When Mr. Webber made this musical into a movie, he wanted a rock star voice for Erik, and Gerry just so happened to have been in a rock band in his youth. I won't deny he has got an AWESOME VOICE!!! I've seen the movie countless times and ADORED IT every time! I think 'The Phantom of the Opera' is THE BEST LOVE TRIANGLE STORY EVER!!! I'd personally rate it 100,000 stars.
Haha, I think she did. She was saying in another interview that she and Gerard would go see concerts together and that she would cook food for him. I mean - who wouldn't have a crush? ;D
I was browsing youtube and came across this. What a hoot! I had the pleasure of working and studying with Patrick for a summer in '92. We were doing Shakespeare in France, Patrick was Hamlet and he was incredible. Everyone knew he was going to be famous someday. He is the nicest and most humble person I have ever met. the way he comes off in this interview is the way he is in real life. I'm sorry I lost touch with him over the years.
That's the problem with the movie. They turned the Phantom into some tragic Harlequin Romance antihero whose mask seems to be more of a fashion accessory than something to hide his hideousness. When he's finally unmasked at the end, he just looks like he has a bad sunburn or a chemical peel. But he's very good-looking and oozes sex appeal. The Phantom is supposed to be grotesque and frightening. He's the antagonist, not the hero. Ugh! The film was a mess!
+madilovezyooh I meant sure of herself or confident in herself, not self-absorbed. She was only 18 and is sitting with a much older cast, but she comes across as very confident and able to hold her own, which stood out to me.
at 1:17 OMG i love Gerry's sneer nod *heart beats faster* put the mask on that man when he did that and my insides will melt like butter *shudders with fear and intoxication* *holy music*
Phantom of the opera where is the single most best movie in 2004 if you were singing ability and for the last year I cannot give enough of your singing ability of Phantom of the opera specially as Christine and the Phantom of the opera was wonderful as well
Yeah Patrick went to Carnegie Mellon and had just finished his freshman year when we did that summer Shakespeare in Avignon group. He was still a kid then, but even so, his stage presence was so powerful it was scary! He hadn't found his singing voice yet and in those days he was still a baritone. At some point in the next year it all click for him and he found his upper register. In those days we used to joke about how much he looked like Paul Newman in "Cool Hand Luke".
I'm pretty sad he didn't even have a bit part in Les Mis. Now there's two major blockbusters made of his two most famous roles, and he got to be a picture in one and didn't appear in the other. Thank God for my 25th anniversary DVDs.
I can't remember, because it's been so long since I read the book. But I always assumed she was Italian, from the name and the sound of her voice. I can understand why you'd get confused, since it is set in Paris and it's been hard for me to distinguish separate accents before as well. But La Carlotta just screams "ITALIAN" to me in every nuance of her character. (I don't mean that in an offensive way at all; I'M Italian, so I know, ha ha.)
Oh I love them all. Emmy is gorgeous, and while she may Not have the best voice she still has a lovley one and she in only young any way she was a cute Christine. Patrick was funny in the movie with is wig, and he has a beautiful voice, he aces every note !! Gerry is cool I Love his accent I don't know If the role of the phantom really suited him but he did do a good job and I really like him :) as for minnie, she is just plain hilarious. Her accent and her stories ! Oh My god I love her !! :D
Oh how cool! He does seem like such a gentleman in contrast to the more (dare I say it) "overly extroverted" (although certainly not in this interview - which is suprising and refreshing) Gerard Butler. That sounds like it must have been a blast to have performed Shakespeare with Patrick. I recently found out that my cousin Jordan is attending the same college that he graduated from and every once in a while comes to give speeches there. But he never met him, as my cousin is a jazz musician.
Lol the look on his face when she said "you aren't familiar faces, but you will be after this film"...also counting the other small side jabs...damn....
And Patrick was giving lectures about musical theater and, according to my cousin, classical music. But nevertheless, he is said to be like you mentioned - humble, down to earth, funny, unpretentious, quiet, and nice. (My type of guy :D)
It bothers me that they direct so much towards Emmy when talking about the overall movie instead of all of them. I realize she is talented vocally but still.
23smell I love Patrick, but I hate Raoul. He only noticed Christine when she became famous while the Phantom always saw potential in her. Anyways Patrick did an amazing job in the Conjuring 2
In the end Barbara re-introduces the actors and their characters. She says "Gerry who you just saw as the phantom." Which clip did they show him as the phantom? They cut it out lol.
Oh, I apologize then. I did not know that. Is that in the book or ever mentioned? I've read the book, seen the musical, the movie... But I've never picked up on that, haha. Must've slipped my notice.
Emmy Rossum reminds me of the Cinderella mice u know? the ones that sing " we can do it we can do it we can help cinderelli" sth like that. When she sings she reminds me of a little mice of the Cinderella stories hahahaha
my friend actually thinks zak efron is hotter then gerald and i asked her why and she was like "oh my gosh!!! hes, like, fifty years old" and i gave her the are you kidding me face. btw how old is gerald?
If Disney had hired Emmy to be Belle for their live action it would have made it so much better. 😭
soooo true!!!!!
But belle and Christine is so much really close beauty and the beast and phantom of the opera is so much alike
They should play belle and beast but to close to the phantom and Christine
The phantom is the sexiest when he sings Point of no return.
I love The Phantom! Gerard Butler was absolutely handsome as Erik!
@@christinedaae8500 i agree, Gerard is my favourite Erik ❤❤
For real!!
Exactly
16 & pregnant? Nah, 16 & lead character of Phantom of the Opera
Christine was 16 and pregnant she had Dorothy with phantom
♥️♥️♥️
@@daynacooper1163 wait what?

