It's not easy to spend your days outdoors watching for something that most likely isn't going to be there. Wet, cold and inevitable possibility of explosive violence. This night the ranger had a proper bed to sleep in. I love how you could briefly see him go through the same emotions we all feel when we wake up to go to work or wherever we have to be. This is a man of high birth yet for a passing moment he toys with the idea of just staying in the bed. Then he forces himself up to carry on the good work of being the guardian of the free folk who don't even know they are being kept safe by him.
I'm really happy that that came across to you, that is exactly the story I was trying to tell. And hopefully that sort of wistful happiness and sadness as he watches the shire, but can't enjoy its comforts, but knows the people there are safe. Seriously, thank you for this comment, as an actor and now a video maker, it means I did something right. Cheers!
This is really well done! Thank you! One of my favorite passages in the Fellowship of the Ring book is the speech Aragorn gives at the Council of Elrond regarding how he and his kinfolk are seen as untrustworthy or contemptible by people whom they protect, and who would faint if they were aware of the dangers that were outside of their homes from which the Dunedain protect them. George Orwell had a similar, but more succinct, quote: "We sleep safe in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence against those who would do us harm." True. Thank you to all the men and women of law-enforcement!
Mine too! "If simple folk are free from care and fear, simple they will be, and we must be secret to keep them so." Such a powerful speech. And very much like the concerning hobbits section at the beginning of the book. How they became sheltered in the shire, and forgot the trials it took for them to become as comfortable as they are. "And yet, we would have it so."
@@LivingAnachronism yes! what is really impressive is how the Dúnedain spent 1047 years (Third Age 3021 - 1974 Fall of Arnor) continuing to protect the people while living in the wilderness. One would think that would get pretty tiresome after a few generations, and then give up. One might alternatively think that they might become corrupted like most Númenoreans did. The lore channel “in deep geek” has a video called “why wasn’t Aragorn already king?“ which I found very interesting.
We finally dropped down into the 40s last night, and it's feeling crisp and breezy today. This short hits at exactly the right time. It's adventurin' time!

Well done. I also had a thought on the experimental leather piece with many different products. it doesn't actually need to be a costume piece. It could literally be a leather apron.

@@LivingAnachronism That pleases me in ways I simply cannot express to you, Kramer. And I'm so glad it's not in the final cut. Because the published version was perfect. From gearing up, to enjoying the pipe, to bedding down. Thank you so much for sharing. (Though I do love knowing the "bloopers".)
Dude, you have a great singing voice!! This was such a nice relaxing video, and I honestly got a bit of nostalgia watching you put on each of those items because a lot of them you made yourself, just like a Ranger would, and I could feel all the time and effort you put into them. I think you could totally make a mini-series with this if you wanted. Thanks as always!

This video makes me think of my wooden chest back home, in my parents house. Old belts, pouches with aluminium coins of the soviet era. Metal rods and blade like pieces for sword. Things i gathered troughout my childhood, hunting orcs with my brothers in the laughably narrow and small forest next to the fields. Watching your work and watching this short film reminded me my childhood passion, how to love something with meaning. Thank you Kramer! Aragorn to Eowyn: There are few of us left. The Northern Kingdom was destroyed long ago.

Very well done. I know its probably very difficult to write 4 minutes of dialogue, but i think the dressing scene would benefit from the character reading a letter he wrote to other Dunedian or someone. He could be discussing the progress of his patrol in a "captains log" kind of way. I really liked it. Great work.
That's a good idea! I actually wanted to experiment with just having a very ambient style this time, but I'll definitely keep these suggestions in mind for future videos that have a scene like that. Cheers!

