand how large a video file is before it clips? Typically when recording the 80D auto-breaks the clips every 5 minutes and I was hoping to have it keep recording and only have 1 clip per shoot.
Thanks so much! Love your channel. Im looking at making short docco's and interviews. Which microphone would you suggest most appropriate for best quality sound please? Lav or shot gun? Thanks!
The 18-135 is an excellent lens! No need to replace it. It is the only Canon zoom with a 7:1 zoom ratio. I shoot a lot of music in dark night clubs and have like 800 videos up on RUclips many of which were shot with this lens. The picture quality is still excellent at ISO 1600 and I have shot many at 3200. Do not be afraid of shooting at a high ISO! I have the Canon 70-200 f2.8 and it is great but the zoom range is only 3:1. If I had to choose only one lens it would be the 18-135. Just set it at f4 in low light situations. It is the best run and gun lens out there. If you really need a fast lens, buy the 24mm and 50mm primes but you will need to move the camera or subject to get proper framing. If you are shooting an interview and use a couple of lights, ISO400 will be perfectly fine. No one would ever see the difference between 100 and 400. This is the first time I have ever heard anyone diss this lens. I am shooting a concert outdoors in two days in the evening and will be using two 80Ds both with the 18-135. Plus, there is a wonderful power zoom attachment that fits on the bottom of the lens. Made by Canon and only $200. It has two speeds and you can feather it in and out so you can look like a pro! Nuff said. Happy shooting!
You're welcome! Definitely watch my quickstart guide to video if you haven't yet. It'll reeeaally help you lay the groundwork for video! www.amandahorvath.site/quickstart
I do it in most of my videos : ) That way the color doesn't change halfway through recording. If I'm vlogging or shooting b-roll then I usually just keep it on auto.
I’m in the creator studio app so I can’t see which video this comment is on right now but ALL the tips for the canon rebel video would apply to your camera 100%!!
Hi Amanda. I have recently bought an 80D and am in the middle of setup up a video system and want to use it as my camera. I tested it with FB Messenger and noticed the shotgun mic doesn't work for live audio so Ive used a lav mic. Does the shotgun mic on the camera only record audio to the SD card when recording not using Live? Hope that makes sense. Hoping maybe it's just a setting I having figured out.
It should DEF work for a live video too. Are you plugged directly into your computer? You may need to set the settings to use the camera audio. BTW I'm doing a free live training next week that you should totally come to! The canon 80d is the mid tier cam I always recommend and I'm laying out a video strategy in this training to help you double your biz in 2021. You'll love it! amandahorvath.site/register
@@AmandaHorvath Awesome...I'm in! I'll register :-). As far as the mic/camera streaming...I have the shotgun mic on top of the 80D, and plugged in to the mic jack on the camera. I then have a mini HDMI to HDMI cable from the camera going into a USB capture card that is plugged in to the USB on the computer...The mic works as I tested it by recording to the SD card on the camera and then playing back. I looked at the settings in the camera but nothing looks out of sort.
Hmmmm I'm stumped too. Hit me up on IG @ahvisions This is what I did to get audio to my camera and what a lot of others do. It should work. I really think you just need to update the preferences within the app you're using on the COMPUTER. Like zoom audio preferences kind of thing but for whatever software you're using
@@AmandaHorvath OK thanks for looking in to it. I'm thinking that maybe the capture card doesn't allow audio, just video from my Camera. I'll keep tinkering though.
I have a Canon 80D and am just learning how to use it. I noticed you recommend having your shutter speed at 50 when shooting at 24 fps. However, my shutter speed goes from 30 to 45 to 60 and does not have a 50 option. How do I change this?
Hey! I only just saw this. How'd the filming go? If you want the full step by step for shooting videos (using the canon 90d) I def recommend checking out my online course! Can the Canon 80D shoot video in 1080i? I cannot find that option in the menus.
1080i vs 1080p? I don't think so but why would you want to shoot in i?

Oh yea, and thank you for posting this. I learned so much about all those crazy settings.
I just subscribe because you are cute, well and you are super smart haha
why are you so cute? hahaha
Why if people are beginners, would people want to remove all the automatic settings for video..
It's because you don't want something to change mid way through the shoot and now your shot looks super different from take to take when editing.