Gerard: can I come over and give you a kiss?
Lady: no you can sit right there **regrets it instantly**
Haha, I think she did. She was saying in another interview that she and Gerard would go see concerts together and that she would cook food for him. I mean - who wouldn't have a crush? ;D
this is sooo true!! he even showed his emotions in his voice when he was singing.
It's stupid how the "hosts" are talking instead of letting the actors talk about the movie.
They always did that
Yeah, so rude
I was browsing youtube and came across this. What a hoot! I had the pleasure of working and studying with Patrick for a summer in '92. OMG GERRY'S VOICE IS SO DEEP! I LOVE IT!
"DESE TING DOS NOT APPEN!" Minnie Driver
And: 'I 'ATE MY 'AT!'🤣
when barb interrupts gerard he gets the most pissed look on his face hahahahaha
They're all amazing hahah. One of my most favorite movies.
My favourite movie of all time
I Love Gerard Butler as the Phantom. He's Cute.
he is cute in dracula 2000 too
I especially love him as The Phantom!
@@DiamanteDea hjvbajgjbfeb I have to watch that
Patrick isn't the heart throab of the movie, Gerard Butler is!
i agree that Gerard is the heart of the movie and not Patrick
bro yes he is, just look at the final liar scene
@@ma11233 totally😎
Gerard is the heartthrob of the movie, not Patrick imo :P
MyRomeojuliet right tho, the phantom is hot as hell

Patrick looked like a human ball sack
I love Gerry Butler! He is very handsome and sexy! I love him so much!
musicaltheatergeek79 that is quite funny because Andrew Lloyd Webber didn’t want his film to be a grotesque horror story. He wanted romance.
Emmy is SO self-assured
It's spelled self absorbed** and how? She's just answering questions like the rest of them.
+madilovezyooh I meant sure of herself or confident in herself, not self-absorbed. She was only 18 and is sitting with a much older cast, but she comes across as very confident and able to hold her own, which stood out to me.
ohhhhh okay. I see. yes I agree. I was going to say, she didn't come off as cocky what so ever
Patrick was NOT the heartthrob of the movie, Gerry was! >:C
Definitely agree.
Butler and Rossum are two of the most attractive people I've ever seen.
i watch this so many times...it never gets old
i love everything about the movie and the people in the interview. they're awesome!!!!
I love Minnie! She's so funny and beautiful! :))
Patrick's face at 5:56, lol! He looks insulted, poor dear. x'D
wow...please don't interrupt Gerard!!!! lol.
Where in the video?
she sounds like anne hathaway
Fitting since Anne was the original choice to play Christine but she couldn't because she was contractually obligated to film Princess Diaries 2.
she was only 18?! holy crap!
aquanette123 actually Emmy was 16 when they were filming the movie. In this interview she was 18
at 1:17 OMG i love Gerry's sneer nod *heart beats faster* put the mask on that man when he did that and my insides will melt like butter *shudders with fear and intoxication* *holy music*
EXACTLY ❤
The film was great, a great cast line up to. All of them so talented.
Phantom of the opera where is the single most best movie in 2004 if you were singing ability and for the last year I cannot give enough of your singing ability of Phantom of the opera specially as Christine and the Phantom of the opera was wonderful as well
Emmy was 18? Damn when I am 18 I want to be her! (Not exactly) but with two hot guys!