My plan is for there to be future parts to this story, and I'd really like to get some sword fights in there, one way or another. There will be more, eventually!
So well done!!! I need a full length movie now please. I really liked how you portrayed in the beginning you were just a man, and then by the end of the suit up you were the protector of the innocent (the Shire). It was really heartfelt and moving to say the least! and the shots of nature and all things modern man has forgotten or longs for hits just the right spot. Wonderful job!! Can't wait to see more videos from you no matter what the content.
Thank you Lady Baccia! The plan is to continue this story in parts as I finish them, and become more capable. And then ultimately compile the whole thing into one long video, probably with reshoots so it all has the same production value as I will hopefully be capable of in the future.
Mo chara, you have a great channel and I look forward to every new video. In my youth in 1981, I traveled the country with a group of Wiccan, Hippy, Gypsies who went from ren-faire to ren-faire acting, camping and living as carefree a lifestyle as we could. It was a lot of fun, and I learned many skills. I find myself missing those days immensely. Enjoy this time. Too soon, life will invariably arise to pull you in other directions.
That Dunedain ranger seems to be very concerned about its hair :D Nice work Kramer, it was very calming and satisfying watching this ranger getting ready for another day in the wild. And the singing at the end of a long day made it perfect and brought instant lotr feeling to me!
I am glad! The singing seemed appropriate given all the songs Tolkien wrote. Happy you found it calming, that was my goal, to create a sort of ambiance for the first bit
Ok had to watch it a 2nd time. I think I might turn the leather vest I made the BF into the leather tunic you have. Yeah gonna have to watch it again and maybe pause it and sketch things out. Also where did you get the knitted wrist covers you put on before the bracers? Those look useful. Basically since I started watching you I have been cleaning out my Grandma's house. Collecting and organizing everything I could possible use in projects of all varieties. Sewing is the major one. In the, "Buy Nothing" group was a table and chairs that are bar height that I grabbed and rearranged my living room to fit it for my base work area. 2 weeks ago I pinched a nerve in my neck and my hands go numb and hurt so waiting while I fix that to restart my garb making adventures.
I hope you feel better soon Marie! If it helps the leather vest just has 4 rectangles sewn on the bottom, two in front, two in back, and then they split at the sides and front and back to act as vents. And then the whole thing is lined with linen inside. The knitted fingerless gloves, I got from a local vendor at a pop up ren fair at a local brewery. They're essentially just knitted tubes with a thumb hole. I've found that they can get very easily caught in branches, bark, and arrows.
@@LivingAnachronism o good to know! And I hope to feel better soon. Most of the time now my right hand is ok except when I first wake up. Buts it's all the time with the left. Thank you again, for being you and sharing it with us!
Very good, a nice display of your kit. The montage shots were well done. I liked the framing of them, especially at 5:40. It needs some work however, the gear up shots felt flat. Some interesting angles would've helped, with propper framing. "Strive to make every frame a poster" is what my instructor said. All in all, it's a good short.
That's really good advice, thank you. It's a bit harder when I'm also working in a set the means I can only film from certain angles or else outlets or things end up in the shot, but I definitely want to improve with each video like this I do! Thank you!
You have a very nice singing voice. I also liked the sound effects in the first half of the video. There wasn't a bunch of sound or dialogue but when you focused on the sounds of opening the box, picking up the clothing, the lacing and strapping, etc, it made that segment interesting.
I love this stuff :D Especially great for showing my DnD players how long does it take to wake up, gear up and get ready for combat in medieval settings! Good singing! Thank you!
Wonderful. We need a series made by you and other real Tolkien fans about the Dunedain rangers. They are a source of endless fascination for me. Although I love the PJ movies, I think we were robbed when he didn't get to see Elladan and Elrohir among the rangers, and fighting with Aragorn.
I love that you went with guardian of the Shire! That reveal in the books is so profound and so understated! You put so much work into this video---well done! Sorry I haven't kept up with the channel, lately. I have been busy from before dawn 'til long past disk, if late.. But rest assured, this is my favorite channel and I will continually come back to it!
My friend, such a beautiful video as a whole. The latter half especially, once you stepped out of the inn, was a glorious experience. Well shot, lovely locations, the music was great. The entire show felt like a long, lingering journey, as you intended. Your last scene was moving. Sitting with the pipe, singing a song that obviously meant more than we can know. And your singing voice was *shakes her head smiling* buttery. My only hopefully polite advice is to maybe make the suit-up sequence a bit tighter, if you had someone else with you to help you film it (it felt to me like you were being forced to use static cams because you were the only one there?). Maybe show yourself taking out the equipment, showcase it, move it as if starting to put it on then slap to a closeup of cinching it into place on your person, repeat with every common article except maybe the boots, cloak, and weapons. Just a suggestion. I understand this was a tribute (happy anniversary by the way! It's been a pleasure being with you on the journey, you're a lovely person), and the pace you chose works great for us kindred folk... but for film and youtube, yeah. I mean no offense at all. This has been a pleasure, and I greatly thank you for sharing it, as with ALL of your projects and discussions. You're a treasure, as is this community. Here's to more years together, and may we all reclaim the wandering spirit that somehow manages to lead us home.
Thank you very much Wren. No offense is taken at all! You're right the static cams are mostly because it was just me, partly because I'm filming in a space that doesn't allow for that many angles, as then I'd have light switches and other modern things in the shots. I thank you very kindly for the advice. And my goal is to eventually have a couple of these done, so I can really edit them all together properly and have a real short film. Which is a project that will probably take many months in between other videos. Thank you for all your support. Cheers!!
My goal is to be part of something like that. Or start it myself. My plan is to continue this story in future videos then re-edit them and tie them all together. I would love to collaborate with other folks and have a full cast
Stumbling into this place, knowing not its premise, nor its grace, I must say its given me quite the shake! The lonely lifts, the lost departs in haste, thank you stranger, the night will surely break.
It would be so cool if you did some kind of web series with all your skill in costuming, acting, writing, and your knowledge and humility around Tolkien's work
I guess that is sort of what I'm starting now, with videos like this, but what you suggest would be absolutely ideal one day, especially if I can get a cast, actual camera men, etc. A long term goal, but yes I agree, it would be very cool!
I wanted to thank you for your advice of getting into swords and swordplay with non-metal blades first. I invested into a pair of Calimacil foam swords and am VERY happy with them and attempting actual sword play. Thank you again for sharing your hard work and passion with us.
Man this is so good, and it's even more motivation to make my own ranger gear. Which I'll be starting tomorrow as of the time of writing this, it'll be a great adventure for sure!
This is how I imagined the Dunedaín protecting the Shire and keeping an eye out for Frodo as he left Buckland for Bree. I understand but I am forever sad we didn't get to see more Dunedaín (or the sons of Elrond for that matter) in the films, it's along my favourite sections in the novels.