i loved this movie! it was great very talented singers.
3:34 lol. Let Gerard Talk the hell hahahahhaahha
ah! did you hear that little sexy growl from Gerry at 1:17! Ah! Gerry... *faints*
gerry looked SO cute while growling!
gerard butler looked pissed when barbara interrupted him
3:34
haha
i thought he would punch her...
that would've been great
For gladiator he had to have a 6 or 8 pack 😂❤
I know I totally melted when he did that! *also faints* lol
she sung the song "Learn to be Lonely". it was on the special edition soundtrack.
At first when she first spoke to minne... she said well you sang.. it beautifully.... um... she was the only that didn't actually sing...😂😅
A random human being on the internet the end credit was her song the others she lip synced somebody else named Margaret Preece
Ok I don't know why but I keep cringing when I watch this but AWESOME VIDEO!!!!!!!!
1:17 - i belong to you, Phantom!!!
LOVE YOU!!!
I'm pretty sad he didn't even have a bit part in Les Mis. Now there's two major blockbusters made of his two most famous roles, and he got to be a picture in one and didn't appear in the other. Thank God for my 25th anniversary DVDs.

LOVE THE ACCENT! ehhehehe
i hated how they interrupted gerard butler
oh well he's a bigger star than anyone else there now
SO SEXY
because at the time Ramin was only 26, making him younger than both Gerard and Patrick (who at least could sing) he is however my phav phantom!
They are my favourite Christine and phantom
god all three of them are awesome
I think she most definitely had a crush on gerard haha she always seems like happy around him
great movie
Gotta say that Patrick is really hot ;) (Gerry is also, of course!)

Anyone realized the cheers got a little louder once Gerry walked out
i love them!! this movie rox my sox
It bothers me that they direct so much towards Emmy when talking about the overall movie instead of all of them. I realize she is talented vocally but still.
Patrick Wilson should star in a movie musical...a good one. The lead.
YES. Or be cast as a Disney prince in a live-action movie. I just want to hear him sing more because his voice is so beautiful.
D**n, Gerry's fine...*ahem* sorry...Thank you for posting this!
gerard butler has such a sexy voice!!! omg i love this movie~
And Minnie! Who the DIVA!
lol when i saw phantom i immediately recognized emmy from the disney movie "genius" that was on incessantly during the early 2000's
Minnie was so cute. I love her.
Yay! They mentioned Michael Crawford! Michael Crawford is the perfect best Phantom! :)
Patrick is very good actor. And people who hate actors for some roles are just mad! It's really stupid.
23smell
I love Patrick, but I hate Raoul. He only noticed Christine when she became famous while the Phantom always saw potential in her.
Anyways Patrick did an amazing job in the Conjuring 2
the phantom over raoul.
They are my idols Emmy and gread
In the end Barbara re-introduces the actors and their characters. She says "Gerry who you just saw as the phantom." Which clip did they show him as the phantom? They cut it out lol.
I wish that this cast do this play on broadway
As far as I'm concerned, there's only one Phantom - Michael Crawford.
Emmy actually looks like Anne... when I first saw the movie, I mistook Emmy to be Anne's little sister!
At first I dint recognize Patrick.I thought he was the guy that played Raul in the Love Never Dies musical
Oh, I apologize then. I did not know that. Is that in the book or ever mentioned? I've read the book, seen the musical, the movie... But I've never picked up on that, haha. Must've slipped my notice.
Notice how all the women in the audience went balistic at the very mention on Gerard Butler
what face did gerry do on 1:41 ?? shoot i wish they showed it! emmy lookes amused haha
Sweet!
You are more than welcome.
And ya maybe you are right about passing on the kiss, maybe she didn't like him or something.
Hehe..
Thank you, I'm glad you like it.
IF I SAW THIS AND I WAS SOMEONE BY GERRY ID FAINT OR SCREAM (im a huge fan of him and i would fake faint just see his reaction 😂)
Emmy Rossum reminds me of the Cinderella mice u know? the ones that sing " we can do it we can do it we can help cinderelli" sth like that. When she sings she reminds me of a little mice of the Cinderella stories hahahaha
hmmm i don't know if emmy had a chemistry with gerry but i think she definatly doesn't have a crush on poor patrick
apparently this movie was only in select theatres. what the bloody hell for!
I'm not sure I have it. I'll try to find it and post it here.
These interviewers are lowkey.. disrespectful?
"... And Patrick, you are Raoul, you are the heartthrob of the movie..." Psh! Right...
I love how they say Raoul and not Rowl
@coPurple11ok Because Carlotta is AWESOME.
Pause and look at 4:50 LOVES ITTTT THE DIVA IS NOT THAT BAD
my friend actually thinks zak efron is hotter then gerald and i asked her why and she was like "oh my gosh!!! hes, like, fifty years old" and i gave her the are you kidding me face. btw how old is gerald?
Nicole King in this interview I believe he was 34-35
He was 34 when phantom was filmed raoul was 30 and Emmy was 16
Totally agree
Please, what disfigurement? It looked like he had a bad sunburn!
Dynamite!!!!!!