Cheers!!
This is the way we start our day, start our day, in the land of far, far away.
Really nice, man 👌👍😊
I really recon some talented people could make an awesome low budget fantasy series like this.
I'd love to see more.
My goal is to be part of something like that. Or start it myself. My plan is to continue this story in future videos then re-edit them and tie them all together. I would love to collaborate with other folks and have a full cast
how charming it is🥺🤲
I’ve enjoyed your videos. This one is perfect for my brother and me. Thank you for sharing!
I'm glad, James! Thanks for watching!
Beautiful shots!
Good stuff brother.
Stumbling into this place, knowing not its premise, nor its grace, I must say its given me quite the shake! The lonely lifts, the lost departs in haste, thank you stranger, the night will surely break.
Day will come again
Beautifully made.
This is awesome! There's definitely a lot of potential for these kinds of videos.
WOw the costume looks amazing!!
Thank you!
What a wonderful short this was ^^
It’s easy to tell when someone really puts their heart into something, keep up the good work!
Thanks Rudi!
This makes me want to do a part 2 to my own ranger video! Solid work man. Loved it
This was downright pleasant to watch.
I wanted to thank you for your advice of getting into swords and swordplay with non-metal blades first. I invested into a pair of Calimacil foam swords and am VERY happy with them and attempting actual sword play. Thank you again for sharing your hard work and passion with us.
Oh I'm glad! Have fun my friend!
Bravo, well done sir.
Well made and great detail. And you’ve a nice voice too! I hope you’ll do more of these, they’re fun!
Thank you Kim! I'd like to do more of these too! And hopefully get better at making them in the process!
That was fantastic ! May i ask where you got your sword ?
It's the "Knights Bastard Sword" from Darksword armory
Tank you very much ! I love this sword design !
Outstanding job!
Thank you Neil!
Thank you for not dubbing a loud metal 'scchwingg' noise when you drew the blades.... aaaahhh.
Keep it up!

Man this is so good, and it's even more motivation to make my own ranger gear. Which I'll be starting tomorrow as of the time of writing this, it'll be a great adventure for sure!
Best of luck, my friend! It's certainly a rewarding experience
Well done lad! Very well done! Love it! :)
Thank you Siani!
Better than a 1B TV show
This is how I imagined the Dunedaín protecting the Shire and keeping an eye out for Frodo as he left Buckland for Bree. I understand but I am forever sad we didn't get to see more Dunedaín (or the sons of Elrond for that matter) in the films, it's along my favourite sections in the novels.
Fantastic work! I really love your content!
Thank you Katrina!
Dropping a fat like for Kramer's luscious locks.
Love the epic cloak flip!
I didn't know there were so many layers. My guess is warmer locations adventurers would have less layers or thin layers. Loved the video.
very nice.
Nice Kramer! I like how you incorporated those still images into your shots. 👍
Always experimenting with what I'm capable of video production wise!
*sniffle* They grow up so fast! It seems like just yesterday he was picking out a new cloak.
